All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - - - Part 13

If they really wanna make something in a different universe with JL, I say screw that and put a different angle on the team-up effort. Go that step further and just make Kingdom Come already. That'd be a welcome approach to Marvel's family-friendly Avengers and it'd stick with WB's darker trademarks.

Maybe KC would work better as a mini-series though, but that'll never happen.

You know, I love this idea. KC would be a cool story (more mini-series though) and it would tap into one of the powers of DC left untapped with regards to the public at large. At the start of DC movies they always show that montage of images of the character from different comics. Why not flash those same images in addition to alternate universe versions. Think of Superman, play the regular montage but include an image of CR, DC, BR, as well as maybe an Ultraman too. Or the opening montage of a Batman movie with all the regular comic images but flashed in there maybe an AW, MK, VK, GC. It'll go a ways to establishing that these are all different versions of the characters and all are valid. Just an easy shortcut to introduce the concept and have a story like KC happen.

I was interested in JL back when we once thought that current superman (routh) was in it, once it was found out he wasnt, I lost interest.
It will be the same this time. no cavill, no interest, at least from me there won't be, and i'm sure I wont be alone.

Right, however, Nolan's Universe still has things that I wouldn't want carried over to a connected DC Universe. For example, now he's not even Batman anymore and JGL's character has taken his place. If it's not Bruce Wayne, it's not the true Batman imo. Not to mention he doesn't even have Alfred anymore and even Robin was handled differently(His name is literally Robin?). I want a Batman who fights better than he has been shown to so far, makes all the gadgets himself(Not depending on Lucius), uses Batarangs, has a Batmobile(Not the tumbler or Batpod), villains that are still dark, yet closer to their comic versions(Bane with his venom, a Catwoman who's actually called Catwoman and has her whip, Scarecrow who's not just some guy in a suit with a mask; The only time we saw him full-on Scarecrow was briefly toward the end of Batman Begins... A Two-Face that's not dead, a Bane that's not dead, a Ra's that's not dead, a Talia that's not dead), a Gotham that actually looks like Gotham, etc. These are the things that Nolan's universe did not offer.

I can respect that. I don't think you are going to get it though considering any director will want to put there own spin on it. For me, Nolan will probably get the closest to the comics as possible.

They managed to cherry pick from my favourite batman stories. Use, arguably, the best villains and really had things like batarangs and 3 vehicles. To me its how you frame it, I like the comics but realistically your never going to get an exact copy.

I thought Burton did things very well too, but the great thing with batman is that there are so many interpretations.

As for the villains dying, sorry but these stories are not infinite, they have endings, can't agree with you there. I didn't really need to see two-face running around because all that needed to be said about his character was. As for robin, I thought that was a great nod to the fans, but I see people's problem with it.

I think ultimately, Nolan's series focused on bruce wayne, the hero, which is what MOS should strive to do. And it did something that no superhero film has done, given a great ending where the audience can imagine where the characters end up while still having an ending that was satisfying should nothing else happen.

Yes, heroes are only as good as their villains, but I want the hero to be the best part of the story, isn't that why we watch these films.

I used to think getting as close to the comics was important, but i really don't care that much anymore, as long as they keep the essence true to the source and make some changes for the story I'm good. I just want to see a good film at the end of the day. I'm hoping MOS can deliver that.

I don't think it's right to say that Nolan will be the director who gets the movies as closely to the comics as possible when we haven't seen what a future Bat-franchise can offer(Although I understand that is your opinion). I know these franchises are not infinite, but unlike Nolan's franchise, this will be a Batman in a connected DC Universe; a universe in which I want his iconic villains to still be present and alive. Batarangs weren't really present in the movies except for Begins when he had a sharp form of them. The ending wasn't as satisfying to me because Bruce Wayne was not Batman, and some guy literally named Robin took his place. I guess that's all personal preference and opinion, though. I'm not asking for an exact copy of the comics, but I know there are directors out there who are capable of delivering something closer to the Arkham Asylum games when it comes to Batman.

I don't think they should bother making a Justice League movie until they've done at least one of Flash and Wonder Woman.
I still wanna know why Goyer's Flash was turned down. It sounded like it could have been really cool, and Reynolds was the front runner at the time.

Was there a script or a plot synopsis released? I don't know anything about it, other than that Goyer was working on a Flash project.

Just a few details here and there. Reynolds was Wally, taking over after the death of Barry. Bradley Cooper would have been Hunter Zolomon, a friend of Wally's and a cop. After a tragic accident Hunter becomes the new Zoom and tries to make Wally a better hero and teams up with Captain Cold to bring tragedy to his life. Cold would have been Robert Patrick I think. Through time travel Barry would have bee able to play a supporting role.

sounds pretty solid. Reynolds and Cooper are both pretty boy actors, but neither is actually a bad choice for their respective characters.

So any word on when we might be getting some new info ( trailer , pics etc ?)

Heard the other day it was going to be in front of The Hobbit. Something many assumed anyway.

Yeah pretty much a given, I still think they should stick the next one infront of Twilight imagine all those girls seeing Henry they'd be a good audience to try and attracy. I'm still holding out hope we get a prologue or 8 min preview of some kind with Hobbit on IMAX.

Exactly what I said on Modern Myth Media podcast. Couldn't agree more.

Do anybody else think they'll have zod meet baby kal-el on krypton in mos?I would put any kinda money on it, that it happen. It's a nice way to distance itself from the donner film.

Would be the logical choice although i do like BH/HHH idea of having the trailer attached to Twilight ( as much as i hate that franchise) and have a proloque attached to Hobbit.
That would be great.

And unlike MI-4 , WB can affors to attach the prologue to all ( IMAX) prints . WB limited the amount of prints for the TDKR prologue but that was due to MI-4 being a Paramount movie.

Hopefully we'll get more news in the coming weeks. God knows we need that right now...

We have to keep in mind the length of the Hobbit. The trailer couldn't be attached to TDKR because of it's lengthy runtime.

Can someone tell me when there is a version of that video I can watch?

I know I hate that we can't view certain videos cause we aren't in the US. I still haven't seen the Shannon video where he says some crazy Zod line (which i'm sure isn't in the movie before people start)

If you have the "modify headers" add-on for Firefox, the fake US IP address that works for The Daily Show also seems to work for MTV. (It does for me, anyway; I'm in Canada.)

Not sure which line you mean. Is it the line where he asks Kal-El if he can speak his native tongue?

Zod speaks in Kryptonian “Do you know your native tongue, Kal-el?” Superman looks stunned, and responds in English, “Who are you?”

If that's the one, I don't know why you're sure that one's not going to be in the movie. Sounds about right to me. If that's not the line you mean then never mind.

We don't even know if Man of Steel was filmed in IMAX to warrant an IMAX prologue.

There may just be a sizzle reel released online.
