Tbh I think that Marvel Studios looking at the indie scene to find their potential director kinda makes sense. Big name women directors are hard to come by, and it's not like they could ever convince people of the caliber of Bigelow to accept this job anyway.

She's basically the MCU equivalent of Superman....basically. I think one of the challenges of the script is how do you create vulnerabilities in someone who's such a bad ass? It can be (and has been) done, but what's the BEST way to do it? I really hope it isn't some sort of "ohhhh, I'm psychologically so fragile" take and trust it won't be. I hope she has more of a CA mindset (but not exactly); tough, but caring. Come to think of it, Thor is a lot like that too. Prolly more gentle than Cap. I want to see a very nuanced role. I wanna smart @$$!!!!

Well, I think that's why Nicole Pearlman said that writing Captain Marvel is "much harder than writing Guardians of The Galaxy." The Russos had the same concerns with The Scarlet Witch in Civil War. They said "if she wanted to, she could have ended the airport fight in seconds." With these powerful characters, there needs to be some internal flaw or vulnerability to limit the hero in some capacity, so they don't simply overpower the plot.

What about making Carol a bit of a hot head and it leads to mistakes being made? Brian Reed's run also focused on Carol always underestimating herself, trying to be the greatest hero she could be? There is also that bit of her retaining Mar-Vell's memories. Maybe she starts having an identity crisis? I don't know. I kind of want to see her Kree Warrior side, but definitely sassy. I find it funny how with Ant-Man and The Wasp, Ant-Man is the funny one, and Wasp is the serious badass. In the comics, it was the opposite. People keep talking about Carol being a "badass", and while that's all gravy, I want to see a complex character that is more than just "badass."

Nuanced, definitely. I liked what Meg LeFauve said about Carol:

She can't be a stand-in for every female character, because, honestly that wouldn't be a very good character. She has to be a specific character.

I wouldn't *really* compare Carol to Superman, unless recent comics gave her a truly major powerup. She's powerful in her baseline state, but more Iron Man powerful than Superman powerful. She just also has the ability to power up as the plot demands, if there's a sufficiently potent energy source available. So, great for fighting low tier cosmics, less useful for fighting the Hulk.

I think the "Superman" comparisons could also be about how their powers work. Supes and Carol have this inert, magical ability to fly. She doesn't need tech or a magical hammer to fly. The closest thing the MCU has to a Superman like character, right now is Vision. Seeing Vision fly in AOU just seemed so much more magical than watching Iron Man or Thor fly.

I think she's gotten another power upgrade, recently. Secret Wars kind of reset the whole Marvel universe, and Marvel would probably want to capitalize on this by making Carol a top-tier superhero. She's now in space punching asteroids, and she recently knocked the crap out of Thanos(albeit with help from other very powerful heroes).

I'm really interested to see if she's still just on Iron Man's level with the new Civil War 2 comic. Hopefully, this variant cover of Civil War 2 is a good indication of her current power level:

Winnick is unlikely now that she's signed up for the dark tower.

Dormer would be great but it would be interesting if she counts as a "big name" that was on the list liefeld saw if he was telling the truth

Yvonne I would go for her but the question is would Marvel actually reach out to her? Now that is the million dollar question because if DC snatches her up then it is back to the drawing board

So since Carol is definitely going to be appearing in Infinity War 1 now, they'll have to cast her soon. So anyone occupied around this time will likely be out of the running. I don't know offhand who that means it excludes.

Emily Blunt is busy these days or she will be soon enough same probably would go for Chastain too so both of these women would be out but as far as Charlize goes we'll see but then there are so many other front runners like Dormer, Witherspoon, Pike, Alice Eve, Strahovski, etc.

Yes but at the same time I can't see her leading The Avengers in Infinity War and why? Because not only would her character be relatively new to the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe but also she doesn't even have her own origin film well at least not yet so we don't really know Carol all that well on the big screen but also she is one of the more lesser known characters in the whole Marvel universe

The Russos have never said she will be leading the Avengers in Infinity War. Just that she will appear.

And Natalie Dormer looks too much like a villain with that twisted smirk of hers.

You don't even have to look very hard for tons of pictures on Google to see this. I'm not sure there is one picture of her where she looks heroic and charming like someone like Strahovski. Dormer would suit Moonstone, but not Carol. Otherwise if you get Dormer as Carol, do you have to get someone even more twisted and villainous than her for Moonstone or other female villains?

Strahovski as Carol and as Moonstone Dormer then that would be a perfect opposing pair but Moonstone she definitely needs to be the villain for the origin film
