Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Ehhh. Come 2033, Marvel will probably be fine with it. Especially if they utilize the Phoenix as @icekid said and do a hybrid of Avengers vs X-Men and the Dark Phoenix saga

Well judging by what they are doing with spidey, they have shown that even though they could, they also can afford not too very easily. and obviously they kept certain elements and worthy characters but i dunno if the Phoenix force would touch on that same kind of important to universe element.

I have argued the same thing in the Spidey section about if Feige could use Venom. i don't think he would. There doesn't seem to be any sign of trying to step on previous incarnations just to do their own better one.

They have plans for Oscorp, etc. it’s too early in Spideys MCU existence, literally (he’s in Highschool) for them to explore that side. Venom is a casualty of their very unique, very different deal.

If anything, there’s so much unexplored Phoenix territory they haven’t done, such as Phoenix as an entity, with a mind and all, without Jean. A true Phoenix Force, even though I hate the idea of a split consciousness and the post-Dark Phoenix Saga retconn overall. We may see that in a GoTG movie (or whatever the space trotting franchise is down the line) before we see it encounter Jean Grey, who can be developed without its tie to it over the course of several movies before the connection is revealed. It can be done and it will be entirely different.

Have there been any references of Oscorp in the MCU since Spider-man's introduction to it? I don't believe so. Sony/Marvel have a unique relationship however.

Fox's film division has been completely absorbed by Disney tho. So it's possible Feige could rehash the storyline at some point.

But if DP doesn't bring in the revenue it is projected to do for whatever reason. It'll have 0-2 track record in profitability. I doubt a third attempt would really sway the audience unless it's built from the ground up MCU-style.

Well that and the fact that Holland is on a 5 or 6 film contact and he is nearly done with that, and i dunno whether Marvels contracts actors for more movies or just pays them by film after, but beyond getting them into team up movies they don't really seem to be pushing the 4,5 and 6 sequels.

it can be done and it will be entirely different.

Yeah but then they could also do something completely different altogether. heck if you wanted to over hype something brand new then it would probably be easier to think of any X-Men cross over with other heroes gimmick movie, then the idea that hey lets do out own version of Phoenix because the previous version, and little glimpse in the previous version before that and the previous attempt before that, the little glimpse in the previous version before that and the overall effect that element had on the previous series of films in itself whether its flashbacks or hallucinations... missed elements out

Well, we're only 3 years into MCU Spidey's existence. Whi knows what they could do in the next 5 years assuming they can renew the deal with Sony. Now, 11 years into X-Men's MCU venture, they'll probably be more comfortable hearing about the Phoenix again. They could properly build up to it, develop Jean and make peoplevinvested in her. Make the Phoenix saga and the Avengers trying to kill her - matter

I didn’t say there have been references, I said there are plans. Take that as you will but that’s not from me but where I read it hasn’t been wrong so far.

This movie again in no way hinders what will come and does not stop them from doing it again because there’s so much unexplored that stretches beyond just the X-Men. Externals could be a new introduction. Rumor has it, a young Odin has a role in it, who in the comics has been revealed to have been romantically involved with its first Earthbound host, perhaps with it itself as we later see his present comic form and it interact. Possibilities are endless.

Oh yeah. But given how Marvel set things up... they're setting their sites on the Sinister Six right now and Oscorp and it's dynamic owners are no where to be seen yet. So that's why I don't see Marvel following where the roads have already been treaded.

And while DoFP, Age of Apocalypse, Pheonix Saga, and Magneto's brotherhood have all been done already... I believe Marvel will be looking elsewhere and throwing us a curveball of sorts. I've seen more evidence of this than what we've all been speculating.

Yep i think Marvel will let the FOX movies stand as those adaptations and Marvel will do a different story. there is only so long the MCU can go on for with each individual set of characters and i don't think every story will get a chance to be touched on so they might aswell just find their own direction.

Ya know what I just started to wonder? If the MCU does start using Jean as part of their X-Men, how will they differentiate her powers from those of Scarlet Witch? The films present her powers very similarly to Jean's no? Telepathy and telekinesis. What do you all think?

Not sure really, because Scarlet Witch never had telekenisis though I love her in the MCU. Jean can stand on her own because Wanda Morris controls the red essence that comes from her and that moves things as if it's an extension of her. Giving Jean a pink power signature around her head or body will be enough.

Wanda was never called "Scarlet Witch" in the movies.

Now with this upcoming TV Show for her, I do hope they can add the "witch" part of her and change her powers.

