I personally care more for Aiden and his story more then:
GTA 5 .. Franklin and Michael are boring stereotypes and in no way the most interesting characters in the game, Trevor..... crazy only gets you so far... still uninteresting,, just a little bit better then the other two in memorable. )
Just Cause 2, I don't even remember the main characters name!
GTA 3, boring guy
Elder Scroll Series... You make the character yourself no writing necessary.
All of these games... Open world and great... but the characters are mostly bland (I know some will argue over GTA 5 on this but compensating with over the top wackiness doesn't always work for me.)
The only games with a story I've ever cared for in an Open World setting are Red Dead Redemption and Watch Dogs. Seriously... it seems like most don't even try and are just about how much you can do after the main plot is over.
