Supergirl Tyler Hoechlin IS Superman - Part 2

One little tidbit I liked in the EW article:

Kara is coming out of the midseason finale at a crossroads, and the journey that she’s on is kind of helped by Clark, who is returning from Argo kind of on his own journey,” says Rovner, adding that the Supergirl writers pitched using the Smallville farm because “it kind of seemed like the organic place for them to meet” given where the Kryptonians’ heads are at when the crossover begins.

I like this because it sounds like Superman's involvement will still be tied into Supergirl and her story where she leaves off in 4x08 a little bit, rather than just being a left-field standalone appearance for the crossover. So Kara will likely be visiting Clark and Lois on her own before getting sucked into the crossover shenanigans, which is nice (and also explains why Lois is in Parts 1&3 - Part 1 for the pre-adventure visit, Part 3 for helping save the day in the end. Superman appearing in all 3 parts is probably due to the Black Suit version). Them including Clark in SG's current storyline also gives me hope that this might not be his only appearance this season. Tyler's other TV show will also be filming in Vancouver, so...he'll be around. ;)

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he were to show up in the final minutes of "Bunker Hill" in order to get the wheels turning on the crossover.

Yep, I was thinking that as well.

New (I think?) old pics from filming on Kent farm:

I know I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up but that EW snippet sounds like we might see more of Clark than just the crossover to me.

Also it would seem much like the way Smallville ended that Lois & Clark live on the Kent farm.

These pics get me excited for a Superman series again. Imagine seeing them on the Kent farm every now and then. But I'm guessing Martha Kent doesn't live there anymore, because otherwise we would've seen her at the farm during the crossover. Unless they say that she's away at the time visiting friends somewhere.

But if Lois and Clark live on the farm, then would they live with Martha? Wouldn't she want to give them space? Alternatively, isn't Smallville too far from Metropolis for them to live and commute from there every day? I can see Clark making the journey, but he has to fly Lois to work each day?

Lois and Clark ended Smallville living in a Metropolis apartment after having lived in and moved from the Kent farm. On the show, the city was pretty close to Smallville, but they still moved to be closer to work; this was all covered in the Season 10 episode "Kent." If the Kents aren't there in the crossover, either they're out somewhere or dead (I can't recall if the show updated us on their status).

They shouldn't be dead. Jonathan I can understand, but they should save Martha!

Honestly, I’d settle for like HALF of GoT’s budget lol.
That should be plenty. The budget for the main cast for a Superman show would be nothing compared to GoT, and GoT already has amazing effects and production standards on an epic scale outside of the cast. If a Superman show got this kind of budget it would be a real show of confidence and intent from those in control.

It’s been ages since I watched Season 10 but I thought they kept the farm house in the finale.

Well they didn't sell it, but I didn't think they lived in it either. It can be a retreat away from the big city. They were both probably earning enough to keep that too. And even if they weren't, Martha Kent must've been earning quite a bit to keep it running. Didn't she end up in a rather high-powered government job?

No worries. As far as I can remember, they were definitely in the process of selling it in the finale. Martha did express some unhapppiness about it when she came for the wedding, so I think they may have changed their minds about selling. They still moved out, though. In the Season 11 comics that continued the show's story, they were still living in the Metropolis apartment they rented after making the decision to move in 10x17 and were shown moving into in 10x19.

Yes. Martha worked as the US Senator for Kansas and lived in Washington, D.C. when Congress was in session. I'm curious what Supergirl will suggest is going on with the Kents and what their explanation will be for how the farm is still used. I don't recall Kara ever saying anything about it.

Yeah. Honestly, you wouldn't even need that much to make it look good. Just to get into this hypothetical situation because I can't resist - WB currently spends roughly $50 million per season each on Flash, Supergirl and Arrow. Possibly a little more, possibly a little less, but that's the ballpark, so let's go with that number for a moment. That $50mil is spread across 22 episodes, which gives each show an approximate $2.3mil per episode budget. Game of Thrones, by contrast, spent $60mil on their cheapest season (the first one), and now get about $100mil per season...spread over a MUCH smaller episode count. This season their average (eg, reported) episode budget is $15mil. So honestly, if WB just spent the same amount of money that they typically do on these shows, that same $50mil, but spent it on a smaller episode order - like, say, 10 episodes - they'd be looking at a TV show with a $5mil per episode budget, which is more than double what these shows currently have, is also higher than the Marvel/Netflix shows, and frankly, any other superhero show on the air at the moment. Superman could totally work with a budget like that, imo. I haven't been able to find any hints toward Krypton's per-episode budget (except Goyer saying it's higher than Arrow's but not on Game of Thrones' level), but I suspect that's exactly what they did for that show (hence the short episode count on that), and it looks great, imo.

And heck, if they wanted to spend $60-70mil on the season for even better production values, I know they'd still get their money's worth. Put it on the DC streaming service and I believe a decent live-action Superman show could single-handedly keep that service in business for several years, and give them more revenue to spend on their other shows, too. And yes, I know people think "but it would still be CW quality in writing" but no: bigger budgets = better creative teams. In order to get the better writers, you have to be able to afford them. That's actually a part of the whole "better production values" thing that people often overlook. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix is a good example - same producers and showrunner as CW's Riverdale, but with a bigger budget. The writing/directing is better, along with everything else.

Did Lois and Clark get married in Smallville? I thought they still weren't married even in the future but that they put it on hold.

Technically, no, they didn't marry. They were engaged, and had their wedding, but because it was interrupted (as were future attempts), the implication is that they hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Let's do a head count. So far, we have the following characters from Superman's main mythology that have or will be appearing in the "Arrowverse". FYI, I am only listing characters that have been known to interact or cross paths with Superman in the history established on "Supergirl".

I must have either assumed they kept it or dreamt a scene up haha. It has been ages since I’ve Season season 10 I think maybe cause it’s the last season and I don’t want it to end haha. It’s my favourite show ever but that last season I just don’t remember too much. I do remember that’s Homecoming was my favourite episode, maybe my favourite of all Smallville.

When did we get General Zod?

Don't forget we had Non as well in season 1.

Season 2 finale when Superman was fighting Supergirl the Silver K had him thinking he was fighting General Zod. We also later learned that Superman killed Zod.

Seasons 8-10 were basically Metropolis, or to take it further practically "Superman" without him being Superman yet
