Ummm, you guys do know that in Israel 2 yrs military service is mandatory, right? So it would be much harder to find an Israeli girl who hadn't served than one who did. And most women do end up with desk jobs. I know because my friend had one. But I suppose that was presumptuous, I looked it up and she did not have a desk job, here according to ABC:

"Gadot joined the Israeli Army at the age of 20 for her mandatory military service. Throughout her two-year term as a sports trainer in the Israel Defense Forces, she continued to work as a model."

but the point I was trying to make is that she wasn't some crazy fit special forces solider, just a regular Israeli girl. Its good she was a "sports trainer" because she's gonna have to call on that now, big time.

I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed on the weight issue. I just don't want the first female Superhero, an icon to girls and women alike to look like the typical Hollywood, model waif. That's just not the message that I want sent. Strong yet slim and healthy, that's what Wonder Woman should look like. People would complain if the character were 30 pounds overweight as well so I'm being fair.

Anyway I'm tired of the body convo so I'll move on to costumes or whatever. I still lean towards pants but I'm not opposed to a skirt.

If the costume and production design dept. pull their weight (as they did in MOS) then that will all add to our Israeli WW's on screen aura, even if she comes in thinner than some would like.

You have to basically assume they're going the 52 route for these movies like Marvel is taking some cues from Ultimate. New 52 WW is not built.

Ideally, I'd love if she could get to maybe somewhere around Linda Hamilton's size in T2, but I'm betting she'll end up being smaller than that.

Cliff Chiang draws her built. You haven't been reading her book?

A robust costume that looks like armor more than an outfit, would add a lot.

Hi!

Yes, that's actress Laura Benanti.

Gal will have access to a world class gym and the best nutritionists and trainers on the planet.

With enough time they can turn Gal into a bonafide Amazon.

And we still don't know if this is WW in costume, is it a cameo, is it an "undercover" Diana... Still a lot of unanswered question.

And depending on what her role will be in the Movie, they can still recast her, if they end up unhappy with her after all. Like if she only appears for a moment, and they drop "Oh, and this is Diana." and that's all it'll be, no one is gonna cry foul if they cast someone else after that.

They originally said Diana was to be a cameo.

Only now they're saying it's a bigger role

I don't know, I remember the role that Gal, Olga, and the other lady whose name I forgot were auditioning for being described as a "lead" role. Also, Snyder's comments don't strike me as him merely talking about a cameo, he's really hyping her up.

I think the "she's just a cameo" people are in denial, exactly. This role was being propped as a massive supporting at the least. Unless she's just that bad or something goes sideways with her contract, she will be WW in future films.

Hi!
I don't know what to make of it, and I'm not totally sure they're all the same person, but I think it is. The Wonder Woman-looking thing stands out of course, and I'm guessing by what's on it that its some kind of mockup ---but for what purpose? I'm most curious about who this actually is. She's striking, isn't Gal Gadot obviously, but does look like she could have been a contender at one point(?) but beyond that I can't place her.

So I'm tossing it open to everybody here -- Who might this be? Thoughts?

*the 2nd image is cropped, brightened and spun around off the 1st one to tease out some detail.

(Having said all of that, it's pretty clear that in Gal Gadot, this is not your father's --or your childhood WW. Safe to assume that they purposely decided to steer clear of someone who's too "Carter-like" in build or features? )

She looks like the actress, Laura Benanti, who was in "Meskada" and did a guest role in "Elementary".

:yay:Thanks, RedMask --

One other person I showed this to recently guessed the same, it's just that no other images I looked up matched these. But yes, think you're right. She's 33 or 34 from sources I get.

Turns out she was part of that Sound of Music special that aired just last night too, along with a number of other things film and stage.

And I have to agree with some of the other comments here I'm seeing...
A so-called "it" factor. One of the things that stands out about Gal Gadot is a lack of what I'd call "wisdom" about her look. Again, we all can agree she's attractive, but I don't get the same vibe off her that Lynda Carter gave off, even though she was between 25 and 30 during the TV series. You just got the sense that this woman had lived and seen ages go by -- as an Amazon would be expected to look. An actress like Benanti above for example, or any number of others listed in the original poll up top, have that look about them....Gal just doesn't -- she's almost too fresh, too nubile looking. To really capture WW, you need all those factors going all at once:
Look like you can kick butt, PLUS look like you've been at it a while, AND be almost mind-numbingly beautiful. And if you think about it, a ton of that rests not in the physique but actually in the eyes. Carter certainly had it --no two ways about it, even in her mid-twenties.

Now, you could argue the logic WB is using here is that we're going to see Diana in some kind of formative phase, rather than as an experienced, aged warrior. But if that's the case, then it might be tough to see her as any kind of equal to Affleck or Cavill; she could come off as too side-kicky.
Do you suppose that it was almost a requirement that who they chose had to have had some previous action role experience? If that's the case, a LOT of better choices might have gone by the wayside.

That's my analysis, and again nothing against Gal. I just fear she may do for Wonder Woman what Klinton Spillsbury did for the Lone Ranger. (look it up)

If you research the Isreali Defense Forces for which she was a member of then you would see they all receive combat training regardless of their job title/rank. The fighting style they train in is Krav Maga. Israeli krav maga was designed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to prepare its soldiers for hand-to-hand combat in the shortest possible time frame. The IDF has used krav maga as its official self-defense and hand-to-hand combat system since its inception in 1948. Military personnel are taught terminal force applications integrating personal, cold, and hot weapons. That isn't special forces but considering the average Isreali soldier is considered elite by world standards I think that gives her some inherent advantages.

krav maga. or, as I like to call it, Jew-jitsu. haha! or Jew-do? lol see what I did there?

Add maybe 20 pounds more muscle on her and she will make a good Wonder Woman. :P

No problemo.

I have no interest in seeing a rookie Wonder Woman. Obviously nobody saw this news coming, but those are some big shoes to fill.

Get her in this kind of shape, and we'll be set.

One could argue that in certain interpretations, Wonder Woman should retain a sense of innocence to her character despite the everything she has been through.

I still do not think that one can simply get a good sense of how she will be based on her previous roles in the Fast and Furious movies, nor what they see in interviews or photographs.

Gal reminds me of the actress Carole Bouquet, who was Melina Havelock in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, a role that I thought had some good qualities that could be shared with a movie version of Wonder Woman.

I really hope that this version of Diana, in the movie, has been in the world for quite some time and has developed a level of coldness to her outward personality. I feel like the more mystery that the character has surrounding her background, at this point at least, can add to the interest in the character.

Is there :ww: manip thread? If not, there should be.
