Venom Venom's Box Office Thread

SONY makes loads of Box office money from Venom....The Same SONY makes loads of Box office money from Spiderman, still..Its win-win for them..
Yea it's a pretty good deal. They reap the benefits from the MCU's creative process while experiment with there side universe.

It could potentially beat out Deadpool's box office.

It'll comfortably beat GOTG, SM2 & Deadpool.

Venom should be looking at Spider Man '02 & Wonder Woman as it's last 2 big scalps. There is a chance (albeit a slim one) that Venom becomes the 2nd highest grossing CBM solo/origin movie.

Spectacular job for Venom doing as well as it has done overseas so far. Definitely flies in the face of those who all felt this was going to, wanted it to, or should bomb.

Wolverine wasn’t prematurely rebooted. The fan base was split. Everyone wanted Tobey back and wanted marvel to take over. I remember the comment section for asm movies had so much trolling.

Well it was actually very different back then. around the time of TASM people heard they wanted the oscrorp tower in The Avengers and obviously people wanted to see Spiderman with the Avengers. it wasn't a case of wanting marvel to take over... it was just a case back then of wanting spider-man to be part of The Avengers.

Alot of the Marvel taking over didn't start until the hack emails came out.

And believe it or not Toby wasn't getting that much love around that time. i remember a rise of people ripping into Toby's portrayal around that time. Although now we are on the 3rd reboot i think nostalgia has kicked in for Toby but thats about it.

Not to mention its just gonna be plain weird for the actors involved. Hollywood likes to immortalize actors when they take on a big role until they retire from it or pass the mantle. Right now Tom Holland IS Spiderman just like RDJ IS Ironman or Chris Evana IS Captain America or Gal Gadot IS Wonder Woman. Having another competing actor play the character at the same time is uncharted territory and I think would...just be plain awkward wouldn't it?

Happened with Quicksilver between 2014 and 2015 for Days of Future Past and Age of Ultron. And heck, if you want to get technical with that, even in the same year with Pietro appearing in that sting in Winter Soldier in April and then Peter just a month later in the same year.

Honestly, Sony's Marvel Universe should just have Miles Morales be their main Spider-Man, if not Peter Parker. Not like Miles will be popping up in the MCU anytime soon anyway.

I remember a lot of Tobey will never be replaced debates and trolling when asm was going on it was annoying to be honest. I love Tobey but he’s not my definitive spidey nor was Andrew or even Holland yet.

I’m tired of miles. Sony should of made spidey 2099 I swear that would of made money

You guys gotta look at the bigger picture here. While yes on its own Venom's success is good but Sony Pictures as a whole still makes movies where 95 % of them or more are flops. Having one or two successful movies every year or every other year is still not helping them long term. Sony's Dragon Tattoo & Hugh Jackman Election Movie just flopped together. So Venom does not save Sony Pictures not by a long shot & when you look at it Domestically it kind of is a flop. Since it slowed down making money on its third weekend & A Star Is Born ended up being it & ticked up. So Venom if you look at the Big Picture is not exactly a big success story here long term. Sony Pictures could still end up being the next Major Movie Studio sold. Sony Pictures over all success rate has never been & never will be good. Their successes like Jumanji & Venom are band aids at best in the wider schemes

That’d be ironic . But I don’t think that’s the case it is odd we haven’t heard a word from them tho

I swear, the gymnastics people go through in order to avoid eating crow and just acknowledging that Venom, against all odds and prayers of the hardcore geek fans who wanted it to flop and burn, is a financial success, is truly astounding. Talking about Venom and you stretch it to start talking about Sony Pictures as a whole? If you didn't enjoy the film, fine, but least keep within the film and not bringing in other projects they have.

There's no ifs, and or buts about it this is a breakout success. This is about to end up grossing $800 million. Even movies with GOOD critical reception on similar budgets don't touch that kind of money. I think Sony's been waiting for the China release to announce the sequel, I'm betting my chips that they announce it this week as its now clear Venom is an international star and people want more.

But it is a fair point to be made that Venom's success over all does not save Sony Pictures & Sony Pictures is not out of anything just because of a few recent band aid hits

I never said it was not any type of success. Sony Pictures is as a whole still a very bad movie studio with more flops than hits in the last few years or more

Even those of us who knew Venom had appeal beyond the comics never expected this. The movie is an absolute smash hit, and they're certainly popping corks at Sony.

Luckily, Venom isn't meant to be and isn't seen as the savior of Sony Pictures. If anyone expected it to be, they're dreaming. It's a film that made way more money than many expected or wanted it to, much to the chagrin of many here, I'm sure.

You mean the "Venom will flop because he has no depth" crowd?
Good call. :funny:

Even the popular bloggers seem to have nothing to say about this as they were all shouting to the Heavens that this thing was "Catwoman bad" prior to release.

Why do I think you sound familiar?

So Venom does not save Sony Pictures not by a long shot & when you look at it Domestically it kind of is a flop.

You realize by your logic Captain America First Avenger, Thor, Ant-Man & The Wasp, Ant-Man, and Thor Dark World are domestic flops right?

No offense amigo, but you don't seem to understand how BO works all that well. Like, at all.

With close to 12.9m on Monday, Venom has nao become the top grossing solo CBM in China overtaking AM&TW.

It's headed for a decent drop in it's 2nd weekend. It might beat FB2's OW if it manages to regain screens due to having a high PTA on 2nd Saturday.

Damn I’m glad venom is so well loved but I hate Sony . It’s bittersweet for me really. Favorite villain of all time but not done how I would like and feels forced but is gaining worldwide recognition and becoming a bigger household name. Just wish Avi Arad wasn’t attached to this.
