I'm wondering if Fury will turn over the keys to the (totalled) car in the season finale? Remove the omnipresent logos and the stockpiles of weaponry. Return SHIELD to a much smaller footprint as a spy agency.

Funding could be a problem, but given HYDRA involvement in
his parents murder
Stark may just put all of his money into cutting off the heads.
I can see Stark funding SHIELD just because Hydra could be funded by Quinn and Killian. It would be a pride thing.

I wonder if that guy really knows Fury. Could he have also confirmed that May is a good guy ? Or is Coulson right & May is lying ?

Good angle.
Plus, even though Fury would have a lot of 'splaining to do once Tony finds out Phil is still alive, the fact is that Tony is bound to be elated to find out he's not dead after all. He'd probably gladly start funding SHIELD if Coulson heads it up instead of Fury.

Yeah, and he had a big opportunity to do so last episode when he shot agent Hand and the camera lingered on him for a few seconds. I definitely noticed he hailed no hydra.

If the writers are angling for a triple agent reveal, they will have to explain those murders. And it better be convincing or I'll be pretty disappointed.

Well Ward is the #2 guy. So maybe he is not required 2 say Hail Hydra. Like everyone else

I doubt he's a triple agent, but I doubt he's Hydra either. Garrett is Hydra only because he saw joining as means to an end. It's been made pretty apparent that Garrett doesn't follow the Hydra ideology. Ward is loyal to Garrett and a part of Garrett's agenda separate from Hydra. Ward is to Garrett what Coulson is to Fury.

If Ward ends up on Coulson's side, it'll be through a change of heart, and through a decision he hasn't made yet. For the Whedonverse comparison, he'd be the show's Jane or Spike.

Alternatively, maybe Garrett first told him to join Coulson's team without explaining his ultimate goals or his connection to Hydra. Then a couple episodes ago Ward found out about Hydra. When Coulson pulled him aside, Ward and Coulson came up with a plan to spy on Garrett (who they know is evil now). Hand and her men are in on the secret and Ward is firing blanks. That sounds ABC happy ever after family friendly cop-out.

The cop-out is what I'm afraid of, though I don't suspect they will go that route.

Garrett having an agenda and using Hydra for his own means, as you mention, with Ward tagging along out of debt or loyalty to him, is the route I bet they take.

Does Marvel have the rights back to punisher? I'd love to see Punisher take out Garret and Ward.

Maybe Bucky now realizing that Cap told him the truth, goes on a vigilante rampage against Hydra, and the people who lied to him and he can rip Ward's head off with his bionic arm.

I love The Punisher idea. Marvel will be using Frank but maybe they'll save him for the Daredevil Netflix series.

That's a good point. If May is right, it wasn't Fury. It wasn't the Clairvoyant, because the Clairvoyant spent the season trying to find out what did happen to Coulson. That also implies that it wasn't Hydra, unless the Clairvoyant isn't privy to all of Hydra's moves (too low on the totem pole). That would imply a third party... AIM/Ten Rings would make some sense... sort of... not really. I mean, what motive would any organization have in fixing Coulson? Why would they let him return to duty?

He has a connection to Fury and a connection to the Avengers in a way. that's about all we know, unless there's something about his past before superheroes yet to be revealed.

Well, Stark knew about Coulson because he was there and Fury could have went to Tony right after his shawarma meal and death scare to get funding and his thoughts on "saving" Coulson who he had on ice like they did with Skye. Obviously Fury couldn't put all this in to play while he was trying to stop and invasion and the Council from nuking NYC.

Could RDJ be that big star Chloe Bennet was gushing over as the big guest star to end the season???

If RDJ is indeed a guest star, then kudos to Whedon and ABC for pulling off the greatest secret not to get leaked in film history. That's really what makes me think it isn't. If someone as big as RDJ were on set, with the Internet and everything, I would think it would leak all over the web.

I agree that Tony is probably funneling his massive wealth to help fund a lot of these organizations. That would also make sense that he helps fund Coulson rebuild SHIELD.

I somehow missed the Griffin reference. when and what was it?

Garret mentions the first time he visited the Fridge he was bringing In Johnny Horton, who had turned his hands into lions paws.

Another great ep, I've fully bought into Evil Ward now. I just hope he sticks around. Would be a shame to kill him off just as everyone else is starting to find him interesting.

Agreed. Even if Ward's main plot threads are resolved by the season finale I hope they keep him alive. He can be a recurring character throughout future seasons, a constant thorn of betrayal in their side.

I could see it being RDJ as the guest star that Chloe Bennett was gushing over. Especially now with Maria Hill working for him. If it's not RDJ though, it could be one of the other Avengers.

Because I highly doubt that Bennett would be gushing over Patton Oswalt or Adrian Pasdar.

She could be a Heroes fan girl

If she was smart, she would have left Heroes before season four. Season three was dreck with the whole "Robert Forester as Nathan and Peter's Father" storyline.

Samuel L Jackson has been confirmed for the season finale, and he's certainly worthy of gushing. Though SLJ made a prior post-credit appearance on the show, he only interacted with Clark Gregg.

Jackson would have made sense, but Chloe's comments were made weeks before SLJ said that he was appearing in the season finale.
