Supergirl Tyler Hoechlin IS Superman

Cavils Superman is two years in and is 35yrs old, when does one stop being a rookie?

When you have more experience doing what you do. You could become a mechanic right now and you'd be a rookie until you get more experience which can take years. Take a look at what he's dealt with in that time, he's not the fully established Superman. Hoechlin's Superman we know has been doing it for what like a decade on Supergirl? That's a massive difference.

Even if Cavill's Superman does have 2 years doing it it's clear from the FILMS that he is still working it all out. I swear are some people not even paying attention to movies these days?

In any case this is the TYLER HOECHLIN IS SUPERMAN thread so let's move on.

I am clearly not as attentive as you because somehow I managed to miss what you clearly saw that prompted you to give MOS and BVS a 9/10. And yes let's move on, finally happy at the possibility to be getting a decent Superman in live action after his last two outings on the big screen.:yay:

I ****ing love these colors.

Really, the cape attachments and the belt are ******, but this is overall a great suit. It's grown on me. I like it and I can't wait to watch this.

The suit is growing on me a lot. My main complaint about it is not really the look or colours, but the actual tightness of the suit - when you see Tyler flexing or moving in certain photos, the suit looks a little loose around him. I know we've been spoilt a lot over the years with skintight spandex, but the looseness doesn't really look right.

I guess you got to factor in the budget with it been made for (at the moment) 2 appearances.

It's just a difference of opinion in ratings end of the day. Those little digs people like you keep doing are just childish and trollish. Just embrace the new stuff, no need to take digs at the other stuff to big the new stuff up.

I've always found the shirt rip weird. Does he not get hot? Does he not pee? Does he not wear underwear?

And why is the shirt especially “iconic”? How come we don’t have an iconic trouser drop? Or an iconic sock peel?

The iconic trouser drop is featured heavily in the porn parody. Don't pretend you don't know that. :o

Maybe Power Girl does the iconic bra drop. :o

The older I get, the less I like the shirt rip. It looks cool, but the thought of Superman wearing his suit under his clothes without anybody noticing is laughable. I know that suspension of disbelief is required to enjoy these characters and their stories, but that's a bit too much for me, because there's nothing fantastic about wearing layers.

Surprised he never got a ring like Flash. With Flash it's more plausible that he would be able to hide his costume under his clothing, at least he doesn't have to tuck away a giant cape.

Well in the last scene of the final episode of Smallville, it was totally believable, because he was only wearing a Superman T-shirt under his suit. :o

I'd be down for something like that. I'm also not totally opposed to having the suit "grow" over him through the use of Kryptonian technology. To be honest, though, neither of them really need to have their costumes on them. They're fast enough to grab them and get to the scene of a crime without sacrificing valuable time.

With Flash it's more plausible that he would be able to hide his costume under his clothing, at least he doesn't have to tuck away a giant cape.

He does have that cowl, though. And the boots.

I am all for suspending disbelief for certain things. I love the Nolan Batman trilogy but I think in some ways that ruined a lot of disbelief people would have for later films. I'm finding the everything has to make sense thing in films to be quite boring.

The shirt rip is iconic, I would rather have it knowing it wouldn't quite work than not have it at all.

I think you have a point, but for me, I think I would've felt the same way about the shirt rip even if those movies hadn't been made. Realism isn't that important to me at the end of the day; I just want to be entertained.

Yeah mate and to each their own. I'm not saying the Dark Knight trilogy is why you feel the way you do that was more a generalisation of the genre. Totally respect your opinion mate as with anything it would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything :woot:

Oh, definitely. I didn't think you were talking about me; I just wanted to explain where I was coming from.

The suit being a living entity sounds like something from JJ Abrams Superman script. Thanks, but no thanks.
Iconic shirt rip

Great to see this. I can already hear the John Williams theme!:woot::up:

I'm surprised that Zack Snyder hasn't recreated this iconic moment for his movies.

Hoechlin and the suit look a lot better in the behind-the-scene pics than the initial promo shot. My only gripe is the weird cape attachment.

I've always thought the suit should be nano-tech. An alien civilization many hundreds (if not thousands) of year more advanced than us will have mastered nano-tech, given that we're already making headway in R&D in that area at this early stage.

Why have hundreds of different clothes and outfits (civilan clothes, uniforms, space suits, fire-proof suits, etc) when you could have one suit which can alter itself to meet all needs?

Of course mate, didn't want you to think I was having a go that's all

What do you think of Tyler and his suit etc?

It's how it was done in the New 52, not a bad idea at all IMO but a little strange. Still given they're an advanced civilisation it does work. Not my preference but I wouldn't be adverse to it.

Yeah agreed there, it's kinda frustrating that little aspect as when you look at how it looks with the shirt rip you can see how cool it would look with a cape attachment like the MOS cape (for example).

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. It isn't ideal - I don't know what would be, to be honest - but it's an easier pill to swallow.

I wish Tyler was a little more muscular - I don't care about his height at all - but I think he has a decent build and looks like the character. I've never seen him in anything, so I can't comment on his acting, but if he's able to hold his own up against Benoist, I'm sure I'll like him fine.

As for the suit: it's decent. There are things about it I would change, but overall, I think it's pretty cool. And I like his Clark Kent garb. Nondescript, but stylish.

Didn't know that they were doing that in the New 52 books. I haven't read any of those yet.

Yeah, hopefully in the next incarnation of the suit they'll remove it.

I kinda like the Dean Cain spin change thing he did lol

and that made a lot less sense then the shirt rip (but it looked cool)

Even the Flash can't do this. :woot:

On the second thought. He did....

I saw him on Teen Wolf and he was solid on that so hopefully he can capture the authority, respect and warmth of Supetman.

I like it to, bar a few quibbles but the colours and the S are perfect. Those aspects are the best I've seen in live action.

It's interesting that the costume designer from Superman Lives got to make her Superman suit. I remember in the documentary the Death of Superman Lives she said it was the one suit she wanted to make but didn't get a chance to. So I'm glad she got to.

Didn't know that they were doing that in the New 52 books. I haven't read any of those yet.

Might be better off not doing ha ha although I would recommend the first storyline Grant Morrison did for Action Comics that was superb.

Yeah, hopefully in the next incarnation of the suit they'll remove it.

Agreed

One of the best scenes in SUPERMAN THE MOVIE is when Clark was about to tell Lois that he was really Superman....he straightens himself out of the slouch that he has had everytime he was dressed as Clark and adds several inches to his height and looks more "commanding" with his straight posture.

That's one of the things I love about watching Superman. If the actor does so, he's playing two different characters. Shows off their skills and whatnot.
