So I ended up going with another friend to see Oblivion again, this time on IMAX. STILL got the old trailer. That's once on a regular viewing, and once on IMAX now. Uber-annoyed. I thought the main point of making these trailers in the first place was, ya know, putting them in front of movies. I'm dying to see this trailer in a theater (and I'm sure as hell not giving any more of my money to that mediocre movie). Help me IM3, you're my only hope!

Hopefully Disney speaks Star Wars and has Marvel give us what we want :jedi:hehe:

Well! It only took me 5 days to catch up to this thread.:o
Loved the trailer for the most part. The last third of it was just strangely edited. I dont care though. The opening shot of Jor-El overlooking the battlefield made the trailer amazing! Add Zimmer's score and... *swoon*

I'm sorry to bring up Grace Randolph's opinion again but:
The only reason she annoys me is her opinions being formed and guided mainly by her biases and just really bad reasoning. One of her biggest knocks against 'Young Justice' was it's scheduling. Wait. What kind of asinine gripe is that against the show itself?! She also didn't like that it was based on an alternate earth... Uh, what superhero cartoon series isn't based on an alternate earth from the comics? Oh, that's right, none. I don't want a page for page, panel for panel interpretation. Ever. Cartoons, live action shows AND especially movies.
/stupid rant

I'll always be a bigger fan of Batman, but you get Superman right, and nothing, not one superhero can match the scope and scale of his story. I hope that's what we've got here. I am very optimistic based on what we've seen so far.

Nailed it.

What would be the best approach for Justice League in terms of tone?

Well I think the DC Universe and the Marvel Universe are massively different in tone anyway, so as long as they understand where those differences come from it should be fine.

In terms of story, one of the biggest differences I can see is that the JL have no 'organisation' behind it like SHEILD. The JL form themselves, they aren't formed by people on earth who think it's a good idea to get all the heroes to work together. It is the primary members of the Justice League themselves that see other heroes emerging and realise that it'd be best if they introduced themselves to each other and figured out what their agendas are, because eventually they are going to run into each other and it's better they be allies than rivals.

There are also a lot more worlds to explore in a JL film.

Unlike Avengers, where the only member who is from out of this world is Thor (and they didn't exactly show much of Asgard in the Avengers film), JL has several members from other worlds.

Themyscira, Atlantis, Oa and Mars can all be featured in the film if they wanted to. And beyond that, I think just using more interesting settings on earth would change the whole scope (for example, having something go down in the desert, or even over the sea like in New Frontier with the Centre hovering over the coast).

Not to mention the fact that a lot of the members of the Justice League have pretty strong morals and ideas of how to be the best hero, which always makes for interesting dynamics between the team.

Now, I have no idea what their plan is. I have no idea if they can pull it off at all. But if they do go ahead with it, it doesn't HAVE to be a total disaster. And it doesn't HAVE to pale in comparison to Avengers.

So I was reading on Facebook someone spotted what looks like Starro in a Man of Steel trailer, anyone confirm this yet?

Up for debate; there's definitely a large circular object (which I suppose could be a giant eye) with at least a few massive mechanical legs on it. Some say Starro, some say run-of-the-mill robot.

I have no intelligent guess myself. Guess we'll see.

I thought it was confirmed the legs belong to Black Zero?

Well it would make sense to introduce the character first even if it's an infant variation.

yeah it is'nt starro
Fans have probably already guessed that the strange, tentacled "creature" seen battling Superman in the trailer is actually Zod's ship, The Black Zero. “It was prison ship that he retrofits, and that’s what he comes to Earth in,” says producer Deborah Snyder.

That quote gives us too much credit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i don't think anyone really guessed that it was the Black Zero prior to the article. The major fan guesses were an Incredibles-style giant robot, Brainiac, or some kind Kryptokraken.

Yeah but here's the thing though, The Black Zero has three or four solid legs that don't look like they bend. This other thing has tentacles that has pincers, or so it looks. I'm not saying that it's Starro and it's still most likely The Black Zero, but just a thought.

Here's the so-called "Black Zero", if that is really the Black Zero:

And here's a screencap of the thing that attacked Superman, look at the ribbing in both photos:

And this, the "beam" that Superman seemingly to be fighting against:

I think that the last two of these are sequences from the same moment. Considering the various reports about Kryptonian technology being organically derived, it make perfect sense to me that the "Black Zero" resembled an Earthly form of Cephalopod.

Wow, Superman will sure have his hands filled with the amount of enemies that he'll have to contend with in this film. From Black Zero, Faora, Zod's minions (other Kryptonians and possibly robots), to General Zod himself, and even some interference from the US Army.

okay that answers that. Was just curious really. Just thought starting JLA somewhere in Man of Steel would make some sense.

my guess is its some kind of early form of brainiac. it probably wont even be called that, but could lead to it later on.

What would be the best approach for Justice League in terms of tone?

personally, i'd stay away from JL for now and make a WF with Bats and Supes instead. Thats where the banks at. Then after that, a solo Flash film and possibily a teamup film with ww and either aquaman or mm. If all that went well, then perhaps make JL. WF first tho.

He can handle it :p

I'm not sure if Superman is fighting that beam, per se. It looks like he resists it for a bit then flies straight up, maybe into the ship itself?

I think so, too. It's VERY close to Earth One (Which Goyer has a blurb on). But instead of escaping the beam, as you say, he'll probably struggle to his feet, assume the flight position and fly straight up as an extra 'prove how tough I am, screw you Zod' type of moment.

And it will be awesome. :D
