85th Annual Academy Awards (2013) - Part 2

I was so happy Jennifer won. She was amazing in that movie.

I like how they both raced to her aid. :funny:

She'll be with Jackman soon enough for DOFP. :wow: :p

I enjoyed Brave and I will gladly defend it from people who try to use it as evidence for some "Fall of Pixar" narrative, but I am really disappointed that it won Best Animated Feature. The other nominees were all so much stronger films.

It was nice to see so many stop motion films recognized this year.

Also, go Paperman!

I was surprised Brave won. But I loved Brave, so I was ok with it.

i am reading comments about the boob song and Charlize Theron. she didnt have the white dress on. it was filmed and acted. so enough is enough.

Hugh attempts to help.

Hilarious backstage interview with Jennifer.

I just thought about something. Lawrence won best actress without going nude or making herself look ugly or playing a hooker. Sure she was playing a depressed sex addict but we never saw her character have sex with anyone on screen. That's a huge feat for a young attractive actress.

i totally love this dress. i'm kinda fangirling over it

Barks waist is impossibly slim. I noticed that in the film as well. She's a cute girl and I'll keep an eye on her when she gets a non singing role in a non horrible movie because I didn't think she did anything special in Les Miz acting wise. It was all about Eddie, Anne and Hugh for me.

yeah a serious question can she actually act or is she just a singer or do both like jackman

having a singing role as her first film doesn't help matters

That awkward moment when you realize you've just made a fool of yourself in front of a billion people. hehe

Well, it's obvious that Lawrence didn't think she would win, otherwise she'd have picked a different dress. I predicted her to win, but it was still a bit surprising since she's still young and doesn't have a long resume just yet. But I think she definitely deserves it.

Has there ever been a year where the major awards were this scattered? I know Argo and Django also took home for writing, but Best Picture, Director, Actor/Actress, and Supporting Actor/Actress all went to different films.

Barks was amazing as Eponine, she was probably my favorite of the whole film. She's currently in Oliver right now if I'm not mistaken.

she was on a reality show when she was 17 but I've not seen it.

side note; i love how everyone who sang in Les Mis sang in character on screen. Tveit came out full of life like a child of the barricade, and he had the red flag in his pocket . The marius/cosette/eponine triangle was very well choereographed

All the hype going into Les Mis was about Anne Hathaway but I thought Samantha was the better of the two.

Now that Les Mis is coming back to Broadway next year, I wonder if she'll play Eponine again there.

I thought Hugh was the undoubted star of the film and the best one in it, I'm not sure which one of the 2 rebels Eddie (Redmayne?) was, I'm guessing the one that fell in love with Jean Veal-Jeans daughter? He was ok but for me Sam Barks was the best after Hugh, I thought the song she sang where she realized she'd never be with the man she loved and that he just didn't see her was better and more subtly emotional than the more overwrought 'I dreamed a dream', and it didn't have the brutal imagery to help it.

Now that Les Mis is coming back to Broadway next year, I wonder if she'll play Eponine again there.

Is that her plan, to stay as a stage performer and not go into movies full time?

She just finished up Oliver last week.

The reality show was called "I'd Do Anything", and it was a singing competition for the role of Nancy in a London revival of Oliver (the title of the show is one of the songs in Oliver). Sam came in third, but Cameron Macintosh, who was one of the producers of the reality show and the producer of Les Miserables, wound up casting her as Eponine in the London production of Les Mis. She also performed the role in the 25th Anniversary concert in 2010.

She was actually playing Nancy in a UK tour of Oliver when she was cast in the film. Cameron Macintosh turned up during the curtain calls and told Sam in front of the whole audience. It was really sweet.

ive seen the video where he surprised her that she's cast as eponine on youtube. that was pretty cool

apparently she did a show in 2012 called groove high as well

I think that would be true for Watts or Wallis. And maybe Chastain but she definitely knew she was front runner. Could be she just liked the dress.
