Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

It's entirely possible the X-Men won't reach their full potential in the MCU, either.

But they'll have colorful costumes and the right accents, and Storm will say things like "Winds hear me pose!" and all will be forgiven.

LOL! Funny, earlier I was thinking about whether they would incorporate her speeches. Lol

What is everyone still arguing about? Seems like both sides of this never-ending debate are getting what they want. Dark Phoenix is coming out soon, the rights are official with Marvel and a reboot is imminent. Aren't we all satisfied?! Lol

I get the impression these days that a lot of people get more satisfaction in seeing the other guy lose than getting what they want themselves. Unfortunately.

I don't need to see the X-Men drop an F bomb and I don't need crazy violence like in Logan. Neither of those things are what made Logan a great movie and if I'm honest, those are the two things that dropped the movie down a notch for me.

I'm still looking forward to Dark Phoenix - I hope it's a good send off for the FoX-Men and that it still makes $450-500 million at the BO.

The MCU doesn’t have a perfect track record here. An American Black Widow and a British Thor come to mind. But they do a pretty good job most of the time.

I think the final trailer will have more battle sequences.

We really haven't seen much of the battles:

- the one Quicksilver shot at Jeans house is all we've seen of actual fighting at the Jean House

- all we've seen of the actual Central Park fight is cyclops firing at magneto.

- and the trains sequence is Storm shooting lighting, beast jumping over guy and magneto using the guns.

Personally, with the international trailer, I'm satisfied with what space rescue mission. I hope we don't get anymore of it in trailers, I want to wait till the film.

I personally wished the International trailer was the final trailer, and even then I still think that as a result of the transitional “I give up” marketing debacle (they all got their term notices yesterday) , there’s still a 3rd one out there ready to go.

The one from Jimmy Fallon, although closest to the International Trailer, is still different from both that were released. It’s like there was a miscommunication somewhere and the official trailer and final trailer were cut was decided and they cut an excerpt featuring Chastain from the wrong trailer and sent that to the show, when they realized the mistake they said “ f it which trailer cut was that, just release it as the international trailer” and they said okay and put out an even different one that was somewhat close and they tried to kill it, hence why it kept getting taken down for a week, then realized it spread to far and decided to just let it be.

Sheesh, that was a mess. Meanwhile production had no idea until the next day.

It's bittersweet, that 20 years of X-Men story is coming to an end, so much potential. I, daresay, wouldn't have mind them bringing them into the MCU as a result of the infinity war affecting reality.. given they really knock whatever they plan out of the park with the current cast. Like it needs to be near perfect to correct the wrongs and that may be a challenge. But also on the other hand, I want accurate representations of the X-men which would be better with a clean slate.

They have for a while now. There’s nothing to change that wasn’t with reshoots, unless you want a levitating, beam firing grey race calling themselves the Shiar. That’s gone.

Kinberg had different ideas that you all would have loved but people need to get it through to their heads that he has A BOSS, several in fact, and when they order something happen (like turning two films into one and now that you can’t flesh out a central group, make them brainless invaders because that needs no setup, like our previously successful movie, Independence Day), he HAS TO do it. Fox was a business. Business has hierarchy. Place blame where’s blame is due, or is it because Feige’s name is recognizable but no one can name his Fox counterpart.

Yeah that was before. Now Kinberg has new bosses now after the first round of the layoffs, his old bosses are no longer in charge, I believe.

Is there a possibility that there's a new opportunity to do something unique here given the position DP is in?

His old bosses are still in charge, they just have bosses now. Fox is still an entity, they just now part of a collective. Once this is out, said collective has another one of its companies, Marvel Studios, who is actively formulating and enacting the steps necessary to introduce new version of these characters so they want to make it clear that this one ends this version.

It’s far too late for his original plan, but the current iteration is well shot, enjoyable and does a good job at doing justice to Jean’s story given the limitations, so the only possibility is to sit back. It was smart for it to focus on where it did because of what was set up for this Jean previously. I only wish we got her full line in Apocalypse that we saw in Sophie and Tye’s screen test.

