They might get a chance to shine, but without Singer. Singer will just give the spotlight to Mystique and Magneto again if he has the chance.

Negates the purpose of this trilogy and even in this movie's conclusion to still focus on Mystique and Magneto. Even if she is somehow mentoring the X-Men rather than continuing her crusade to liberating mutants, really don't expect anything beyond glorified cameos. Magneto, like Tony Stark, will depend on what ticks him off because he could just as easily create Genosha now rather than start another war.

That's the point I was making. Some people don't want to go see an X-Men without Wolverine and some people don't want to go see a Wolverine movie without the X-Men.

But you just can't ignore the 2 X-Men movies that featured Wolverine the least are the 2 worst OW for an X-Men film.

then its certainly a weird balance because there is a large audience that doesn't wanna see wolverine in his own movies but the moment he is in a movie called "x-men" he is the main draw everyone rushes to see, and we are talking about the casual audience here.

its a weird thing i can't help but feel is flawed, deadpool has proven that if the character is a draw then people will see the movie.

it just makes the X-Men films feel even more diconnected with the audience to go by the idea a character needs others for that character to be a draw

Maybe, but Singer likes to fall back on his old habits, which is why his X-Men movies feel like a rehash of previous movies. I'll believe it when I see it.

There is a chance that Apocalypse might finish less domestically than Ant-man, a property Zack Snyder once proclaimed 'flavor of the week'.

Chance? It's almost a sure thing. DOFP multiplier was 2.2, and this is less well liked. Assuming 78 and a 1.9 multiplier, it comes to 148M. No way does it get more than Ant-Man.

General audiences ADORE Wolverine. So...It's a real shame that they failed to make a true break with First Class and tied Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in both DOFP and XA. I would love to see Tye, Sophie and Alexandra's characters interacting with a NEW Wolverine that has another 10-15 years in the actor. But casting Hugh in both films puts a ceiling on things and the actor is clearly ready to move on after 16 years. So now, it would be weird to bring in a younger Logan--especially since Jean, Scott and Kurt just met Hugh's version in XA.

I desperately want this franchise to be a billion dollar success. But I question if FOX does. Because this is what I'm talking about: they don't plan their s*** out. No thought is given to continuity or the future. Kinberg seems obsessed with force feeding whatever works for right now.

First Class had a decent roster of X-men (and brotherhood members) to build on, but Singer decided to kill most of them off screen.

I think if bryan had given the characters their comic book outfits early on it may have added more excitement to marketing, that and more action to show off, bryan always seemed to make it feel like he was teasing and just setting things up.

I want to see Singer's proposed X3 and how he incorporates Proteus in the next one, but neither of those is set in stone/happening any time soon.

Singer said he wants to make a Dark Phoenix Saga, but it will just invite more comparison with X3 and feels like a re-thread of an old idea. And I think the franchise needs a break from Singer if they want to go forward instead of backward.

Except in his X3, supposedly, Cyclops had a much larger role and they either teased going into space or actually went, again supposedly.

I'm surprised Wolverine's solo films don't do better numbers at the box office given how popular he is.

The third movie will probably get bump as if is Hugh's final appearance.

These kids of two young to handle the Phoenix. There are other guys you can tangle with well before. Proteus, Shadow King, Star Jammers, and Sinister of course. New director regardless.

I hope they do Phoenix Saga next but not Dark Phoenix yet. Start with Jean becoming Phoenix and only by the next movie Dark Phoenix. Don't try to do so much in just one movie.
X-Men 7 Phoenix (history of Phoenix, explaining being a comis entety when they thought it was a new mutantion for Jean) Jean starts to use her new power and exaust it to an extended that when she beats the villian of the movie it activate Dark Phoenix in her.
X-Men 8 Dark Phoenix - The x-men have to join forces with the brotherhood to defeat the Dark Phoenix.

Yeah, it was very short-sighted to say the least and a waste of several good characters and potential future storylines. Nothing edgy or "dark" about it, just a waste and done in a sad, discarding manner.

I can see that, and I think you are right...that could have added something.

For me and Singer, it's not a few big things he does to frustrate me on this franchise, it's several smaller things that added together are bothersome to me. I could take one or two, but he pulled several.

That said, my concerns are not new and it's just surprising to me that the critics turned on him as severely this year as they have. I don't see his films as "darker" as some have said but they always felt more like art-house films to me and I always felt they favored his style.

Back to box-office, how is this doing in Australia and the UK?

People said the kids were to young to handle apocalypse also, they made it work, its just expectations are always through the roof that a big bad should be the most powerful thing ever and the x-men should all be standing around taking pot shots at the villain in super expert mode

I think it has to do with the quality.

Origins opened big, but then dropped when everyone realized it was garbage.
The Wolverine was better but I think people still had the taste of Origins in their mouth.

Regardless, I don't want MCU or Disney touching the X-Men. I love the Fox movies more even with the few bombs Origins and Last Stand.

And i think Apocalypse is the best comic book movie of the year. So not everybody agrees that someone needs to be fired or it needs to be sold to disney.

good god this board sucks it is almost as bad as BVS board and filled with give it back to marvel posters

The R rating will get attention, even anyone who is tired of wolverine will probably look up out of pure curiosity to see the movie.

I actually think its a nice change of pace for the character. They can unleash Wolverine in a way without holding back. If this is to be his last go out with a bang.

I don't visit the MCU boards but i imagine they are far worse then here.

If Fox turns around, gets a new team and makes a good X-Men film, I'm happy.

If Fox for whatever reason made a deal with Feige and they made an X-Men film together and it was good, I would be happy.

Either way, I'm happy as long as the movie is good.

Exactly.
