Bane should have a South American accent because he is South American.

Question is: Will he be in this interpretation?

Well, he should be, because he is. Just like I said already, it would be out of character if Batman had a British accent, and it would be out of character if Bane didn't have a Spanish/South American accent.

Batman is American, so he sounds American. Bane is from South America, so he has a Spanish accent.

While it would be cool to have him stay as close to the source material as possible, him being South American and having an accent I don't think is essential.

He doesn't need to be. It isn't a necessity for the character. Things can be changed with his background. Just like Dent didn't need to be scarred by acid. It doesn't change the quality of the character. If the same ideas are there, and it's done correctly, then it's fine. But things don't need to be exact. I'm open to the changes, as long as they're good.

What would the character of Bane gain from not being South American?

Niether does:
Christian Bale.
Gary Oldman
Michael Cane
Ken Watanabe

I WIN!

Sorry but I have to discredit Michael Caine in your post because his on-screen character does not and never has had an American accent lol

Anyway, here's the thing. Actors like Christian Bale and Gary Oldman utilize American accents because their characters are American. Assumingly, Tom Hardy is not playing an American character...therefore he would not need to utilize an American accent.

Wow, talk about the point going right over your head.

Yeah, it's possible to sound South American without sounding goofy and stereotypical.

Oh, definitely. That's why I said that if Nolan decides to use the South American accent, he should make sure it sounds good.

He could be any nationality really, if he is a League of Shadows member perhaps he has a English or another european accent, Hell, an Indian accent even. IMO, "Physical" character traits are less important and are more adaptable than psychological character traits.

Bane's South American background doesn't scream necessity to get the character correctly. Does it to you? You would think it needs to be or it makes Bane less of a character or something. It's not like that at all. There could be better ideas out there for it. As long as they're good and done correctly. Whatever fits the story they're going for.

There should be fundamentels, as there are for every character. Nolan likes to twist things around for the villains, without losing the fundamentals of the characters themselves.

What does his accent say anything about him exactly? He could be any nationality or have any different accent. It doesn't change the quality of his character at all.

As a supporter of the "don't change CW's nationality", I'd be a hypocrite if I wanted Nolan to change Bane's nationality. But that accent has got to not sound as in BTAS.

They were going for the luchador style in the animated series.

People keep writing "South American" accent as if there's a continental accent for all countries in SA.

Thats just not the case. Spanish speakers usually can detect where one's from just based on differences on accents as each country has its own uniqueness.

Also seeing as the fictional island of Santa Prisca is supposed to be in the Northern Caribbean they'd be more inclined to use the Bahamas, Cuba, Puerto Rico, or the Dominican Republic .

I'd prefer honestly if they just say Santa Prisca is an isle off Columbia or Venezuela preferably Colombia as it would be easy to set up the drug aspect of Venom.

Could make for some great storytelling. I just hope whatever country they are going to pick Nolan makes sure Hardy nails the accent of that certain area. Hardy is a chameleon so he'll learn it in no time.

Uh, I guess so because I have no idea what you mean.

I loved it, it's so Bane to me.

"Beg for mercy Batman, SCREAM MY NAME!"

Wasn't all that impressed.......... with any of them......? LOL

I don't know; it's hard because I have this voice caught in my head for Bane, it's utterly perfect, and I don't know one soul who can do it. :oldrazz:

I think it'd be cool if we ever got Keith David to develop a spanish accent and he could ever do a Bane voice; I loved him in Spawn. Just go to 1:48. :woot:

You know, just for the record I want to go out on a limb here and say something. Nolan will use the mask and use venom.

Nolan knows this is Batman, and people still get hooked on the "REALISM", but come on...Scarecrow wore a mask and used fear toxin? How is that any further from a guy who wears a mask and takes steroids?

2 months before Bane was announced I said: "I know Nolan will never put Bane in his series, but that is the only character left that I would truly be interested in seeing on the big screen and if he does Bane that would be amazing"

And now he's doing Bane. He wouldn't take on a character just to change him. If he can make it work, he will. Batman isn't real! Scarecrow isn't real! He made them all characters accurate right down to Joker's purple suit.

So I have faith. We will see a mask and a type of injection :)

Let's say Nolan decides to use Venom for Bane.

It would make sense because after all, the League of Shadows DID discover the FEAR TOXINS in the first place, while Crane just perfected a more lethal formula.

If the League is gonna come back, they need a new strategy. Why not create steroids that can enhance their followers?
