Why I like the Avengers

I'm waiting for Sauron to gain scales and horns and junk. They really seem intent on turning him into a dragon rather than a pterodactyl-type of dude.

LMAO! Sauron..... gee.

I actually like the dragon thing more than a pterodactyl. I don't really have a problem with his breathing fire or anything. I just thought it was weird that somewhere along the line, someone decided to do a total 180 and make Sauron into a humanoid dragon instead of a humanoid pterodactyl.

By the time Busiek hit #17, his team had faced against the Squadron Supreme, Morgan LeFay and the Doomsday Man, amongst others. The New Avengers have fought ninjas.

they also fought all those people on the raft, the wrecker, sauron (as pointed out) and the void.

I know the point your making and i'm not trying to refute it per se but they've not only fought ninjas.

The fight with the escapees was largely off-panel. And you know you've got trouble when you need the entire team to take out the Wrecker and Sauron. The only notable one they fought was the Void, and that was including most of the other MU heroes.

Ok, I generalized comic book fans, which was wrong. But from what I've been seeing, I've seen a lot of fans hate everything that has been out in the market. And you guys generalized New Avenger fans.
you're generalization is not altogether incorrect, but you mean to generilize ONLINE comic fans, who are very vocal with their dislikes. But comic fans as a whole have no problem with New Avengers, as indicated by the sales numbers.

Personally, I'm ok with NA. It could be better, it could be worse. And it has been better, and worse. But you take the good with the bad. Many comics have been around for decades and their tone changes as the times change, and creators come and go. So a change comes along that you don't like. So? leave the book, there's dozens of other good books out their to check out, and if you're loyal, come back when another change is made. All comics are like this.

They didn't do too well against him anyway. It was the White Queen who pretty much won that fight inside the Sentry's head.

gonna start a "I don't Like" thread where folk can name books w/o explanation.

Meh, its to be expected. When you make a thread you can expect people to from arguments from both sides.

I have no problem debating,... but I usually do it on threads where debate was invited.

I'm grousing because I can't fault anybody having a favorite,.. unless it's the red skull,.... or the Sentry.

Outside of those two I won't come onto a thread and bash sumbodies fav book or comic character.

Thus, he shouldnt have made a thread in a public forum then. Any thread is inviting debate.

This thread invited debate more than most because the thread starter made sweeping generalizations about why all of NA's detractors don't like it. I'd take issue if a person not only lumps me in with everyone else who doesn't like something, but then basically tells me why I don't like it.

I dont think that's fair

I've loved the Avengers since I was 10 years old and I dont think NA is bad at all. ( I also think its temporary)

NA is just another phase in that long illustrious history you mentioned.

And while I readily admit that many people dont like it because they dont feel like its staying true to the team, to say that anyone who happens to be enjoying it doesnt know about the Avengers or their history is one heck of a generalization dont you think?

I agree. I like the New Avengers but have read the Avengers since 1966.

Do you guys need my help, or you pretty much got this?

Just know, I'm here if you need me. ;)

You're so right on it's scary.

I was turned onto the Avengers only after getting into Ultimates.

I started picking up NA with #7 and dropped it around #13 only because I had no interest in Spider-Woman.I recently picked it back up again with Collective and CW coming up.The potential is all there and Bendis has promised alot of good things to come such as a new Masters of Evil,Ultron,Kree,Skrull,Elektra and the Hand,Dr.Doom etc.

The only "old-school" Avengers comics I've read are the Stern era ones, most specifically Under Siege and Assault on Olympus. The Buscema art was great and the stories were so god damn epic.Stern's line-up has to be my favorite (Cap,Wasp,Hercules,Namor,Black Knight,She-Hulk,Monica Rambeau).

If you're open to suggestion, I HIGHLY recommend the Busiek Perez era, available in the Avengers Assemble vol 1 & 2 hardcovers. Probably the single greatest Avengers run

eh, just read Avengers vol 3 straight through, you'll get to Red Zone eventually
