Underworld Awakening

To be fair, he was a badass hybrid for all of 5 minutes in Underworld. I thought he was a great character because he's not just there to kick people around. He's there to support and bring out qualities in the lead. Not to point fingers but sometimes it does seem like some male viewers feel he wasn't 'Alpha' enough. As if because he didn't sweep Seline aside and kick ass he was weak. Its her movie! Although I think the next one should be very much about him.

I'm not questioning his role in the film. Speedman played him in a way that was very uninteresting. He didn't get to do much before he transformed but what was there wasn't much.

Just came back from Seeing It.I agree It was too short.

The big selling point for this film Is Kate Beckinsale back In Black Leather kicking ass.
I wish we could had a bit more one on one screen time between Kate and India Eisley.
But,hopefully In next film(which Is likely to happen) we will get more.

I just hope for next film they reach deal with Scott Speedman.I don't want the next film to the search for Michael when we see him at end of film and It Is new actor.

I was just dissappointed with the whole reveal of what the Hybrid was in the 1st UW. I'll never forget how visually let down I was to see a grayish-blue mini-Hulk as their idea of an unstoppable vamplycan.

I thought it was kinda cool....especially the way Selene looked at him near the end while he was in his hybrid state. that was a cool shot of em both staring at each other.

I don't see why he would have to be big when you consider Marcus and Victor, the oldest and strongest vamps still look human. They despatch werewolves pretty easily and for the vamps, with age comes power. They went for Amelia's blood because she was old. Having just been turned Michael whoops Viktor until Viktor's guards step in.

I actually love the simple and compact look of the hybrid form. I didn't want him to 'Hulk' out or anything. I mean they are a lot stronger without the bulk to make them faster and more agile.

Without interference from anyone I believe Viktor would have won just based on skill and experience. I mean Michael has the power but he doesn't know how to fully use it yet.

Just going back a page or two someone said something about Lycans reverting back to human form when they die. They also did this in ROTL when Lucian was told to get rid of the body. He burned the body and you could see it shift back to human.

Where they lost me in this was that everyone in that vampire coven knew who Selene was and what she did. How could they have possibly known she was the one to kill Marcus. The only people alive who knew about that were Selene and Michael. The same goes for Selene killing Victor. Not to mention Selene's relationship with Michael.

I liked Eve as a character. I hoped she wouldn't turn out to be one of those annoying kids they love to have when the lead suddenly discovers she has a child. Lots of potential for her.

Not a fan of Lycans becoming the main bad guys. Maybe this is the endgame of what Lucian tried to do in the original UW but it didn't work for me. I loved the concept of 'there are no good and bad guys, just opposing sides' the earlier movies had.

As much as I love badass Selene I think they need to bring Michael back so she can regain some of her 'softness'. This version of Selene we saw in the movie will have a hard time bonding with her daughter IMO.

I wonder if Micheal would have become even more powerful after 12 years in hibernation. We've only seen him over the course of at most a week, and in Awakening 6 months after that where he did nothing. I'd love to see probably an anime like 'Endless War' of him and Selene after 600 years.

In this universe the older you are the more powerful but I wonder if hybrids are already at their full strength. They would just have to learn how to use it, be trained as fighter like Selene.

We were told in Underworld that the vampires where a gossipy bunch. The whole house knew about Michael being there quickly. I don't think its unreasonable to suggest they phoned friends elsewhere to gossip when they found out 'Seline's 'lover' was a lycan', Erika assumed Selene took him back because she fancied him. Kraven went back to the mansion with his team after witnessing Selene kill Viktor, he told his team, the team told others and they told others before Marcus killed them. After that and the disappearance of Marcus, it doesn't take a genius to assume.

Exactly. In the first two Selene was softened by her love for Michael, her paternal relationship with Victor and the pain of her family's death. In this one, that was meant to be Eve but Seline shut her out for most of it. The only time she cracked was when she saw Michael in the kid.

Oh I'm on board with the gossip believe me. But I hardly doubt there was time for that much gossip since UWE continues the same night as UW ended. And Kraven got back to the covern asap to kill Marcus. After which him and his team were dead. And we also know that Marcus destroyed the whole covern. Even if one or two escaped I don't see how they could possibly know. And I doubt Marcus told anyone where he went off to. I just don't see how it's possible in a believable way for me to accept that this new covern knows the story as much as they did. Personally it would have made it more interesting if Selene was more of a mystery them.

I don't think Selene even cared that much about the girl (even after knowing she was her daughter) till she noticed that Eve is also Michael's daughter. It's like she went only in protective mode after that because she realized if Michael was dead the only part left of him to her would be Eve.

