They did well with that EW spread (no Ivan Ooze mess), and they've controlled what gets released from the movie, so I think they'll do well with the trailer. Every trailer of Apocalypse had those obvious video-gamey green screen backgrounds in the Egypt scenes (and the end product wasn't much better, they just put a yellow tint over it) -- they won't let that happen again I think.

Hopefully the X-Men have actual lines in the trailer making it seem that they are the leads, and not characters that arent the X-Men

Hopefully not. It was pretty bad. To be honest though too many movies are looking video game-y (I'm looking at you IW last trailer). Hopefully all studios start making more practical FX. Apocalypse was by far the worst in recent history though.

Fox would loooooooooove to get a piece of Avengers audience, they love superheroes, so a lot of them could love X-Men too if Fox did their job well.

Marvel would loooooooooove to get a piece of X-Men audience, they love superheroes, so a lot of them could love Avengers too if Marvel did their job well.

They already have all of the X-men audience. Fox doesn't have even a third of the MCU audience.

yeah, Marvel would love their Avengers movies to do just 250m worldwide. you know, half the X-Men Apocalypse boxoffice :funny:
some fans...... lol

these box office debates to me are meaningless
I think it has created this desire that x-men have the same results as avengers to be seen as a success, but probably they will never have even if they are made by the marvel itself, the x-men never had audience for this, and were never seen as a "family movie", a franchise does not need an oscar, or 1 billion to be seen as something classic or a hit.

Let's return to the topic of "dark phoenix" :cwink:

Nah. Deadpool, Iron Man, Black Panther, Guardians, Wonder Woman etc have all broke records. And nobody predicted they could do so.

X-Men can hit these numbers. I don't get the downplaying on the potential here. They need the right film, like it or not the creatives with X-Men just have not hit the right chord with the majority of audiences. It's not just a Marvel Studio thing. It's a make the right film thing.

...and yes those movies all made money cause they were excellent and brought something new/fresh.

The Avengers is not Transformers. And their success is not only Box Office. So this debate isn't a simple pissing contest of who has the biggest Box Office.

The X-Men has always been massively popular and adored. Much more than The Avengers ever were. And the Avengers movies are highly successful overall (critically, Box Office hit, the fans love, the general audience love too, as a cultural icon, etc).

So this debate comes from the feeling that the X-Men could be even better or at least as successful as the Avengers are now. That mixed with all the frustration of FOX never really reaching all the potential of the X-Men, just scratching the surface. Not to mention the lack of consistency, having good movies followed by some of the worst CBMs ever.

I'm not going to name movie names so I do not turn the topic into an eternal debate.
but all those you quoted had some news
is a female protagonist, a black protagonist, a film all made in space,a comedy movie without rules and etc, this calls the public's attention.

and I do not see what else the x-men franchise can use to be seen as a "novelty", and we're talking about an "old" franchise is not something new that can be shown to the public as a novelty.
so I doubt very much that she will one day get a 1 billion box office, and not always some movies make big box office for being really good, in history we have horrible movies with big box office and good movies that does not come close to that.

But I hope you're right.

In my opinion, it's fairly simple. It's the characters. All those films rely on making sure their characters are handled well and fully execute why they have been loved all these years.

When Logan is in top form he makes more money. Likewise with the X-Men. There are so many different themes and characters to explore in X-Men that the possibilities are endless. If they make a team X-Men film that can really bank on why these characters have been loved while hitting the allegories and the spectacle in a different way...then I think you will see that success. Doesn't matter if it's Fox or Marvel.

When this franchise hits all the notes they should on Storm, Rogue, Cyclops, Jean, Emma, Iceman, Kitty etc in a top notch flick and it still can't make that kind of money...then I'll be convinced. But they have not done that yet.

Well, the novelty here couldn't be more obvious. Just hope they don't market "Jean Grey is the star of the show" in a way that drive folks away.

Maybe now Simon wants to bring something new to try and win audiences
with something dramatic and using a bit of something spatial, but that too is not something new(it's a novelty only in the franchise) , is not a noveltyin in comic movies, but I want to see the result.

There is no star when it's the XMen. It's always been an ensemble showcase. They need to stop trying to front particular characters (Magneto, Prof. X, Wolverine, Mystique) and focus on everyone else with a proper balance.

Of course there is. Just like there is in the comics. You just can't shove the rest of the characters in the background or give them nothing to do.

For example Nightcrawler isn't the star of X-Men 2 but he easily steals every scene he is in and is handled perfectly.

I think with X-Men it's pretty obvious Jean and Cyc should be getting top billing. Otherwise I'd say Wolverine and Storm. With X-Force it should be Cable (Or Logan) and so on...

Hoping Archangel finally gets his due in X-Factor. I really want Warren to shine, he gets the shaft too often.

Cable is gonna rip in Deadpool first before he can dominate in X-Force.

Although the film is about jean grey
I hope they are smart enough to enhance the team in film and marketing
I think what people least want again, and team movie of a single character.

I doubt that would drive people away (unless Sophie's acting isn't good)... Dark Phoenix is a known thing so people won't whine too much about her taking the spotlight.

If anything would drive people away it's too much JLaw :oldrazz:

There are plenty of ways to make "girl power" cringy especially for a 90s themed movie.
