Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel? - Part 1

I like Gina Carano & I don't think she's as bad as people make out. But casting her for a role like this is like picking Triple H for Thor.

I'm not saying she's horrible or anything like that. As a matter of fact, I liked her fine in F&F, but I don't think she's really an accomplished actor in the way that Theron, Blunt, etc. are and I think that's what they're going to need to pull this movie off. Y'know, there was a lot of talk about how GotG was risky and how Ant-Man is risky. I guess that's true, but this movie could really open some doors for women in lead roles if it hits a home run and I'd love to see that happen. I don't see that happening with most of the women on this list; though I'll be rooting for whoever is cast for the role. I WANT it to succeed. In this way, I think this is by far the riskiest movie Marvel has on the table as women have yet to be given this opportunity in the genre (with a couple of forgettable exceptions.......).

I may have mentioned this earlier (don't remember for sure), but I think Marion Cotillard might work out well. A very fine actor. People have said that Emily Blunt doesn't look good as a blonde (have to disagree there) and maybe they'd say the same about Marion, but I wouldn't kick her out of the cosmos no matter what her hair color was (including green).

Marion is one of my favorite actresses ever and she's one of the best actresses around but IMO she'll be so wrong for Captain Marvel.

This. Marion Cotillard is one of my top 5 favorite actresses, not just working today, but probably of all-time. She's amazing...but nobody is right for all roles. And I just don't think this one would be a good fit for her at all.

You could both be right of course, but I think good actors are good actors and, I think we all agree that, she's one of the best. Because someone hasn't played a particular role, doesn't mean they can't. What got me thinking about her was her role in The Dark Knight Rises (not her best role for sure, but not at all bad either).

Who would have thought Heath Ledger would have pulled off The Joker the way he did? Good actors have a way of surprising us. I'm not saying she's the gal for the part, but, hey, with someone as talented as she is, you just never know.

At this point I think I'm going to be very disappointed if Emily Blunt doesn't get the role.

I'll be disappointed only as far I am already invisioning her in my mind as captain marvel, but I'm always ready to give someone else a chance to surprise me :)

Haha, you've done a complete 180 over the course of this thread, and I respect it. :woot:

On that note I feel like Emily Blunt is becoming to the Captain Marvel board what Henry Cavill was to the Superman board once upon a time. Only she seems like a more realistic possibility than he did. :cwink:

I think you are right about that flickchick. Blunt is clearly becoming the fan favorite choice.

You might both be right. I've been going over this in my mind and maybe she isn't right for the part (I still think she could surprise us though.....). The thing is that I REALLY think they've got to get SOMEONE who is a top tier actor first and foremost. If they don't, there's a good chance the movie doesn't come off as well as it could and that could spell trouble for more women in lead roles like this one. That probably leads me focus a little TOO much on the outstanding, pure actor aspect, but at least I'm not hyping some talentless, hot blonde as my ideal candidate (keeping that one generic).

I didn't know Blunt was on Marvel's radar to the extent she was (BW and Carter). I think that's very, very good news. She's someone I'm sure could pull off this role.

And will, hopefully, seem like a more realistic character. Maybe I'm being a little bit hard on Henry, but I'd like to see the cap marvel movie a better one than MoS.

 :D

Marvel better nab her, before another studio does. :D
And besides, she's already on Marvel's radar (Peggy, Black Widow) I think it's very possible she might get the role!

I wouldn't be surprised if she's already in talks. Hell, I reckon Marvel already knows who'll play her. She'll cameo in Age of Ultron is my bet, so whoever they're looking at would need to be cast soon-ish to be in time for the reshoots.

I don't see them making this character French and I don't see an actress like her signing a 5 or 9 picture deal. I have my issue with certain Marvel castings but their actual lead casting has been damn good. Whoever they choose will probably be good.

The Marvel brand will sell the film well enough, it starring a woman won't hurt it. Frozen, The Hunger Games and Maleficent prove that genre films starring women do just fine.

As long as Marvel keeps the quality above Thor: The Dark World levels (like Guardians and Cap 2 were) things will work out.

Yeah....you're most likely right. Like I said, I think a really strong actor is what is going to be needed to carry the film (and whatever you think about Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie, they are both TOP notch actors) so I started latching on to the best I could think of and left the physical part to the make up folks. If they can make Charlize Theron look like she did in Monster, I'm sure they can get the right look for Carol Danvers.

As a matter of fact, Charlize would probably be my second pick after Emily Blunt. Both are top of the heap actors. I'll be interested to see Charlize in the new Mad Max movie. It looks like it's going to be pretty gnarly.

People talk about Blunt for Carol but I also think she would be an awesome Moonstone.
