Eh I wouldn't go that far, the "team's humanity" was not a strong point in X1, unless you mean just Logan and Rogue, who I agree are the heart of the film, along with the ideology conflict between Xavier and Magneto. The relationship between teammates wasn't really fleshed out. We don't even get the sense that Storm is friends with any of them.
I think a space adventure may actually feel fresh in this franchise. They can have "good" Phoenix in Supernova and then have her go "Dark" in the sequel. All I know is that battle of X-Men vs. Imperial Guard in the moon is something that could be the top battle in a CBM ever, as long as Singer isn't directing it.
So...was X-3 Brett Ratner's fault, then?
Simon's original draft for X-3 was more faithful to the comics, so in the end, this may be a good thing.
And there goes whatever microscopic interest I might have had left in the X-men movies.
Apocalypse was also a big effects showcase and.. that's all we got, nothing more to it and with Kinberg's track record, this is not a good thing.
Kinberg as the top contender makes me think that nobody else wants to touch the main X-Men series
That's all that needs to be said.
Yeah and Kinberg's only directing credit is Fantastic FourSinger isn't good for a Post Avenger's world
Sad but true. Let's reboot this!Kinberg as the top contender makes me think that nobody else wants to touch the main X-Men series

Is there any storyline that people feel can be done in one movie now? They don't need any of the Phoenix Saga stuff, as Jean is already manifesting the Phoenix powers at the end of Apocalypse. How are they going to cram all the Jean going Dark, space, Imperial Guard, M'Krann into one true to the comics movie? I don't see it happening successfully. Apocalypse shouldn't have been just one movie arc either.
That's definitely not true. Big studio directing gigs like this are a draw; you're not going to get major auteurs, of course (not for anything with this degree of studio control), but FOX could have scooped up any number of indie directors looking to break in (which is increasingly the way studios handle superhero franchises).Kinberg as the top contender makes me think that nobody else wants to touch the main X-Men series

.
I welcome Vaughan back if he's available now that Kingsman 2 is done.
Trank's FFINO would have been a disaster regardless of who ended up finishing it.
Borys Kit says Kinberg does have some directing experience, he had to step in to "manage" Fantastic Four and X-Men Apocalypse. He made it sound like Apocalypse was a troubled set.

Sure. But it would still be interesting if they used all those shots directed by Trank. Most of the scenes in the first trailer weren't used for the final version of the film. I still don't get why they had to remove Thing's scene jumping from the jet, that flows better with the eight month gap.
Like most reviewers said, after the eight month gap, it felt like the studio stepped in and it suddenly felt like a different film which just hurt the movie even more.
The first half wasn't fantastic but it wasnt that bad. I think a lot of potential and build up were wasted with the second half which just disappointed everybody.I would agree that the film went completely off the rails after the eight month break. I'm just not sure it was salvageable before that point.
