Shes a super-minor character. The characters name is actually Yukio, an assassin but whos an adult assassin, so we just aged her down. Shes such a minor character, we thought we could pretty much get away with anything.
Wernick said, Fox has a bible of all 400-plus characters that they have rights to. We generally, when were building out a movie, look at that list, and kind of go through and go, Oh yeah, yes, yes, no, love that name, oh those powers are cool, and we build that cast that way. Yukio jumped out at us as just a character we would love to see further explored.

I would hardly call her a "super-minor character" she was a big part of the original classic Claremont/Miller Wolverine limited series, and she was the one who inspired Storm to get a Mohawk.
So human in the comics yet Fox have given her a different Mutant power set in each of her film appearances.

Its a funny, messy story of how so often these things are not as coordinated as everyone thinks. I actually had written him into our movie, and they didnt know [he was] in Apocalypse, and then they kind of wrote it in their movie, and they cast someone in their movie and I had not seen it and was working away on mine.

Again, you're not wrong. That quote is entirely accurate, especially about Fox. With that said, we also got under Fox and in that "miscommunication," Logan, one of the finest superhero movies ever made and the first one nominated for a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.
Honestly, I feel like fandom sometimes misses the forest for the trees.
Yukio should have been Noriko (Surge). Surge is Japanese teenage mutant with blue hair and electricity powers (sound familiar?). It would have been a great opportunity to give an Academy X kid some publicity.
I loved DP2 btw

Honestly, I feel like the X-fandom has lost the ability to like anything until the merger happens.
Then block people? The Mods have, time and again, told us here to put people on IGNORE. If negative posts bother certain people so much, do what the MODS have instructed ALL of us to do.
Thats not my own made up rule. I do whatever I want to do with MY OWN FREE TIME. If you are easily annoyed from reading what other people post on a message board, then sorry I cant help you.
Sometimes this idiotic decision-making works out okay but many times it doesn't.
.
That quote makes the film-makers/studio look clueless and amateurish. What Wernick said is nothing for anyone to be proud of. It's pretty shocking really. Such a poor knowledge of the source material!
Sometimes this idiotic decision-making works out okay but many times it doesn't.
It explains why the timeline and continuity are so messy; the repeated characters, WTF character deaths and the changes to characters' powers - and why people are increasingly fed up with it.
Most people love X2 and DoFP.
I can also find things I like in X-Men: Apocalypse and X3, but overall there is the sense of a studio not really immersed in the material and with only the most superficial knowledge of it. That's not good.
Fox makes these poor decisions and mistakes over and over, and the X-Men really do need to be in better hands.
We all thought the timeline reset of DoFP would see a better approach but then we got X-Men Apocalypse right afterwards showing nothing had really changed at all.
That wasn't my point. But fine, I'll leave it be.

I hope it's a fake. Taron Egerton is the new Wolverine <3

Funny you bring up wonky Wolverine timeline.. the writers of Deadpool 2 just confirmed the Yukio from DP2 is the Yukio from the comics, aka Yukio from The Wolverine.. I'm pretty sure they're unaware she already made her movie debut, as they claimed she did in DP2 .. jesus christ..
What the X-VERSE does has resulted in what many people feel are quality films.
7 FOX movies well received. X1,X2,FC,DOFP,Logan,Deadpool,Deadpool 2
X3,Origins and apocalypse falling under that. The Wolverine i ain't sure about but it doesn't often get all that highly rated.

The Wolverine was received well enough that it doesnt get mentioned alongside Origins, Last Stand or Apocalypse. What the X-VERSE does has resulted in what many people feel are quality films.