I just can't get over the scene in the van at the beginning. You can see Eve is scared of being out in the real world and having her first conversation with her mother. And then to have Selene grab her arm and yank it then bite into her wrist like that. Not exactly the kind of thing that makes a child more relaxed or at ease. If Michael had been there it all would have gotten down differently I think. Because I thought it was brutal.

She only did it to tell wither the girl was telling the truth or not... and as it turned out, she was telling the truth.

As for as Selene being preggers, I was thinking that perhaps she was almost 3 months into her pregnancy since there was no way she would have been shown a bump in the beginning. so in that case, I think the beginning took place at least 3 months after Evolution.

I'm going with test tube baby, I mean seems more logical for them.

Still makes it a brutal scene. I'm not saying Selene wouldn't have done it anyway. But I just think the Selene of the first two movies would have gone about it diffrently.

Watching Evolution Selene doesn't kill any of the humans when she fights them at the start. She comes out of the freezing chamber and she massacres them all in this one. When the people she loves are in serious danger she goes nuts.

Another thing. In the first one we saw Seline almost drown, in the second she almost burned alive, in this one she seemed a bit too invincible. An argument can be made about how she was captured and frozen but she didn't seem to be too much in distress.

^She got a big power boost in the last one by drinking Corvinus' blood remember, she is now the most powerful immortal, havent seen the new one but that would be why she is pretty invincible.

You just need something bigger to make her feel vulnerable. I'd be fine if 5 starts with Michael mind controlled to kill her which is a popular theory as long as it ends at the end at the first act and they then go looking for the people who controlled him

I still think Michael is more powerful (hence she is Subject 1 and he is Subject 0) because he has all three strains. Alexander's pure genetic abnormality, Lucian gave him William's abnormality and Selene gave him Marcus'. Selene doesn't have the lycan strain which is weird because she drank Michael's blood when he was a lycan and its his blood with the Alexander strain that bridges the gap to create hybrids. She's also bitten by a lycan in this one and doesn't exhibit a change.

Eve on the other hand is 40% pure immortal, 40% Vampire, 20% Lycan. Hence the lycan aspect only really shows in her teeth and a little change in her brow along with her hybrid eyes.

After seeing this for a second time, this movie is just okay. I didn't really like it as much as I did the first time. The action is great but the story is very meh. This movie would have been better if it lived up to its marketing. A movie about humans vs vampires vs lycans, with the Eve thrown in for good measure. If they do a sequel I hope they do a better job with the story.

I really wish that they wouldve brought back Erika in this one so we could have some sort of connection to the first film besides Selene.

And I feel lke we still need a prequel movie or comic or something that focuses on Amelia since she is the one with the least amount of development or screen time. Plus she died so easily she didnt even put up a fight.

It seemed Amelia was only just a figurehead, not really a warrior like Viktor. At least that's what it conveys in the first movie.

We see her fighting in the flashback of the 2nd film. So she knew how to defend herself.

Going into it's third weekend and finished two full weeks at the box office Underworld Awakening has pulled in a domestic total of $48.7m and a worldwide total of $88.7m.
Being SuperBowl weekend this film is likely to be hit hard as it's audience is mostly going to be watching football. The Grey, Haywire and Chronicle(opening new) will also be affected I'd think.

I may try to catch this again if my Saturday volunteer project gets rained out. I dont' have another must see film till Ghost Rider Spirits of Vengeance.

The DVD of Evo for some reason has a picture of Amelia on the spine. I guess the designer got confused and thought it was Kate! :woot:

As for box office. I hope Underworld won't be affected that much. A 50% drop I'm hoping but BOM says 45% of the audience opening weekend were women. (Which invalidates the theory people only watch for Kate in leather unless Kate has a huge lesbian fanbase!)

Plus, few outside the US give a damn about the superbowl (its on from 10.55pm until 4.00am here. What the hell game lasts that long?! And we don't even get the ad breaks which lets face it is the only reason to watch!:o) so the international totals should be unaffected. All in all, I hope it passes the worldwide total of Rise of the Lycans this week and breaks $100M in the end.

I hope it does enough for another film, but we didn't really expect a 4th did we. But they way it was made (story wise too) I think they knew they would make one more, and I'm sure in that we will find out all the answeres we have been speculating about where is Eve really from, Micheal etc and what will happen to Selene and everyone else.

Still gonna try and get one more viewing of this film before it goes from the cinema.

This franchise makes money. Easy money. Im sure there will be another.
