Difference being that Disney is done making Alice films for the foreseeable future. FOX doesn't have that option. The studio has to get back on that horse and hope the disappointing response to Apocalypse doesn't linger on the follow up.

Does Deadpool count as releasing an X-Men movie?

Kinberg in the podcast interview when asked about

the death of havok he said the character was killed for the sake of cyclops origin story, to give cyclops a tragic event in his life and kinberg jokingly said to lucas till hey it could be worse we killed the other guys off screen

It is because of stupid crap like that why Kimberg and Singer (who is leaving the franchise) shouldn't be working on the X-MEN movies. Cyclops already had a couple of tragic events in his life.

So would this film have a 2.3 multiplier or higher or lower?

I was expecting so much more when he manifested his powers.... he didn't STRUGGLE at all! Like he adjusted to being a mutant quite easily like having those energy blasts coming out of his eyes non-stop, I thought there would be more to that like I expected something more personal but no nothing from that life changing experience and it took like 1 day for Beast to give him those glasses and after that, mutant problem solved.

Point being, if this movie do at least the same money that First Class did, we are still good for a sequel.

And would they really keep doing that again?.... this was the First Class' cast shot to transcend to the masses without the appearance of the original cast or at least The Wolverine in the marketing (well excluding the final trailer)... and they couldn't even outgross the opening weekend of X2 (which came out more than 10 years ago) or that Wolverine movie that got more terrible reviews and was leaked everywhere 1 month before its release. Time for Fox to reevaluate things!

Don't tell me, they are gonna have the new cast have a cross-over with another cast for their second film (similar to DOFP) just to grab people's interest to watch the movie because they can't headline a movie on their own. Then after the cross-over film, the new cast loses the momentum at the box-office again.

i really liked this movie so kinda bummed it did thor 1 levels of OW for such a long lasting franchise

i really put the blame on the marketing the trailers for this film were just okay at best and by far the weakest trailers of the 6 super hero films of 2016

So? I really don't think we need to see every mutant struggle with their power. We already get the Beast/Mystique issue and then we got Jean adjusting to her power and not being able to control it. And Scott did say it seemed like a curse but his is at least can still see with the glasses on so his mutant power isn't as much of an issue as someone like Nightcrawler, Angel or Jean. Who can't control what she hears just like the Professor until she learns to master it properly.

From what I read for retaining X-rights, no. Deadpool helps keep Deadpool.

But Deadpool also has Colossus, NTW, Cable and Domino. If not more. He features quite a bit of X-Men and X-Force characters. Don't see how that can be ignored in the rights.

If it was only Deadpool exclusive characters that makes sense, but Cable and Deadpool should be an IP alone based on the source right?

I think the bar was set way too high with DOFP. That story was epic, unique, fresh, dramatic,... while XA was quite generic, bombastic and simple in comparison. Nowadays that's just not enough.

I kinda respect that they wanted to try the big disaster type of movie and I really enjoyed XA (especially all the performances), but next time they should do something different.

The promo's were fine and very visible.

It's true ^ DoFP was fresh and unique. No comic book adaptation has touched time travel. Even a lot of movies haven't really gone down that path besides like Terminator and the new Star Treks. So it was very fresh and exciting. That's why it worked. Yeah Apocalypse was a pretty simple plot and outcome. Good guys v bad guys. That's not so bad especially because it's also something we haven't seen too much in X-Men. The motivations and character depths are what was overly repetitive as well as silly writing decisions that overshadowed an otherwise fun and awesome movie. It has its weaknesses but it also has some pretty cool bits too.

The film was written poorly with a terrible narrative and it made the same mistakes as the previous installments by wasting characters. DOFP messed up too on levels, but had a strong narrative. They just can't do that anymore.

Much like the character, Wade's rights situation is a bit odd. It's sorta/kinda like the Hulk and Spidey situations in which the solo rights are handled differently than group projects. It appears as though Marvel allowed FOX to bundle the character with the X-Men character rights, but his solo rights are on a separate deal that is more favorable to the Mouse than the original 1993 X-Men contract.

"Until" so they got the rights now. :)

But that doesn't mean that a Deadpool film counts as an X-Men film for keeping the rights active. Deadpool is under his own rights agreement with a different terms, for example Marvel get a larger cut of the takings from Deadpool than they do from the X-Men.

Hmmm... Ok. I'm not sure about that.

Can you give me a link to confirm what you said?

Here's a couple of links regarding Wade's odd arrangement:

In any case, the continuance of the X-Men contract is not contingent on Wade as the New Mutants rights ARE part of the initial 1993 agreement. The film is listed as X-Men: The New Mutants in IMDB and will reset the X-Men cinematic rights clock.

They clearly worked out a deal to allow him with X-men. So, who really knows if it resets the clock or not.

Deadpool was bought at different time.however since deadpool featured
characters bought when fox bought X-men.Fox basicly secured rights to most of mutants of marvel universe.that is why rights to quicksilver and scarlet witch are split.Colossus,Angel Dust, and NTW are part of X-men rights.

Cable was also separate at one point as well.

Needless to say, Marvel made some weird deals in the 90s.
