Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - Part 14

Well, considering absolutely everyone has been using Reddit as a source here, why not?

If the Hellfire Club is in the movie, then Psylocke replaces Emma Frost's role in the comic.

The idea’s kind of neat. What if Erik is the head of it, too, fulfilling his dark desinty from the end of First Class? Genosha could just be the new location for the club. It probably won’t happen, but I wouldn’t mind it.

It's fairly obvious The Sun combined the scant details we have from the production, with the comic book synopsis.

Well yeah (most likely yes) but we're just speculating as they may be privy to something we aren't. Not like we haven't discussed rumors with no basis in fact before.

Indeed. It's going to get a lot more fun when we eventually get that trailer. I like speculating, but this has been going on for so long.

The Sun is not known for its accuracy, lol... unless they've been fed some info (which is possible, given they are the biggest online news site and top-selling physical newspaper in the UK).

If this is true, I could throw out some speculation that these reshoots are substantially changing the movie by adding in the Hellfire Club and turning Chastain's character into something other than Veranke or Lilandra, such as Lady Mastermind, Miss Sinister, Cassandra Nova, Selene or even Emma Frost.

There have been whispers for a while that Chastain's character is being completely changed, meaning all her scenes and all her dialogue need to be reshot.

Are we using the Sun now as the source? If the Hellfire Club is in the film, then they kept it hidden for a long time.

the Hellfire was in early versions of the script, at least in one of the different scripts Kingerg had, but.... later in pre-production, he cut them (Emma included).

They even put out casting calls for them at one point. Remember those early casting sheets where the characters sounded like the Hellfire Club (Harry Leland and others)....

Doubling down on Psylocke as a villain...

From the sounds of the leaks/rumours Mystique's not only usurping the leader role, she's also the maternal/voice-of-reason of the team.

I wonder what role will be left for Ororo?

Didn't you guys make fun of Frankeh for posting that first Reddit spoiler a few months ago? It's only par for the course that we're questioning someone posting obviously wrong info from a very questionable tabloid source.

Interesting that its likely to be dialogue scenes when other reports have said these reshoots are because of third act problems and having to redo major visuals and background sets like Justice League. Some even suggested that the aliens would be completely redone so they don't look like Skrulls on request from Marvel Studios lol.
Justice League reshoots cost well over 20 million and shot for two full months. This is nothing like that. I doubt Disney would have any direct say in anything related to the film. The movie completed shooting before the acquisition was even announced. The acquisition deal would likely influence future films not in development however.

Second, there was never any official statement or anything in any of the synopsis/press release so far that claimed the aliens were Skrulls. That was simply rumors. People were basing it on Chastain's character described as a shapeshifter or speculated test screening leaks, but visual effects were nowhere near complete at that stage. One person describe being told many actors were still in mo-cap suits. So there's no telling what the actual finished render of the aliens will look like. The synopsis never claimed Chastain's character was a Skrull or an actual alien nor did it identify what type of aliens would be in the film. It said she was a mysterious otherworldly shapeshifter. She might be connected to the major secret plot twist said to be half way through the movie. And I doubt that was shown in the test screenings in order to preserve the secret. As one site speculated:

Another theory is that Smith is actually a gender-swapped version of Mastermind. Mastermind is an original member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the comics. He returned later and used his mind control and illusion powers to manipulate Jean Grey. This mental assault led to the emergence of the Dark Phoenix and Jean's loss of control. Chastain's character has a power set and role in the story that is very similar to Mastermind's in the original Dark Phoenix, which could be a very intentional thing. Without artificial restraints, Mastermind's power can spread uncontrollably, sometimes affecting an entire town.

According to Simon Kinberg, "What she realizes is she can use [Jean Grey] to manipulate this world, to turn it against itself.”

Chastain's character is a shape-shifter, but that power may not be the same as, say, Mystique's. This theory suggests that Smith's "shapeshifting" is actually her changing her appearance using illusion, rather than physically shifting.

The same she's been getting for years:

1) Token for diversity
2) Power display to use in the trailers
3) Bait the fans

You forgot:

4) The gift of countless hours on the message board for fans to argue which hairstyle she'll get.

You know, the little joys in life for Storm movie fans.

So you can believe the leaks but no one can believe an actual newspaper? Really? And who was "making fun of" anyone?

Is it possible that Chastain could be playing Selene?

Huh? That "actual newspaper" you're quoting is "The Sun" already noted on the boards (and in the real world) as not known for its accuracy.

Is "The Sun"'s accuracy really the metaphorical hill you want to die on?

Really? And who was "making fun of" anyone?

Here's Cktopl's hystrionics about Frankeh's original post:

Well why'd you post it up here in the first place then? If you can figure out that this is not legit it doesn't help to keep spreading it around causing misinformation.

Here's kevork's post:

Why is this whole plot spoiler thing being discussed if one guy already said it’s primarily fan fiction?

Granted kevork hasn't posted yet but where's Ckotopl's outrage from Erik Lensherr's The Sun post?

You are going to "die on" false propaganda from a reddit user?
And none of those post are "making fun of" anyone just saying they don't think a nameless source should be taken as gospel. Try again. Also that wasn't me either.

That's why you shouldn't entertain liars who twist words. I learned that a while ago from my own interaction with said poster.

No one's saying the reddit spoilers that were posted should be taken as gospel. Most of the discussion after were people qualifying their post with (My post's) "Not sure the veracity of the summary but..." and Frankeh's post qualifying it as "supposed" premise/breakdown and that he's "recognizing it is mostly fake."

Cktopl and kevork's posts were of them shaming Frankeh and telling him to stop discussing it. To stop speculating something on an "X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread." To me that's "making fun of."

It's obvious we're running out of things to talk about when we're discussing what's more trusted of news: Reddit or The Sun.

So what's your opinion of that post from The Sun? I hope you would also say "that this is not legit [and] it doesn't help to keep spreading it around causing misinformation."

Pointing out that speculating on false info is a waste of time isn't "shaming" or "making fun of". It simply make no logical sense to spend time on something that you know is pointless.....which is self explanatory and pointed out in my quote itself. Such bizarre reasoning.....
