The Dark Knight Rises Tom Hardy as Bane XXIII

I hope we do see Bane unmasked at some point in the film. Having a mask covering half his face can limit the performance (before someone references Darth Vader, I've always thought it was the character itself rather than solely JEJ/David Prowse's performance that gave Vader his iconic status), and having the mask off will give Tom a real chance to shine. I mean, you watch The Take and all the little facial movements in that make the character so much more menacing. On the flipside, Nolan may choose to keep the mask on to play up the 'movie monster' angle of the character.

As for Bane's defeat, I really hope they don't go the easy way with Batman just breaking the mask. Easy for Batman to do? No. Easy for Nolan and Goyer to write? Very.

If he does get unmasked, we'll get some epic Hardy Evil-Goatee...

Nolan's brother's best friend's cousin just told me we won't see Bane unmasked.

Nolan's toilet brush said we would. :o

There will be a new documentary/special feature called Bane Unmasked: Psychology of The Masked Mercenary.

The Take is awesome, glad to see someone else has seen it. Hardy was phenomenal in that and after i watched it and learnt of his casting in Inception i knew he'd be the villain in the next Batman movie. Although i thought it'd be Black Mask.

But, I think Hardy can express his personality well enough with the mask on. Even in the prologue he displays a lot just in his eyes. And in the footage we've seen his body language is really good. Like the part where he struts down those steps, oozing with confidence.

I distinctly remember the parts where he goes to his old friends house, and is acting all polite and friendly... then just turns and sticks his head through the TV!

Also that part where he glassed his "boss" in the neck in the bar.

Nasty piece of work was Freddie.

If he does get unmasked, we'll get some epic Hardy Evil-Goatee...

He had a mo-hawk almost the entire time he was in Pittsburgh, sadly I think he was just ****ing around.

The whole 'all I want to know is... where are you from?' 'Laahndaahn of caws! Eas' laahndaahn!' exchange never fails to make me laugh. :funny:

And yeah, I agree that he's a capable enough actor to make it work with half his face obscured. I just think that if they do take the mask off, he could have a chance to really add another layer to it.

Also, I've just thought that Joker never took his makeup off (apart from a quick glance) partially because comic Joker was permanently like that, but Bane frequently appears without his mask in the comics.

That summer pic we got--the first official Bane pic--made it look like the mask was almost attached to Bane's flesh.

Hmmm yea. Maybe he's been wearing it constantly for so long, his skin has like, molded around it.

If I had to take a guess, if his mask does come off, it's not going to look pretty underneath.

I really like this mask. It may be a bit front-heavy, though.

Tom Hardy commented on whether or not people will recognize him or not in the film:

In an interview with Absolute Radio published on September 20th, Hardy was asked if he was prepared for the level of celebrity fame that would come after playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. The interviewer stated Hardy was going to be a household name around the world and Hardy replied, "No, I don't think so. I think because...you are...I don't think...because of the nature of the...have you seen the poster of? Yeah, I don't think anyone will recognize me," he finished with a laugh as the interviewer noted Bane wears a mask.

My wiki - Bane entry

I have a feeling we'll never see him mask less except maybe in his backstory.

Maybe when he's younger and training as part of the League of Shadows with Neeson.

I think there should be a scene with unmasked Bane devouring a giant turkey leg...ala Kano in Mortal Kombat.

It would add layers...of awesomeness.

Is it me, or does Bane's voice sounds like Goldfinger speaking through a respirator....? At first I thought he sounded like General Grievous from Revenge of the Sith, but listening to his voice a few times, he reminds me of Goldfinger....

He probably gets his nutrition intravenously. He reminds me of neither Greivous nor Goldfinger.

Intravenously through his right arm, that's why he wears that leather gauntlet. Maybe.