Yeah this movie in no way hurts their plans. They want it to succeed and as many butts in the seats come release to see the firm ending of this saga so they won’t confuse it with their own. Also doesn’t stop them from doing the storyline again, although there will be a much longer timeline. They’re calling everything up til endgame the Infinity Saga, so I’m guessing the following

-Infinity Saga : 22 movies, Thanos is the big bad (that we know of)
- Celestial Saga : 10 movies or so, introduces F4 and X-Men, Intergallactic Empires, Galactus Is the big bad
-Phoenix Saga : 10 movies or so, introduces cataclysm of realities (since the Phoenix exists in all realities at once), Dark Phoenix is the big bad during Avengers Vs X-Men

15 years will be the best case scenario, with it without this movie, it never mattered. I don’t the idea of it being that far away either but it never detracted from their ultimate goal with the next saga.
Dude by that time people won’t be as interested in superhero movies as they are now...inless, inless , inless highe r profile directors start doing these movies

its been more than 10 yrs since first mcu film and superhero fatigue is nowhere to be seen.
so i dont see the genre going away.
higher profile directors can either adapt or keep doing the type of films people no longer want to go to cinema for.

Well people are still going to movies to see these movies but the people that are seeing them aren’t exactly liking them I.e. venom, suicide squad, antman&wasp,, probaly dark Phoenix (lol) and a lot of people I know that went to see captain marvel said it was just ok...of course I can be proven wrong since I can’t tell the future..it’s just with superhero movies the fandom the bar is constantly being set with overall spectacles, special effects, etc...venom 10 or 15 years ago would of been a good comic book movie now compared to what’s came out ..it sucks!

Well really people are still rushing to see Venom and Suicide Squad so i don't think thats fatigue really.

Only thing id argue with comic book movies is that the quantity is going on up rapidly, aswell as the TV shows and alot of the visuals in TV are becoming close to the movies too. so how big can this continue to grow before it starts to crumble

It probably helps to make as many different types of comic book movies as possible to the point they stop feeling like comic book movies and just become films.

I guess that's why Feige and Marvel Studios didn't reboot Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America, etc. They don't try to step on previous incarnations just to do their own better one.

That must be why Kinberg isn't doing Dark Phoenix again, he probably doesn't want to step on the Famke Janssen version...

"but this new version is a totally different type of movie, because it has....... aliens, and its grounded, unlike x3"

Kinberg doing the opposite of adding more fatigue, he's so smart :funny:

I thought that’s what fox was trying to do with the x-properties ...trying to make them movies with comic book characters not comic book movies

There are limits to all things. when they rebooted spider-man they didn't do the uncle ben thing again, infact its almost like hints are the only thing that exist of the character, but they don't wanna go over it again.

But then if you go by people on here, they believe there is no investment in the character without his tragic backstory. Marvel decided Iron man is now that investment towards the character and spideys looking up to him as a role-model.

So again they ain't just going over it again purely because they can.

No one can second guess what the MCU will do with the X-Men but I would personally imagine that they'll focus on the key team members.

After all, that hasn't really happened for the past 20 years at Fox, has it?

I can't imagine they will suddenly bring together some obscure team line-up of Z-listers and miss out all the bigger names.

They were, to some extent, but that way of thinking has had mixed results.

Fox didn't know the material very well and didn't have great faith in it either.

Also, the most successful films in this franchise (aside from the spin-offs) feel most like X-Men films - X3, DoFP and X2. (The draw of the original cast is a big part of that, admittedly).

Fox did really well with the (eventual) risk of R-rated spinoffs - both Deadpools and Logan. Disney seems to want to continue with some R-rated comic book material so the more gritty stuff can end up there.

Gambit, Angel, Psylocke, Jubilee and Bishop are all waiting for their turn.

And there's a lot to do with Cyclops, Jean, Rogue, Colossus, Storm Iceman, Shadowcat, Beast, Nightcrawler, Havok, Emma, Banshee, Polaris etc. FoX barely scratched the surface when it comes to those characters.

Well put. Unfortunately that approach to making a comic book adaptation has gone the way of the dodo.

Venom made over 855 million worldwide.
Suicide Squad made over 746 million worldwide.
Ant Man And The Wasp made 622 million.
As of this writing, Captain Marvel’s international total is 834 million and climbing.
And by the way, CM, that movie that you’re friends told you was just okay, stands a chance of topping out with a 1billion worldwide gross.
What was it you were saying about Superhero fatigue?
