Why do we still entertain the idea of psychics?

I use to have fun with friends back in high school. I would say I'm psychic and can heal you. I had a friend with a sprained wrist, so I told him to envision a white flame while hovering my hands above his wrist. Sure enough it worked as in I distracted him from the pain his wrist was causing. :whatever:

Oh no… Oh, this isn't good. I'm seeing… it's foggy…. I'm seeing the card of death in this thread's future….. this thread will get out of hand…. and then locked….. and every poster will have to sacrifice their first born….. no, forget the last part…..

I don't think they are needed anymore. Batman was given Robin as his psychic in order to appeal to a younger demographic. Bucky was Captain America's psychic. But at the end of the day these heroes can go into combat on their own, they don't need such plot contrivances. Besides, at this stage such contrivances are stale and predictable.

Quick... ThePhantasm is speaking in tongues... or something... Get help!!

The vast, vast majority of "psychics" are charlatans plain and simple. However, there have been genuine documented cases and experiments over the decades related to psychic or other supernatural phenomena, the results of which defy conventional explanation.

People who go to psychics and get their palms read or whatever might be idiots, but people who try to pretend they know everything about how the universe works are arrogant idiots.

1) Many, many citations needed. This sounds like pure ******** to me - when people say things like, "There have been many experiments," without citing a single published study, I tend to take umbrage.

2) Why has nobody cashed in on this, then?

I've known whenever someone close to me or one of my family members has died. I've even known the manner of death in some of those cases.

I don't know what to call it, but I know it's real.

And that doesn't include the other weird things that I won't get into, since I'm already going to get made fun of enough over this. :p

okay i am game...
cause there's the part in all of us that wants to believe that the Lochness monster,Bigfoot and some dude in the arctic with sweatshop elves making toys exist... but then you get the"Talk", that it's not some jolly obese guy but your parents giving you toys and the magic of the universe along with a small part of you dies!
people have to believe in something! even if its people who can talk to your dead dog from across the great void! and hey! as long as they aint bilking people outta their life's saving and give them a bit of hope then go for it!
Only if Harry Houdini, who loved his babe so much and promised if he could come back to try and no psychic could ever conjure him up...then i have to believe that psychics.(psychos is another matter!) but psychics aint real!

... just my 2 cents cause thats all i had after i paid a psychic to see who would win the NBA finals and lost!:cwink:

Psychic phenomena is real. I just think only a wildly small percentage of the population is able to substantially tap into it.

I was playing a guessing game of how many posts it would take before a guy like this showed up. I was off by 1.

No, it's not real. It's one of the few paranormal subjects that has been thoroughly and empirically studied. The result is ALWAYS the same: zip, nada, zilch.

Not true. The original studies that suggested a mild level of ESP in some individuals has since been thoroughly debunked and shown to be due to other unmeasured variables.

The rest is anecdote.

They did an episode of "Joe Rogan Questions Everything" on SyFy about this topic, they debunk everything and are skeptics so the entire episode was pretty interesting. Very weird results that back up the above posters' replies on some evidence.

I have watched that episode mike. it wasn't bad but Joe doesn't really do much besides say "wow".

I just think we should be living in a time where its not even considered to be possible. its child's play. it's fun for films but it has no place in real life.

I think there is something beyond simply the physical. But mind reading and fortune telling and all this? lol nope.

I misread the thread title and thought it was "physics" instead of "psychics" and I was about to go into a lengthy rant...

Well, would I have been an embarrassed bunny or what? :wow:

You would have been burned at the stake for such shenanigans not that long ago... :woot:

Or maybe you just spend an inordinate amount of time thinking/feeling/imagining how your family members will die:huh:

But since you brought it up and "it's real", please give us all the extraordinary examples.
And how you expressed this "knowledge" beforehand.
