i know people say 75/80. but nobody was expecting it. and that's fine. i finally saw it yesterday. it was so bad. I was amazed. I don't want them touching the other comics if that's the effort they're gonna put in the story. Me and my friend pretty much moved on from it already.

(Sigh)

Anyone remember the days when $53 million for an opening weekend was actually considered good, or am I just really old?

If anything... a lesson WB should learn a lesson with GL that dumping hundreds of millions of dollars into a project - ANY project - is a huge risk.

The increased costs to making movies, the amount of dough focused on marketing (more than making the movies themselves), the costs of tickets nowadays (with and without the 3D/IMAX bump) and the short lifespan of a film in theaters in general. I remember when a movie could be #1 for more than one weekend and that was considered normal, and the movie in question could still be a flop.

Not just you.

I remember when a total dom take of a 100/120 mill was considered a smash hit, and it wasn't that long ago.

not to mention the amount of movies being released now-a-days. the summer is saturated with blockbuster movies. the winters are beginning to be the same way.

A lot of people are wondering if The Man of Steel will have the same fate. IMO if a disappointing Superman movie still made $200m, there are good chances of doing better.

Just rewatched some of SR today. I actually never noticed just how dark and colorless the movie is. 2 pretty big mistakes if you ask me. Superman should have an overall bright and colorful palette and not a dark and dull one. Batman is the dark and muddy one. All wrong for Supes.

The plane-sequence still kicks butt though. CGI-Superman or not, it's great watching some flying action. MOS better deliver this en masse.

So you're saying is that he acts similar to Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen, then progresses to being the Superman we know and love? I find that to be interesting, especially if done right.

Not quite as bad as Dr.Manhattan who is emotionally insipid, but sort of detached.

In a way similar in as much as he doesn't understand humanity's problems initially because he knows he end wars overnight and instead goes around trying to find his place in the world.

Then Zod shows up and gives him the perfect answer to his problems. Why not end all these wars and lead humanity into a new era of utopia. Of course things will not be as they seem....

shooting starts in July now instead of August from what I've been seeing/hearing

oh, i think i didn't make myself clear enough. i didn't say that superman should be perfect. he isn't perfect as a matter of fact. he has faults.

i just said that he isn't one of us. he isn't a layman like us who concern about the daily issues and meeting ends.

he feels pain. but not the way of pain we feel.

i said he has a 'higher' understanding of life. he is 'sorta' like a freak or a genius, whose thinking is kinda 'unique' to us. we would go "what the heck!!!???" to some of his response to certain issues, but there is a deeper meaning in his response.

besides, the character development on the main character like u said on spidey and luke; i would like to see the character grown on the people around superman/clark kent, that they have been inspired by his 'thinking'.

If we go by those standards for Superman, then we have exactly what Jor-el wanted for Superman in the Donner Era, which in my honest opinion, is too much to ask for considering how the character has changed in the comics since then.

If my memory serves me correct, given how Superman has been written within the last 2-3 decades (where Clark is the predominant Persona), although Superman may appear god like, he was still raised with the mindset of a human being.

One of his most notable issues that he’s struggled with in life has always been his feeling of loneliness, of being the last of his kind and not really having someone to talk to when he was growing up who he could truly relate with. Then there’s the fear that I’m sure a lot of us have felt that Superman has been known to have, and that is the fear of ending up alone in life.

Sure, he doesn’t worry about things like meeting his bills and rent on time like a lot of us do, but he can get frustrated over the some of same things that we do as well; heck, as much as Clark loves Lois or respects Batman/WW, they all end up frustrating him at times with their antics.

I also remember reading a issue where Clark was stressed about meeting a deadline for a article due to having to work and balance it out with his heroic duties as well.

And I’m sure that prior towards becoming Superman, that like all of us have asked ourselves, he had wondered on what or who he would end up becoming in life when he was growing up, especially with powers like his and how he’d fit in society.

Here's Newsarama's "10 Things We Want in SUPERMAN Reboot MAN OF STEEL" - http://www.newsarama.com/comics/10-things-we-want-in-man-of-steel-110620.html

Most (especially the origin and the score) is pretty spot on when looking at it logically considering it IS a reboot.

But damn, there are so many aspects to consider here, all of it important to the movie. I hope they're doing their research properly as well as putting it all together into something that makes sense.

i agree with them 98% (i don't want Krypton and his origin done so quickly or skipped entirely). they've pretty much captured what all the fans have been talking about the last 4 years...

Yeah, they definitely "get it" and so does alot of the fanbase. It seems like there's a general overall understanding concerning the various details and aspects. One would think it would be easy to make this movie with all of those aspects laid out like that.

They nailed it.

Yeah that list is top notch. Nothing in it that I don't agree with.

I want to see Krypto the Super-Dog
(Runs, ducks and hides...)
;)

yup, very tough, but if they want the public and fans to identify this as a new Superman, then they have no choice...and this is coming from someone who loves the williams superman theme.

That article has the first origin/reboot argument that I actually liked. Mainly because unlike the fanboys here, they didnt spend half their argument ranting on SR or Donner.

i just watched Sucker Punch agian. the extended version. and i realized how bad the acting was.

i think i now understand why the casting on MOS i so good. i think Nolan and WB realized that Snyder just can not get good acting out of hes actors. so they thought that it will be easier for him if he has good actors. now i dont know how this will work with Cavill. but it 100% explains Adams casting. she is a fantastic. one of the best. so if Snyder will do bad on the set then i think Adams wil be able to save the scenes. Snyder needs experienced actors with talent. and he got them. very smart from WB to do this.
