I like a lot of aspects about Snyder but in many ways it feels like an extremely talented 13 year old is directing these movies

I'm not sure I follow. What about Snyder's direction is adolescent?

You HAVE seen Sucker Punch, yes? It's Zack Snyder, unhinged and unchecked with no one telling him what he can or can't do.....and it's basically every early teen boy's fantasies combined into one movie.

Nothing. It's reverse-edgelordisms on their part. They don't like how stylized Snyder's movies are so they say he's a 13 year old despite their favorite directors all being on Snyder's dick. Excuse my crass, Ms. Lane.

I love Zack's version of the DCEU. Graphic novel visuals look like the pages of comic have truly come to life. Plus the mature and dramatic tone of the movie is so much more interesting to me than those lighter toned movies.

I just hope DC doesn't go the family friendly route. I love the dramatic tension the X-men and DC universe creates, besides the Suicide Squad. Please DC, no more SS type movies.

You can have dramatic tension by being family friendly. Superheroes were designed for children and you're taking out the primary target :)

X-Men movies are much more serious but they're still family friendly and directly play to problems of identity and being different as a kid.

You missed the irony then.

Its supposed to make you feel like a 13yr old who is watching these fetisized girls and then realise "Dang it" ive been played.

The only thing holding Sucker Punch back IMO is the shoddy CGI. All of the action scenes are bad-ass in theory and Syder tried to put them on the screen but for some reason he didn't have the budget or technology to perfect them.

Sucker Punch was a film about teenagers and the dream worlds they create, so I still don't follow. When it comes to BvS, for example, I don't know of any early teen whose "wet dream" is an operatic five act revenge tragedy and existential hero's journey featuring imagery and allusions to classic Christian art and texts.

Okay so then Sucker Punch is a complex and heavily layered story...

...hidden under every teenage boy's fantasies. Again, an extremely talented 13 year old.

Okay, I understand your point and a genuine thank you for the enlightenment (might have to give it another go) but then lemme ask you this...

...how is Snyder able to make such a compelling and thought-provoking original film like Sucker Punch, then turn around and misunderstand and bastardize the portrayals of the 2 most popular superheroes who have over half a century's worth of source material? BvS, specifically (when he didn't have godfather Nolan watching over the production), feels significantly less refined than Man of Steel...which is also plagued with narrative and thematic issues.

Maybe he misunderstood, maybe it was his own take. Anyway, JL trailers coming so we will continue this discussion later :)

Isn't it a bit unfair to say misunderstood/bastardize, especially since neither of these characters are limited to one version?

Different people like different versions of these characters, some people like Adam West Silver age Bats, while others prefer the darker version folks creators like Miller put forth.

It's the same argument a lot of Pre-52 fans used for discussion with folks who liked New 52 (not that it's unique or anything. That sort of discussion is rampant across comic book fandom because how often publishers change up things).

I understand it as Zack's take on these characters - you can like/dislike it, but I think it's unfair to argue he doesn't get the characters themselves.

There can be different views and versions for sure. Christopher Nolan's Batman doesn't incompass all versions of the character, but I don't think it's unfair to say that Snyder doesn't understand the ESSENCE of the characters....especially Superman.

Snyder needs to understand that quips aren't the only thing needed to lighten up the mood - the cinematography's palette does too and it seems like he went even darker for this.

IKR. Why can't we have an action sequence in the day?

Fair enough, but then what's the essence of these characters?

That also differs depending on who you ask.

There are many, including myself, who see Snyder's Superman as an amalgamation of various Modern interpretations of the character, and as such captures the essence.

But, there are many who don't agree to view, which is also fair.

Another example is Superman in the Timmverse. I didn't particularly like how he was treated in that universe, but there are many fans who thought that his version captured what Superman meant to them.

Why are you assuming that there won't be?

If there are, why not showcase at least 1 in the trailer?

I think you know the answer. Zack is obsessed with the dark. He must have spent a lot of time of his childhood locked in a closet.

It looks like classic Zack Snyder epic! Not the music I'd prefer and a lot of one liners (but hey, the real fans asked for funny), but I'm back on full hype for this.

I don't think the film needs to literally take place in the day in order to be lighter. It wasn't even the quips that sold me of the lighter tone. BvS had quips after all. It was the little stuff, like Barry's boyish excitement and Arthur's rockstar charisma. There's a genuine happiness for these guys and gal (pun intended) to be doing what they're doing.

At any rate, I didn't like Sucker Punch, but it's silly to define a filmmaker by a single film. Best or worst, it just doesn't really sum up an entire filmography. Zack made me care about Superman and for the first time made me actually question Batman, so those are two big wins for me.
