The Dark Knight Rises A Nostalgia Thread for The Dark Knight Trilogy

I joined the board way too late, but I was lurking from the pre-Begins days.

For proof: "Teh Puffy"

The BB script leak. Glorious times!

I remember that night. Someone actually had the nerve to make a thread saying, "Get your Batman Begins scripts right here".

It was gone in the blink of an eye.

Ok. What the hell is "Teh Puffy"??

Also how was the response to Maggie Gyllenhaal casting?

The **** storm The Joker created when we first learned he would be wearing make up still never ceases to amaze me. I was in the camp who grew up thinking he did wear make up until I read his back story when I was a bit older, so it never really bothered me one way or another if the character wore make up because it's not what makes the Joker. But the noise that came from some corners of the fan base quite frankly shocked me, here was a character with white face, green hair, purple suit, and somehow it's not the Joker. Crap was being spewed from some posters that for him not to have permanent white skin is 'disrespectful' and 'not faithful' and (my personal favourite) 'doing the character an injustice'. I have heard a lot of BS come from various fan bases but nothing like the obnoxious garbage regarding something so trivial as a characters skin condition, and to epitomize said obnoxiousness fans came up with the single must ridiculous word ever created - 'perma-white'. **** me. Not only did they invent a completely obnoxious word, the replaced it with a word that already existed and had fewer syllables. For months they bagged the crap out of the decision, trying to justify why it was wrong whilst the rest of us kept pointing out to them the scarring on the character was in fact the exact same concept as to what they were arguing about. Funny how when the first trailer came about the noise subsided, and when the film came out all those 'perma-white supremacists' vanished. And why did they go quiet? Because like the rest of us kept saying - it didn't freakin' matter.

Haha. So good.

I've only been here for TDKR but one thing I'll never forget was that day in July... when Knight_Rises came on the scene... Now THAT was a crazy night. Wish I could find the picture he posted though. Lol

LMAO I remember that! Witnessing his fail as he 'ushered' people in while also claiming to have the teaser trailer drove us mad for 10+ pages

What was the reaction to the first (leaked?) pic of Two-Face?

Does anyone know where we could see that leaked picture? And what about Liam Neeson's casting?
Or the video of Heath Ledger skateboarding in Joker gear?

If you are on about the leaked two-face photo I think it was this -
d0cb6aeae35c499e933e9e8c2efc1748

I'm not even sure it was leaked....

Anyway was Neeson being Ra's revealed before the film? I'm guessing it was in the script.

Ah, nostalgia...

The first time that official site went up with just Nolan's bat-logo has got to be the kicker. None of us knew what we were in for.

That, and BALE DAMMIT!

Oh, and Jett rallying up support for Lachy Hulme to portray The Joker in TDK.

What a loser.

I'll miss those days.

Yeah, it was a shame. We knew the twist a year ahead of the film's release. Back when we all thought the movie was going to be called Batman: The Intimidation Game.

Damn, I remember people asking for the script like it was crack cocaine and being banned for life.

In Jett's defence Hulme was very much in contention for the role, I've got podcasts of him talking about it.

I really thought Jett did a great job with giving updates and such during the Begins days but somewhere down the line before, during, or after TDK, his pretentiousness and hypocrisy were becoming tiresome and unbearable.

I'm just glad someone like Chris B. had the kahunas to create and run a well-organized, good-looking site for fans who wanted to get their Batman fix on all things TDKR elsewhere other than falling prey to Batman-on-Film.

Who is this Jett guy I've heard his name a few times same for someone called Devin? The way people have been talking they sound like BatFans who have turnt on Nolan or the franchise or something.

Jett (whose real name escapes me) is the guy who runs Batman-on-Film.

For a time, his site was the only place where anybody could get real news from Nolan's Batman. He was the one who'd get interesting scoops and such, but I tell ya man, his pomposity got the better of him. When things started heating up as to who would nab the Joker role, he would shout out names like "Crispin Glover", "Paul Bettany", "Johnny Depp" and "Lachy Hulme."

Of course, everything was just speculation and to be fair, we all had our wish list as to who we wanted to play the Joker. But that's all it was. Wishful thinking. He just took it one step further... until Latino Review first broke the news about Ledger's casting.

Anyway, I don't want to speak too ill of the guy -- I don't even know him personally! But trust me, a lot of people here have many more stories to tell about Jett and they ain't pretty.

There was a time when BOF had a different actor "rumored" to play Dent every week.

I remember checking BOF regularly to check the status on who's the frontrunner to play Batman.

Lachy Hulme Interview
Saturday, September 16, 2006

Alright dude, you know I’ve got to ask you about this -- What’s the deal with The Joker and how in the hell did you get in the mix for the part?

LH: You guys, that’s how. Your website, man. The first I heard of it, someone rang me to say that they’d heard on the radio that I actually had the part, and this was before BATMAN BEGINS had even come out, so this was early 2005. And on the radio, they were apparently quoting from your site, so there you have it. Of course, I had to explain to my family that I wasn’t playing the part, but from that moment on, the media have been chasing me around asking for a quote, which I couldn’t give. But every other weekend down here, there would be some blurb or column in the papers talking about how I was the “front-runner” or some ****. Thank God Heath got the gig, ‘cause now the press can all **** off. But the Internet speculation has been extraordinary. Unbelievable!

Now I never reported it, but there was talk that you met with Chris Nolan. True?

LH: Never. Although, according to the Internet, not only have I met him, we’re now part owners in a racehorse together.

(laughs) What about Charles Roven?

LH: I’ve met Chuck, but not about Batman. I mean, we did talk about Batman, and certainly talked about all of the rumors about me playing The Joker, but nothing more than that. We talked more about some other projects he’s doing. But interestingly, about 10 minutes after I walked out of my meeting with Chuck, it was all over the Internet that I’d been there. News travels fast in Hollywood, mate. And funnily enough, news travels fast everywhere, because the only time I’ve ever talked about Batman was on radio in Melbourne, on Tony Martin’s show, and I made a few wisecracks about the Batman gig, and suddenly it’s all over the world that I’m in these so-called “secret talks” about playing The Joker. If memory serves, that was your site that picked all of that up. You guys are faster than CNN.

Did you screentest?

LH: No. As far as I know, no one did. No one was asked. Christopher Nolan strikes me as the kind of guy that doesn’t have to test actors anymore, certainly not for roles like The Joker. He knows who he wants, and he gets them.

Yeah, those times were actually great. When Christian Bale was cast, I think multiple nerdgasms erupted simultaneously.

Guy Pearce popped up again fro TDKR and The Riddler. It's scary how many people want a Memento reunion :funny:
