Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Here's the thing, the franchise only started again in 2011 after a lengthy gap after TLS. If the audience is bored already, something is wrong. A long break should not be needed a mere three movies into the rebirthed franchise.

That's because the new trilogy was ultimately a pointless one. It rehashed everything from the old trilogy (villains not withstanding although Stryker is here again) and took us back in time, only to undo everything. A pointless exercise.

They were handicapped by the timeline and the liberties they took only made things worst. Originally, the trilogy was supposed to end with DoFP to recon the events in TLS. They also wanted to show how the X-Men came together, since they were shafted in the OT.

What we got? A prequel in the 60's that not only didn't fit the continuity but didn't establish the X-Men we know and love. Really a pointless decent film.

They undid TLS, but not without consequences. It negated the OT while having no intentions to continue with the old cast. They just wanted a satisfying conclusion for those actors/characters by wiping out that timeline entirely.

Then we get the film of how the X-Men came together. Pretty average movie that was long overdue but poorly executed.

So long story short, we got a trilogy we never needed. Of course people are going to get bored.

The solution as I've laid out, take a breather. Five years preferably. Then make an X-Men movie that plays out like TAS, without being as comedic or light hearted as the MCU. That's the only rationale thing left to do.

Or Focus on other areas of the Universe, which is what they will probably do.

Deadpool 2
Gambit
X-Force
New Mutants

Begin to build past the current set of characters. I will also put these films into pre-production:

Star Jammers
Excalibur
Alpha Flight

X-Men Universe is more than just Wolverine, Cyclopes, Jean, Magneto, and Storm.

or use give X-men back to marvel so they can ruin X-men like spider-man with stark and others overshadowing X-men

say goodbye to drama, seriousness, and allegory things that made X-men unique.

underdevolped villains who crack jokes like whedon did with ultron.

all the moaning about wolverine and you do realize he would be back very quickly in a reboot.

every X title doesn't need it's own film.it delutes the X-men brand.

New mutants and X-force great.X-factor,Excalibur,and starjammers no.

There has been moaning about cyclops and storm not getting enough to do as some want them gone from films?

In comcis before marvel become MCU only spin-offs were never as popular as core X-Men titles.

I feel like they need to have gambit as Channing Tatum at least in two movies before a solo movie otherwise the film will fail box office wise imo

Bad because its different from the comics?

Bad cause it was bad. That Widow relationship was weird. Going against the books doesn't always work. See Deadpool.

The "this isn't the comics" argument is what got us the choices in Origins. Alot of times it's good to take why relationships and characters work in the comics and apply that to film.

I do! Hate to say I told you so but I said this thing would not make more than $600M WW. And it's not that I hate Fox or Xmen or anything like that. It's just this franchise almost seems stale and they have no sense of direction. None! I just wanted to tell him hi. :sly:

Trust me--his ass will be back. Trolls always hide under the bridge when it's raining. Us long-time board members are in full force here over the next few days but once the "sun" comes out he'll resurface Docker. Then you can go get him for all he's worth. :oldrazz:

I honestly don't want them taking a 4+ year break in between this film. All my favorite characters are apart of this team so I'd be miserable waiting even longer for a film to see them again. I think in 2-3 years they can get a new creative team and everything situated for the direction they want to tske. Anything longer than that would just be to much i need my Storm,Nightcrawler and Jean fix.

Gambit ain't coming next year unless they severely get a move on.

Just give us this on the big screen and take all our money.

Yes please.

This is true.

I don't think there is fatigue setting in for CBMs overall, but there is a definite "been there/done that" situation setting in with this franchise. I hate to say it but...this franchise is having a hard time keeping up with its competitors.

Yeah, it's bizarre. But not surprising. For all the soft reboots, and new casts, it's still 16 years old with just as many so-so entries as it has genuinely good ones. It just pales in comparison to what's being delivered elsewhere.

The worst thing is that on paper, X-Men has it all.

they can keep the young cast very easy, its just they need to add some kinda gimmick i guess at this point.

its one of the reasons why i felt they couldnt make phoenix saga into 2 parts because you can never be certain the story will hook the audience enough to see part 2.

I think NM & Deadpool dates will switch. I think X-Force for 2020

They are releasing two X-Films per year for the next two years, what do you think is going to be released in 2019?

One of those films have to be X-Force because that is everyone seems to be clamoring for. I don't know what the other film will be, probably another main X-Men team film.

Do you guys think there's a chance Fox blames the box office on the younger cast and they decide to bring back the older cast? I think they look at the box office of TLS and DoFP and see some familiar names and wonder if the new cast just didn't latch on with people.

X-Men has to come out eventually so either 2019 or 2020. The other date can be X-Force.

I feel you. But even I'm tired of getting hopes up/dashed over and over and over and over again. After Storm had little to do in DoFP I reasoned to myself "Well, XA will mark a new beginning with Storm--new actress, set in the 80s, Cairo, mohawk--we'll make up for it then." And no, I wasn't thrilled when they announced she'd be a horseman, but then I thought to myself, "Well, she'll get more focus this way instead of being lost in shuffle with Jean, Scott, Xavier, etc. But nope. She ended up being sidelined for the majority of the film in Magneto's shadow instead.

See, we continue to give FOX, Singer, Kinberg the benefit of the doubt. But all they do is trifle with our goodwill. And that's why they're getting this embarrassing $65 milliono opening. People are over it now. I'd rather them just take a minute and figure out what the hell they're doing.

X-force is coming in 2019.

it is always possable there will be only wolverine 2017 and gambit gets pushed back to june 2018 after deadpool sequel and both New mutants and X-force come out in 2019.NM in early part of year and X-force in July.

But realistically how many films can you get out of them. That's just pushing back the real problem for a couple years.

The young cast with a comic book competent director writer's and producer's can take the young cast into the next decade and beyond

Bad cause it was bad. That Widow relationship was weird. Going against the books doesn't always work. See Deadpool.

thing is the comics are right because they are the comics, the original source material, if the films do something different then it instantly gets compared to the comics and its then bad because its different.

And yes i know sometimes certain changes are bad like deadpool in origins but if that version of deadpool did appear in the comics it wouldn't be seen as bad because it was in the comics but because it wasn't... its an insult to the source material.

And also everyone has their own take on the source material, i mean i seen comments on twitter where people hate that storm is a thief in apocalypse and feels its an insult to the character because she is meant to be a "princess" or something to that degree so when it comes to the source material apparently people could argue all day about thats ok to do in live action and what isn't

Movie stars don't drive box office. Studies by economists observe they play little role in box office performance.

Also, in business you goal is a net profit not just a high gross. Movie stars raise costs.

Some straightforward facts belie the claim that star power was the thing that made the difference. Days of Future Past had an A Cinema Score rating compared to A- for XMA and B+ for XM:FC. So, people liked the movie better.

There was also the fact that it was an iconic story and the crossover element.

Also, I don't know it's factually correct that Marvel goes for big name stars. Sometimes they do. But, some of their cast members are people who are rising and promising but have yet to break out. Chris Pratt rose to the A-list *after* GOTG. Did you know who Tom Holland was before he was cast as Spider-Man? Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were not on the A-list before getting a Marvel gig. Was say Elizabeth Olsen really a household name before she was cast as Scarlett Witch. What about Chadwick Boseman? They were not huge celebrities when they got these roles.

I think star power helped DOFP, but it wasn't the singular factor that powered it over FC and XMA.
