Zak Penn and The Live Action Avengers Movie Threads Merged

Sorry, but two Marvel misses (not counting X3) is too many for me to trust him on any Marvel movie ever again.

Ya but do not forget all were 20th century FOX movies.

I mean Elektra & X3 and btw he did NOT write the script of F4. He wrote the F4 video game story. F4 script was written by the dreaded Simon Kinberg.

I saw the weak story telling of X3 and FF also had very weak story. I'm just wondering if this dude has the chops to handle so many of marvels uber-characters. I'd hate to see this flick flop because of weak writing...I wish Studio people would just higher comic book writers to write comic book films. They'd make more money.

Since these are all under Marvel's studio now, is it safe to assume that the actors who portray Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America are going to have it written in their contract as playing these characters in the Avengers movie?

I think he'll do fine writing the Incredible Hulk, but I don't think he has the chops to write the Avengers. I wouldn't mind David Hayter taking a swing at it or if they go with more of an Ultimates type Avengers Mark Millar writing it with Hayter or someone with comic book roots doing the screenplay.

I really can't judge Penn too harshly for FF and X3 as their entire productions were pretty much screwed from the get go. However, he obviously hasn't done anything too impressive either, and because of that I'm sorta worried. Given it's probable size, Marvel really can't afford to mess up an Avengers movie, and I would've hoped they'd had gotten a big bigger, better name to write the script.

Damn, do I wish they'd just make an Ultimates movie. The comic's just so utterly cinematically, they'd barely even need a script to begin with.

Zak Penn admitted he didnt like ALOT of things in both FF and X3. Alot of things were out of his control and he said he did the best he could to make it a good film. Alot of X3 was not his fault at all. Same with FF, he came into FF later anyway, and the studio's have all control....

Go Ultimates, screw 616 Avengers. Ultimates with it's internal stryfe, global threats and political commentary is a movie waiting to happen. Especially suits the current public opinion regarding the military-industrial complex.

I could care less really, either way they go. I just think you have to look at just more than the last 5 minutes of history. There are plenty of classic Avengers stories that can be told on screen. Ultimates was written to be the next summer blockbuster. My qualms aside, id love to see either one really but with Zak Penn writing it I dont have much faith.

Seriously, if they could do Captain America first (set in WWII), end it with his "death"...open Avengers up with a cured Banner, Iron Man, Thor and (the Ultimates plus Hawkeye and Black Widow)...then they could pretty much do the story word for word with one scene added to explain the pressence of the characters.

Also I'd keep the scene where they speculate over who should play whom in a movie. Except this time have them suggesting themselves for their own parts. However when they get to Hawkeye the guy they name (who would be playing him) to play him Hawkeye would respond "nah man that guy is a jacka$$" or something.

Really, let me say this. If youre going to make an Avengers movie, make it Avengers. Dont use the Ultimates and call it Avengers. Ultimates is a btter movie title IMO anyway.

Its not ok for me though. If youre going to do an Ultimates movie, call it Ultimates. Its that easy, dont do Ultimates and slap on the Avengers title, because Ultimates isnt Avengers, and this isnt me being an Ultimates hater.

Bruce Banner - Jason Lee (an odd choice I know....but I really think he could do it very well)

Iron Man - Oded Fehr

Thor - Purely based on looks....Triple H....however actors, I cannot think of any.

Singer favored his script also and was going to use it completely but didn't have the budget. And 80% of what made it on screen was all Penn. So yeah.
