I dunno if it has changed but last i read civil war didn't make as much as iron man 3 which you kinda wonder what happened there, I heard a theory BVS hurt the movie purely because they are both comic book movies and the casual audience don't see them as any different to each other

Overseas it is due to exchange rates. There was a story posted earlier this week that said at the same rates CW would be second only to AOU overseas.(among CBMs)

Yeah, people are fogetting that.
I mean, Captain America will make "only" around 1,1 billion and be the movie of the year until Star Wars comes out.
And people are saying MCU is in trouble  For Cap 3 not making more than Star Wars?
Hell, it will still most likely end as the second highest grossing movie for the year. Unless something unexpected surpass it (like Suicide Squad)

It was also released under the name 'Captain America', which will reduce how much money it'll make in certain territories. It's trivial but true.

If it was Avengers: Civil War, we'd be looking at AoU numbers.

I can't see why that would make a different, anyone who has seen this movie will have watched the trailer and it defo wasn't marketed like it was a captain america movie

I also think that, despite what we all may think, Civil War was never going to be as appealing as the other movies, because not everyone likes heroes fighting. I know people who weren't looking forward to CW because they didn't care about heroes vs heroes. I know people who've come out of CW and didn't like the fact it was heroes vs heroes. It's an appealing concept, but not to everyone.

That's the problem. It's doing fine....not EXTRAORDINARY.

It's going to get beat by Deadpool, which featured an X-Man audiences previously knew nothing about but got more characterization than 90% of the main roster.

Fine is not good enough.

I would add the proviso, that its doing fine *only* if the more recent budget statement of 175M is accurate. If that turns out to be false, and the budget is more like DOFP. . . they would be in a lot of trouble. Which just goes to show the power of proper budgeting.

Apocalypse on friday fell to third with 6 million.it hit 100 Million domesticly yesterday. It has hit 291 million world wide.it's overseas money is 190 million.
It will pass by end of weekend X-men's WW gross.

A lot of my friends and especially the older guys never watch movie trailers (except when they are watching other films at the cinema).

And America is not all that popular in a lot of other countries. I guess you know Cap films remove reference to Cap in Germany for eg. The title of CW there is The First Avenger: Civil War.

so there are actually people who see the movie just for the name?

That would be like taking someone with a broken arm and injecting them with the plague.

For the first Captain America movie, Marvel had to release it as The First Avenger and avoid the name "America" in the title. In some parts around the world, America carries a negative imagery rather than a positive one. I think the success of MCU and the popularity of the character Captain America has helped a lot since then, but Avengers will always sell a movie better by comparison.

No but people are put off by certain names. It's not common but Captain America is one of those cases. I don't know if you followed the build up to the first film but this was a big issue when they were deciding how to market this film abroad (would obviously always have been fine domestically). Think of how X-men would be seen if they were called US Freedom Fighters. The name isn't totally irrelevant especially when it refers to a real world country which automatically makes it a little political in some territories.

Friday estimate:

1 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Par. $12,500,000
2 Me Before You WB $7,750,000
3 X-Men: Apocalypse Fox $6,550,000

Yup, same here.
"First Avenger: Heroes War" is titled in my country.

Indeed.
Oh they changed the subtitle too?! Which country is this?

What were the weekend predictions for Apocalypse?

Bulgaria.
They don't get much money out of us, haha.

But yeah, it's called:

Първият Отмъстител: Войната на героите
"The First Avenger: Heroes War".

P.S: I think Spidey is the most recognized hero in here. But I don't think a lot of people even knew he was in the movie.
The most promoted poster for the movie (and I think the only one translated to bulgarian language) was the one Cap and IM head to head close up. Only the two of them.

Oh nice. I love the look of your alphabet haha.

How popular is X-Men there compared to other CBMs?

I've never even heard of Me Before You.

I had to look it up. Surprised I hadn't heard of it even if only in box office speculation.

Domestic is collapsing if that's true. It's going to have to work to meet FC.

But good news is estimates have it opening north of 60m in China (DOFP opened with 39m).

I've never even heard of Me Before You.

Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones is the female lead in this movie that is based on a best selling romantic novel. Losing to it on XMA's second week is not a good news.
