To a much lesser (?) extent Bradley Cooper and Diesel (American Sniper and Fast Franchise) could be said to be but:

(1) they didn't have to remind us "Bradley Cooper is in our movie!!!" "Vin is in our movie!!!"
(2) they didn't write their movie around so said character could have as much face time as possible.
I'd say the most obvious consideration there was that Cooper and Diesel were playing CGI characters and Diesel, in particular, just said "I am Groot" over and over again. Not really much you can do with that to hype star power.

They also didn't make Rocket Racoon "resemble" (facially) Bradley Cooper. While Mystique even in blue form is recognizeably Jennifer Lawrence, they've toned down the scales from the first three films.

The MTV Awards presentation with Ellen Page was really awkward... lol

So awkward, I wanted to push her off stage... for her own benefit. They should've just got Sophie Turner drunk and asked her to present this year for X-Men, she'd say some hilarious stuff. Buzzfeed would then make four different (four of the same moronic) posts about it and it'd be huge marketing.

GOTG had the benefit of the Marvel brand name, especially in light of Avengers. Could be another consideration.

She looked too serious and a bit nervous.

But at least there was a promo. The clip was very nice too.

I can't believe we still haven't gotten a clip from the film at this point.:hmr:

Haha wow, you're not really comparing Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique to two voice actors? You can't tell me the marketing wouldn't have focused on Bradley Cooper if he was playing Star Lord. And Vin Diesel isn't even a selling point. Every movie he has been in has bombed, outside of the Fast & Furious movies.

Then this goes back to Mystique looking like JLaw in DOFP and now in Apocalypse after her awkward and badly-acted mutant and proud moment in FC.

And now we're just going around in circles.

So awkward, I wanted to push her off stage... for her own benefit.

Hahahha

How about Natalie Portman? I mean she was big when Thor was about to come out because of her Oscar win and I didn't feel too much Natalie Portman in the movie's marketing and that was Pre-Avengers.

The buzz generated around this trailer feels non-existent. No leak. No trailer description. Everyone has already moved on. Just release the damned thing.

Portman's never really been an audience-drawing face of a franchise the way Jennifer was with Hunger Games.

I was hoping for a leak or full trailer description, but the excitement will pick back up once the trailer is released in certain.

But she was popular at the time and Black Swan was successful.

The thing is they didn't seem to shove her into the spotlight over an unknown Chris Hemsworth to market the film.

Portman was in marketing for thor, only thing is that thor was the lead hero while with X-Men its an assemble of super heroes and there has been plenty of marketing that didn't feature j law but when it does feature her thats when everyone starts talking about how fox are up j laws butt rather then the fact that raven/mystique is an important character in this movie on her own right

Like ..'beating a dead horse'. No buzz about it outside of this forum and those 6 tweets.

The trailer release strategy for this film has just been bizarre.

I don't think people are grasping how exceptional Jennifer Lawrence is. She is *the* Hollywood star right now. Having box office potential attached to your name is incredibly rare, but Jennifer has that. Fox is beyond lucky they got her before she blew up. Now they can use her debris to add extra dollars to the box office, which is the only we we're going to get more movies. That being said, I don't know how much more J-Law complaining I can handle. She's playing a major character. Nothing is going to change that.

Let's not go overboard lol she hasn't been exceptional iMo in this franchise as she has her other movies it as I said time again this one so far does look promising being that she isn't doing the HG blockbuster or many other films.

The thing that I've read that excites me the most about the new trailer is more Quicksilver, specifically that it goes over that Magneto is his father. I'm curious how they will show that.

At this point, I think Evan Peters could star in his own Quicksilver movie. Ideally, the movie would be called something like Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch and we'd get Wanda introduced into the X-Men series.

She's exceptional in that people see the movies she is in. Even her Oscar bait movies get more attention than they would staring anyone else. This is rare. I can't think of many actors who have a box office that follows them. Look at what happened to Johnny Depp. People brought up Bradley Cooper earlier in this thread but even he's not on her level.

The Hunger Games performed big because it already had a fan base, even if Katniss was played by Shailene Woodley, it would have still opened big. While American Hustler/Silver Lining Playbook were Oscar nominated films, got a lot of buzz from critics and those definitely helped the film at the box-office. So it was not just all Jennifer Lawrence.

As of now, I don't think Jennifer Lawrence had a sleeper hit, like a movie that just came out of nowhere and performed really big, well maybe Silver Lining Playbook but like I said, Oscar buzz. Joy performed okay. Her horror flick didn't perform that well.
