Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 4

Obviously telling good stories is the first priority. Transformers aside, many billion dollar grossing films are of high quality.

I don't think I claimed that X-Films could make billions in an instant. There needs to be a certain amount of good will built up before that can happen, as the MCU and Dark Knight films have shown.

There are franchises with billion dollars that tell great stories. But, some stories are a bit too out there to be prime candidates for a billion dollars.
It also seems to depend on tapping the zeitgeist.

I guess I just want to enjoy the movies, have them do well, and get good reviews.

That's a false statement. The success of TWS and CW have a lot to do with the Russo Bros. and the writers. If what you said is right, then there won't be any movie like TDW and IM2, two of the movies that didn't do well in MCU critically. Basically every director is hired to "take order" right?

Yes.

Exactly. The X-Men series is the single longest running CBM series at this time. Yet for all the time we've had these films we still don't know 75% of the X-Men. Case in point:

How many times has Magneto's concentration camp origin story been referenced and featured in the X-Men films?

1.) X-Men (2000)
2.) X2-X-Men United (2003)
3.) X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
4.) X-Men: First Class (2011)
5.) X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

He was separated from his parents in the Nazi camps and he tore up the gate in rage. Flash back city galore. WE GET IT.

Now, tell me, what happened to Storm's parents? :whatever:

There are a lot of X-Men characters...

They're "point and shoot" guys. Journeymen who were hired to take orders from Feige.

First of all, Bryan Singer is also a point and shoot journeyman.

Second of all, The Russos heavily retooled Cap America 2 when they came in from its original conception.

They pitched Civil War to feige when Feige had no plans for Civil War.

So you are grossly misinformed.

I find that very hard to believe.

Not to mention the Russos, Gunn and Derrickson are all in the cahoots and helped each other out getting their respective jobs because they know they're fans. (Or maybe it was just Gunn and Derrickson? Can't recall that interview) I wouldn't consider any of them as well as Ryan Coogler as journeymen.

The Russos were the ones who wanted to deconstruct Captain America, they're fans of the character first and foremost. That's what got them the job in the first place and that's why they've been so wildly successful. The past two films have been nothing but passion projects for them.

Certainly not.

Bryan Singer is the frigging poster child for bland, point and shoot, journeyman.

I think the Russos knocked over Serpico's soda can or something. Must have been during a shakycam sequence.

All I'm saying is Kevin Feige is the true visionary behind Marvel Studios. The directors are hired to execute his vision. That's all.

We've known this for awhile though. Still nice of him to reaffirm things I suppose.

Ya'll better hope 20,000 Under the Sea is a hit and spawns a franchise, because if it goes the way of Jack the Giant Slayer, Singer will crawl back to X-men again.

I have a feeling that 20,000 Leagues under the Sea will do as well as Jack the Giant Slayer. I don't think any movie that is based on classic literature has done well recently.
