Venom Venom's Box Office Thread

I think that a lot of people were craving a Venom movie and audiences were very curious about it. I wonder how the sequel will do.

I doubt that. I don’t remember people asking for a Venom movie after Spider-Man 3.

Most of all I think Venom was craving a Venom movie

To be fair though; the idea did sound awfully stupid back then.
Absolutely. My argument with this guy was more of a hypothetical scenario, but this guy was like "lol it's pointless discussing this because it's going to be a hot garbage failure" .

I remember when before the movie was released and I said "Maybe they are hoping for Deadpool money", I received the "Pffft nah, that's absurd" replies I silently agreed with.

And then this movie outperformed the first Deadpool. :lmao:

Lordy, this could pass all the Spider-Man movies.

At least the sequel will have a hefty enough budget insuring proper Venom/Carnage screen time and action.

It's only surpassing Spider-Man 2 at this point. I'll laugh hard if it surpasses the first movie.
Well, I hope you laughed hard, because it just did surpass the first SM film lol

On a serious note, I really can't believe this is making so much money. It was fun, but quite forgettable and average. It really doesn't deserve to make what it actually has as it just gives Sony the opportunity to keep that property and not give it away to Marvel to make a proper good Venom film.

Good point. That is something I definitely want to see.

Good then. Give me that Woody Harrelson screen time as a fun villain, or a lousy villain who would be fun by his presence at least.

I'm laughing with good joy. It shattered my expectations of being another Fant4stic, and I laughed wildly at the outlandish failure of that movie.

If three trashy Transformers sequels to a terrible first can make a billion buck a piece, I can believe seeing these financial results for this movie.

I’m honestly not surprised at Venom’s success. I’ve been hyped since the second trailer. Since they announced Tom Hardy as the lead. Since they announced the guy who did Zombieland is doing Venom.

I read the Venom comics and that proved to me that Venom as a character has enough appeal on his own sans Spider-Man

Yep. All this

Hypothetically speaking, if this wasn't Sony and didn't have a lot of inherent (natural and understandable) backlash and negativity surrounding it before it even started, I think nearly everything -- casting, crew, etc. -- was pointing towards something to be excited about... I think a lot of people were just viewing this with opposite-of-rose-colored glasses, and chose to see/interpret everything as bad, instead of good/exciting.

If you take away the prejudice that this movie had, I think a lot of signs may have pointed to and indicated the kind of success this movie is experiencing.. And as someone previously said, nerds are and always will be a minority in the GA, so our gripes (no Spidey origin, etc.) don't even register to the general audience member

While I was always on board and hyped about this film, I still didn't even expect THESE numbers, but I'm sooo pumped it's doing this well. Seriously can't wait for the sequel(s) and what else may be coming down the line in the future

edited out
Why post that tweet?
Are you insulting other posters but trying to hide behind the pretense it is not you saying it? Just trolling? It certainly looks like it.
Besides, language.

Who am I trolling exactly? I’m just showing the salt like other people have done.

That tweet explicitly and vulgarly insults the people who went to see Venom.
I did not report your post (and will not anyway) because I wanted you to have the opportunity to explain yourself and/or delete it.
As 2kt09 already said, that language is not allowed, not even in any linked page.
Please take it down.

We already know what people spew on the internet anyway, thank you.

So in lieu of talking about how much, pardon the pun, venom folks online, and even some here continue to do, spew about those who enjoyed Venom, and no doubt would have continued to do and gloat if the film had been a financial bomb, folks now want to be the moral authority on the forum.

Not really, just that that language is not allowed.
As is trolling and insulting.
I am on no high horse here, only short horses around my parts.

I garauntee 95% of the people who complained still paid to watch the movie. They won’t admit it either, that’s what makes it even better.

Hot damn this is impressive. It seems like each week we gotta revise where this thing will land. $600 million: Sony would have been happy. $700 million Sony wold have been ecstatic. $800+ million, everyone's gettin' raises lol. Where will this thing likely finish now? $850M?

I don't have much of a side, really. For me, this movie was definitely bad, but I've also been disappointed with Spidey's portrayal in the MCU. If I had to choose I'd still prefer to keep him in the MCU a little while longer because I want to see the character interact with the F4.

I'll see if Sony can start to regain my confidence with Into The Spider-Verse and vice-versa with Marvel Studios with Far From Home.

But yeah, if this movie surpasses Homecoming at the BO and Sony takes the character back it will definitely bring out the salt and backlash.
