It's everything combined.

It sounds really nice and cerebral to say "only personality matters to me" but that's just as bad as saying "who cares about personality, I want muscles". Both cases are ignoring the bigger picture.

True.

However, we're getting muscles and personality. What we're not getting (or so it seems) is height, so I'll substitute accordingly in my assertion:

Since it seems that we're not going to get both the height and characterization Bane has traditionally been portrayed with, which one would you rather have? I'd say that most people would choose characterization.

If Anne's Catwoman's costume looks even close to Halle Berry's there should be alot of complaints, and Hathaway is an ok actress.

Agreed. Same reason there are so many compaints about Bane's. He's a great actor, but it's a huge deviation from what many fans were expecting. It might work out in the end, but it's easy to understand people's woes. Hopefully Nolan & Hardy pull it off in the end, but until then, people are going to gripe. Fact of life.

That's just like saying the Joker can still capture the spirit of the character without the white face paint and red lips. Capturing the look & nailing the spirit of the character are both essential.

So then you think he should have a luchador mask and tubes running out his head too?

Can we not just get the "sulk" icon removed? It is the most tedious and contemptible of all the smilies in Christendom.

People use it quite often. Haha.

I think it'll look closer to this.

Nolan said "more tactical and less sexy". I don't think she be wearing any type of leather at all.

This is a false dilemma. If Bane was tall but he acted like B&R Bane I would complain about that. I don't see why I should choose which aspect is more important. I count on Nolan to get the characterisation right.

I dunno, that doesn't look like a traditional "sexy" Catwoman outfit. It's not that form fitting, and it doesn't show her boobs. I don't think it'll look exactly like that, but I think it'll be close to that.

See, I would argue that it's like saying that the Joker can still capture the spirit of the character without the perma-white face. There's a considerable difference.

Didn't see it. Link?

Haha. Get a good actor = have him look nothing like the character. Get a bad actor = have him look like the character but give a lousy performance.

Hmmm. Can't....quite...decide...

Okay. Fine. I'll go with the first one. lol

I count on him to get it right as well. But for some reason (maybe one having to do with the characterization we have trusted him with, perhaps?), Nolan chose to cast an actor who is missing the height aspect. Therefore, it's not present in the film (possible camera tricks and forced perspective notwithstanding). All I'm saying is that it doesn't make it "not Bane" simply because Hardy is 5'10".

To be honest though, I don't find that suit sexy at all. I do find it tactical... until we get a glimpse at that pretty face :woot:

I wish our generation could have a stab at the 60s...

It's less of a Bane. His appearance was a large part of his character which tied into his personality.

Hardy isn't the only actor in the world. There are so many great, critically acclaimed actors over six feet tall. It doesn't have to be so limited.

But camera tricks could make everything better.

I'm taking that with a grain of salt because one thing I've learned about him after several interviews this week is that he is an incredibly huge smart ass.

I guess so. Hardy is such a damn smart ass :awesome:

I really want to infract everyone that says "camera trickery" or some version of it. Just sayin... :funny:

Heh- good thing it isn't the nuclear button you have before you!

I would have probably pushed it a long, long time ago. What can I say, the world pisses me off.

You're right, his appearance does tie into his personality and serves as a great visual metaphor for the sort of threat he represents to Batman. But I think his appearance is secondary, like the Joker's skin being perma-white: it could weaken the character, depending on how he's portrayed, or it could end up not being an issue, as was the case in TDK.

Damn. I still haven't watched the film.

It's streaming on Netflix now, if you have that.

I wonder if anyone would have been bothered if Two-Face would have been a lumbering giant in TDK. Played by a good actor who totally dwarfs Bale. And if Nolan had put him in Riddler-green suit. Or would we not have minded because he acted so well.