I wonder what Feige thought of Kinberg's original idea. He must have known by now since he had a meeting with Kinberg & his crew months back. And I'm sure Feige is aware of how Fox operate.

Production crew must have been so angry after that. That explains everything with the way the trailers were released tho. Had no idea Fox had broken down so early even before this movie was made and left so many people clueless until the last minute. Clearly didn't care an ounce about their employees. And now so many will be out of work. The way they went about this merger wasn't handled well at all and only the top people cashed out. Sad.

I doubt we will get a final trailer, we've only just got the second. Third/final trailers are usually quite close to the films release.
I'm hearing the final trailer will hit near the end of April and will include more of the space rescue sequence, possible confrontation at Jean's childhood home, and a peak at the final battle. They supposedly showed parts of the movie to a film magazine (possibly Empire) a few days ago as part of an incoming marketing strategy.

I don’t think there will be a final trailer. Final trailers aren’t really a standard, if anything it’s an extended tv spot. I can’t name a whole lot of films that have had them.

The press screening makes sense now that you mention it, Kinberg did post a bunch of people in front of the screening room/post production lobby standing in front of the giant version of the poster that’s now there. No idea who they were at the time but they’re definitely not on the cast or crew.

Common sense.

DP needs a lot of advertising and a final (more focused on the battles, the good stuff) trailer is the best way to get butts in theaters.

Expecting a panel at CinemaCon too.
I meant I doubt we will get a third/final trailer at the panel, When we’ve only just had the second.

Obviously we are expecting a third trailer, I was referring to what their source is for claiming one is dropping so soon.

Don't they usually do the magazine covers thing? So we can possibly assume that will happen soon.

You're completely right. It's too soon for a new trailer.

I wouldn't expect nothing but a poster (character posters if we're luckies) from Wondercon either.

Note: I've just realized that CinemaCon starts the following day (from April 1st to 4th) but fox won't have a presentation.

Dark Phoenix has been in production for so long this will be its third CinemaCon (ShoWest).

Not sure if they will do a presentation but they should. To give the theatre owners (that’s who CinemaCon is for) their guarantee that Dark Phoenix really will hit movie theatres this time.

They will probably show the space scene, possibly with more polished CGI. Character posters would be cool, given the poster looks like stills taken from the movie.

Will that marketing strategy stick though? Now that Disney has taken over?

Disney isn't going to just stop marketing this movie, lol. They want it to make as much money as possible

Yeah this movie in no way hurts their plans. They want it to succeed and as many butts in the seats come release to see the firm ending of this saga so they won’t confuse it with their own. Also doesn’t stop them from doing the storyline again, although there will be a much longer timeline. They’re calling everything up til endgame the Infinity Saga, so I’m guessing the following

-Infinity Saga : 22 movies, Thanos is the big bad (that we know of)
- Celestial Saga : 10 movies or so, introduces F4 and X-Men, Intergallactic Empires, Galactus Is the big bad
-Phoenix Saga : 10 movies or so, introduces cataclysm of realities (since the Phoenix exists in all realities at once), Dark Phoenix is the big bad during Avengers Vs X-Men

15 years will be the best case scenario, with it without this movie, it never mattered. I don’t the idea of it being that far away either but it never detracted from their ultimate goal with the next saga.

Personally i don't think the MCU will touch the Phoenix. if they use jean i think they will use her in a different way, even if its different from the comics. just like with how they are doing Spider-man currently. there is no feeling of ohh we need to do out own version of every story. they will make some integrational changes to work within the MCU.

But then there is also the question of whose gonna be an Avenger when that time comes? because they are already giving this idea that certain members are being concluded in Endgame. and then of course there is the whole thing of unless its an event movie they have only made 3 movies of every solo character. so will X-Men count in that way? given their current slate of film ideas they have planned and current 2 movies a year set up, who knows.
