Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Again this question? There have been box office discussions in this site for every single X-Men movie. Come on now.
Yes...and at this point it its beating a dead horse. People are not speculating anymore. They are just trolling.

If that's trolling then report it and we'll see if actions are taken.

Until then, I'll say it is totally by the rules.

Ummm...that's kinda how box office prognosticating works. It changes day to day, week to week until the big day comes. Your forecast goes up or down based on several factors, hence it'll be an ongoing discussion. It's not a dead horse to be beaten up.

If anything it's you that's not adding to the discussion (and beating a dead horse) with your "Who cares?" posts. How many times have you posted that? How many more times will you post it?

Discussing a movie's box office is not trolling.....HOW you discuss it determines if someone is trolling.

I’m hoping this can do well enough but my expectations are low. I think internationally it seems like that’s gonna be the win. But overall when it gets under Marvel we will finally get some exciting and good BO numbers.

I can see it doing well in a few select markets and having an increase from Apocalypse. Most markets however will decrease, imo.

Yeah agreed. I’m not sure how it’s gonna do here in Aus. Apocalypse did not do well here. I remember the cinemas were basically empty when it came out. And I have seen no promotion for DP in Aus at all. But at the moment most of the marketing is geared to Godzilla and I think once that’s out they will start to focus on DP.

I just find it ironic (see: Sad) that once again a Godzilla movie will eat into this movie's box office. Many people would agree that DOFP was the far superior movie to the Godzilla with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as a married couple but that Godzilla still made more on its opening weekend, and made more noise, than DOFP's.

Well...it is Godzilla. He is quite loud. One would kinda expect him to make more noise. :funny:

To your point, though, I agree. Days Of Future Past really was the better of the two movies, but Godzilla perhaps had the advantage of being somewhat fresher to audiences. While certainly not new, it had been a little while since a monster movie like that had really shown up (and quite a while between Godzilla films), whereas there was a lot of superhero movies out there. And, yeah, it is sort of quirky that, once again, that is going to happen.

You can't be serious. Dark Phoenix is not going to perform at the box office the same way Jumanji 2 is. That movie INCREASED close to 40% on its second weekend (New Year weekend...) and then 82% the following weekend. Subsequent weekends only saw minimal decreases. Movies RARELY increase their box office week-to-week. That movie is the exception to the rule; not the rule.

Dark Phoenix, part of a franchise that is KNOWN for having ginormous decreases at the box office, is not going to magically grow good legs.

My point was that doesn’t mean Detective Pikachu isn’t going to do well at the Chinese BO.

That $39Mil opening weekend cume pretty much tells you it's not going to break out in China...

Pikachu, like most Hollywood movies, will only play in China for 5, up to 9 weeks (if it's lucky). Which makes your Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle comparison doubly head-scratching. Jumanji played for 23 weeks in North America (it played for 5 weeks in China LOL), and again its box office run was the exception to the rule; not the rule.

Pikachu will most likely decline north of 60% (see: Alita 62%, Endgame 63%, Captain Marvel 72%) to a whopping $15Mil next weekend. With that $39Mil opener, it'll probably make $60Mil in China when all is said and done, regardless if its there for 5 weeks or 9...

To bring this back to Dark Phoenix, Turner, McAvoy, Fassy, Sheridan and Peters will be at the premiere in China on May 29th.

Captain Marvel: Yes embargo was lifted only 3 days before release. Wasn't a fan of this movie. That said the social media embargo was already out way in advance and the word-of-mouth was already positive by then.

Captain Marvel's embargo coincided with its US premiere, which was delayed because of the Oscars.

So previously people didn't want to believe boxoffice.com's prediction of $47Mil opening weekend ("It's too early!" "Who believes boxoffice.com!"). Well now the Hollywood trades are pretty much saying the same thing. Variety now has their projection up:
Universal’s “The Secret Life of Pets 2” is heading for a North American opening of as much as $65 million during the June 7-9 frame, topping Disney-Fox’s “Dark Phoenix” at about $50 million, early tracking showed Thursday.

Godzilla opened bigger but Dofp as I expected, grossed higher.

I am confused. Who exactly went around screaming that they didn't believe those box office predictions? The general view is that the movie will be opening in the 40 to 50 million range, and most fans are fine with that as this series has run its course.

its more like most fans have gotten used to mediocre numbers for such a huge and belove property, damaged by Fox during 19 years.

really sad how many people are fine with such important charaters in the pop/comics culture getting these heavily poor numbers. Fox has really set the bar really low, dont they?

I sincerely worry more about the critical reception of this film than with the box office
logically it will be cool if he surpasses expectations, but this is an end, there will not be another movie or continuation, so the most important thing is that it ends with a good note.
the franchise has already made its story at the box office reaching the # 6 most profitable position.
