Zack Snyder Directing Justice League - Part 2

Cause all the action scenes appear to be at night.

that may be in part because they don't want batman in daylight.

Honestly...I am not sure it would look good in daylight. Look at some of the Marvel films for instance: The daylight fight scenes are just...I dunno, average or just mediocre.

But - The Knightmare scene with Parademons was fantastic...so if they can do something like that for an action? It would be awesome.

Zack Snyder relies on CGI soooooo much, doing to much during the day where it is suppose to be light outside would put to much pressure on the cgi effects/constant green screen.

Okay so then Sucker Punch is a complex and heavily layered story...

...hidden under every teenage boy's fantasies. Again, an extremely talented 13 year old.

That sounds like a good summary of Zach Snyder.

Well it certainly looks like a Zack Snyder film. So much for people hoping they would keep him on a tight leash with this one.

I don't think the film needs to literally take place in the day in order to be lighter. It wasn't even the quips that sold me of the lighter tone. BvS had quips after all. It was the little stuff, like Barry's boyish excitement and Arthur's rockstar charisma. There's a genuine happiness for these guys and gal (pun intended) to be doing what they're doing.

At any rate, I didn't like Sucker Punch, but it's silly to define a filmmaker by a single film. Best or worst, it just doesn't really sum up an entire filmography. Zack made me care about Superman and for the first time made me actually question Batman, so those are two big wins for me.

The contrast of the fun the characters are having versus the palette choices and green screen are what is throwing me off the most. I mean I can tell Aquaman and The Flash are going to be a fun ride, but everything around them is so dreary.

I mean, people can have fun in inclement weather. Sometimes, even on a stormy night, I still manage to smile.

IKR. Why can't we have an action sequence in the day?

MOS has about 45 minutes of action during the day, can always rewatch that. In fact, it pretty much has all the action during the day, but maybe nights on Krypton look like in the movie.

And I'm really shocked that JL looks like a Zack Snyder movie. :o

I'm sick of people praising Snyder's visuals.

At best he's capable of creating things that look good in still shots but in motion everything always looks terrible.

His best looking movies, 300 and Watchmen, had the comic panels to fall back on and use as a guide. When left to his own devices he cannot create something that looks beautiful on his own. Everything looks like a video game.

GOTG is basically a green screen movie and couple of scenes were daylight, so it's not about that.

Well for me, the first GOTG felt claustrophobic. The 2nd one looks a little bit better in that regard.

We're talking MoS, BvS, and by indications JL though. That's three films chalk full of inclement weather - just a bit excessive.

Hope I'm wrong.

MoS had a ton of daytime stuff. But I honestly don't care either way. I just want the shots to look good and so it works for me.

I've been harsh on the DCEU, and I think that BvS is *the* worst superhero movie I've seen in at least 5 years.

However, this new Justice League trailer? While the teaser did nothing for me, I thought that this new trailer was pretty cool. I'm still very cautious, because I loved all of the Suicide Squad trailers as well ... But for right now, I'm just going to appreciate a cool looking trailer.

This is true. MOS was like pretty much all daytime stuff, not just for the battle sequences, but for origin elements, and we saw that Metropolis sequence revisited at the beginning of BVS.

In a lot of ways, Snyder's sequences do tend to just look better at night.

Especially with all the energy blasts and such.

He does do something really cool when it comes to lighting the characters in those types of "energy" sequences. Flashes of color and the like.

well he's clearly a fan of joseph campbell, and is following the mythic narrative of the environment reflecting the spirit of the hero. so things are sunnier and daylit in mos, it seems to be set in the summer, the time of life, then part 2 we get the dying land because like arthur, the king is now wounded, and with the king still wounded/dead in 3, its fittingly dark, until his prophesied return at which time the sun returns with the sun king and they all lived happily ever after

Look at the contrast within the trailer. It starts out with Bruce riding a horse in a real environment. Nice shots, it feels like a real movie. Then you get an action scene where Momoa jumps into the air in some barren wasteland that looks 30% rendered.

That's the first thing I noticed.

"Wow, some lovely shots of what looks like Iceland and.... oh well nevermind, now we're in a video game cutscene."

You didn't like the NYC fight in the Avengers? That's probably my favorite superhero battle. Smallville being a close second.

You know I see fans on here praising this shot?

I mean... do I even have to go into why this looks terrible?

And THIS is supposed to be a money shot?
