I think the technical proficiency of the MCU movies is indisputable. They are controlled in such a way that they are consistently high quality.

But there's always something about them that's very... blah for me. The only one that comes even close to move me emotionally is Winter Soldier, and the one that was truly quite different was GotG (though i didn't like the humor). It's strange, i watched every single one in theatres wanting to love them, but I just can't.

Doesn't help that being a fan of Whedon's work from way back with Buffy and Angel, I think I've reached my limit with Whedony humor and one liners that I now just cringe through most of the movies.

We need a director with good imaginations.

I'm really longing to watch the movie again but it's just expensive to buy a ticket. When is the dvd going to be released?

what a ridiculous statement!

Marvel did only 3 great movies in 8 years...why should they be successful with the X-Men franchise?

Let's see Iron Man 1, The Avengers, Captain America Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain America Civil War
I count five really Amazing comic book films plus their were many others that were also good.

For me only XDoFP movie was successful cos its gross reached more than $700 million.

The movie should reach $300 million tomorrow.

Age of ultron is why I don't want whedon anywhere near X-men films. However i find it very unlikely whedon would ever work for fox.and then there is issue of
him possibly wouldn't be allowed to write script.

now if you want action sequenzes like CGI video games.or plenty of cheesy humor and a lot less drama.and crazy romantic parings then whedon is your
guy.

I'm not doubting Avatar 2 at all. I can see maybe it being a disappointment domestically (although probably not), but it is going to explode overseas.

Eh, I see it doing less than the first overseas too if the dollar is as strong or stronger than it is right now. That story when XMA first opened noted that it would have started higher then DOFP but it lost 15% due to exchange rates.

Avatar opened when the US economy was considerably weaker than 2014 and it made 3 billion overseas. It is a good bet that even if Avatar2 sells the same tickets overseas exchange rate will knock off at least 25% or $500 million, can you say ouch?

I would like to see someone figure out just what Avatar would have made with today's exchange rates and that would give a much better idea about the next one.

Don't forget about obligatory pointless death scene of a character with no development.

I have yet to see Apocalypse (do plan to watch it), but I get the feeling they (1) rushed through the film and (2) gave too heavy a turn into fantasy realm rather than sci-fi realm. I feel X-Men could explore more high-tech & science rather than pull up random plot devices (Kitty Pryde's time travel, a mythical, godly character whose motivations, from what I hear, aren't understood) to set up a story/tie in stories.

I do feel Singer's first two x-films were headed the right way. I hope they find the right way to go (it certainly wouldn't be going back to the first two or continuing the prequels in the same vein/formulas). And I don't think Singer's the issue, for the record, but they do need some fresh ideas.

Fox has zero great movies and at least 5 absolutely horrid ones. Fox is yet to hit the nail on the head. Everything they have made has been a disappointment in one way or another, and they have yet to make a single movie which brings the powers of the characters to screen correctly or to scale. Marvel has the character powers down perfectly. This one fact is enough of a reason to never want to see another Marvel story wasted by Fox.

I will agree with your angle here. The movies aren't that moving, but they are fun actioned packed and exciting. Fox movies are more moving, but the action scenes are awful and gimmicky 99% of the time. Although Civil war moved me and I think better writing is an easier fix than getting the action scenes right since the X-men franchise has failed on every single occasion in that department.

According to Forbes, this has dropped 75% and just earned $6.55M on its second Friday. Does this even have a chance of reaching $500M?

The movie underperforming may be better in the long run if it triggers the creative shakeup that the franchise has been needing for quite sometime now.

Yes, I'm hoping for a colossal fail in box office. Marvel would make this series unbelievable.

You've hit it on the nail here. I generally don't consume entertainment for action, so the MCU movies fail to move me and I gloss over the subpar action in X-Men. I'm still waiting for a 'Man sends bullet into best friend's spine' or a 'Killer drops a gun and chooses compassion over vengeance' moment. Civil War comes closest, but it is unfortunate that I usually just find Tony annoying and the movie I feel takes great pains to assure us that the rift is not permanent.

no it's not good for franchise at all it underperformed. We had chance of doing more faithful version of phoenix and dark phoenix.that may be out the window now.and budgets for films is going to be droped.Kinberg isn't going anywhere.

Yeah. It is sounding like it could be opening bigger than BvS in China (they almost make it sound like it could open bigger in China than in the US). Even in a case where Warcraft creates similar drops to BvS (which absolutely collapsed in China), we could still be seeing close to an extra $30 mil in China. We should be pretty close to $400 after the weekend. But we will see if the reports I'm seeing are true and how it is holding up in other territories.

I also think that, despite what we all may think, Civil War was never going to be as appealing as the other movies, because not everyone likes heroes fighting. I know people who weren't looking forward to CW because they didn't care about heroes vs heroes. I know people who've come out of CW and didn't like the fact it was heroes vs heroes. It's an appealing concept, but not to everyone.

Hero vs hero is only appealing to most (NOT ALL) people when the conflict between the heroes is either completely or partially resolved and they all unite to fight a common foe. So I think that those who hated the hero vs hero plot in CW MIGHT have enjoyed the movie more if the Cap/Bucky vs Iron Man fight was not the final major fight scene of he movie and didn't end with the heroes not resolving their differences and uniting to fight a common foe.

A lot of my friends and especially the older guys never watch movie trailers (except when they are watching other films at the cinema).

And America is not all that popular in a lot of other countries. I guess you know Cap films remove reference to Cap in Germany for eg. The title of CW there is The First Avenger: Civil War.

I'm going to be that proud American guy and say SCREW THOSE OTHER COUNTRIES WHO HATE US. If they don't like America, then don't watch a movie featuring a lead character named "Captain America" and don't ask us for help when they need their butts bailed out of a jam.
