I still think Watchmen has the best performances of a non-Nolan CBM. JEH is a beast.
i love watchmen while i loved jeh

billy crudup was the stand out for me mostly because imo manhattan is one of the hardest characters to get right

an emotionally detached from humanity character and not make him boring

crudup nailed it

Really? Most people I know see 300 as an over-the-top, ridiculous parody, a so bad it's good sort of movie and response to Watchmen seemed pretty pretty mixed. So I don't think this is the case of someone with a solid filmography and one dud.

The 300 comic was just as over the top and ridiculous as the movie was. Perhaps he added too much slow motion and maybe having the added in wife plot was unnecessary but the film is hardly a parody of the source material.

Watchmen is pretty mixed because you take the "best" graphic novel ever and you are going to get mixed reviews no matter what. With as long and complex as the comic is I don't see anyone pulling it off much better. Except having the squid in it.

Crudup was casting perfection as Dr. Manhattan, but, for me, the stand out was JEH's Rorschach.

WHAT???? May I know where you got the "most people' part...

In fact, everyone I know absolutely loved 300, both men/women... I have yet to find someone who didn't... you are the first, actually...

It's definitely one of my favorites.. and it'll be a classic for sure... IMO

Most people I know as in my friends, family and acquaintances. To them, it is a pop culture joke. A punchline at parties.

most friends of mine and even family see it as a bad ass action spectacle :yay:

butler doesn't get enough credit for his performance he commands the screen in 300

yes the story is actually about sweet pea slash film chimed in on this in a long article

Hmm that's interesting. Like i said there was some good ideas there somewhere it's just the actual application of them was off. It tried to do too many things and didn't particularity succeed at all.

It will be interesting to see how much of a snyder stamp will be on MOS? To me his best work is arguably the watchmen intro set to the times are a changin.

What worries me is WB. I am worried that they are pressuring the creative team to have an all action film with very little substance to overcompensate with the perceived failure of Superman Returns.

having the previous emotional trailers showing the emotional drama of clark struggling to be one of us not a hint at substance i dont know what is

I doubt that. From what I understand, Goyer's pitch is what won over the people in charge at WB. Plus, I think it's a knowing fact that putting lots of action within a superman film isn't what's going to revitalize his character for today's audiences. It's been said by everyone involved with the project on how important it was for them to present a story where people could really feel for Clark's struggles.

Ah... probably a family or genetic thing... heh! *just joking*... I guess everyone's different...

I can tell you for sure, all my friends loved it... it was over the top, sure, but that's precisely why we loved it... it was the first of it's kind... but anyone trying to do the same now would be 'getting old'...

OOoooh yeah... bad ass indeed... loved it..

Of the top of my head, Dredd, Scott Pilgrim, Men in Black, Captain America, Sin City, Red, V, the Crow, both Hellboys, Iron Man, and Kick-Ass.

300 is a fun film because it is ridiculous. It is the movie you joke and laugh about while watching it.

I think you need to watch more film. Heck, you don't even need to go back that far. Sin City did it better a couple years before it came out.

Too be fair, I have seen my fair share of misleading trailers.

I am trying to stay away from seeing too much. I think I saw trailer 3 which shows a little bit of emotion, but I've been fooled by trailers before.

See, that is how I would describe T2, and 300 is no T2.

i know it isn't but i dont see 300 as some film to laugh at it has a serious story of love, war, fight for your country and 300 men standing to fight against thousands with solid performances

it is quite an enjoyable stylish rated r action film

It isn't a serious story though, or at least it isn't delivered as such, and the dialogue is laughable really. There is a reason the how "This is Sparta" thing is a joke.

But the hacking, slashing, and Butler's delivery make it a lot of fun. But it isn't Gladiator, Spartacus or Kingdom of Heaven. Those are films with strong takes on love, war and the concept of what is true and right.

I liked 300, could be my least favorite Snyder film, but it's good and refreshing.

it's not a parody tho it is'nt ben hur but it does have a serious story and the performances aren't tounge and cheek it is a very fantasy based film with some cheesyness that is all

Yeah I totally disagree with every film you stated but V.
Which is your right. But I'd take them all easily. It is the Superman thread so I won't go to into depth.

It isn't trying to be tongue n' cheek, but that is how it is best received imo. It isn't Batman and Robin, but it is not any of the sword and sandal classics either. It is just a lot of fun, like a good, but not great 80s action movie.

It is more Cobra or Commando then Die Hard or Lethal Weapon.

I don't think using "This is Sparta" as a joke means the film is a joking matter.

Do "I'm your father" jokes make Star Wars a joke?

The Star Wars scene is very different. It is a revered classic moment.

It isn't a slowed down kick into a pit that begs to be laughed at. I mean come on. Huge pit in the middle of the town, and he kicks him into it yelling "This is Sparta". :funny:

"This is Sparta" has more in common with "They say you killed younglings" or "NOOOOOOOOOO", then Vader's classic line. Unintentional comedy.

I guess most of the people watched 300 just ones and remember the " This is Sparta" Part and that`s why they think 300 is a funny movie.

Think about Star wars you remember alot of other scenes. The only parts of 300 i remember are "this is sparta", a fat gold dude and the Cliff scene well and all the half naked dudes....

I understand it's funny to you, but I don't get what's funny about a huge pit. It certainly isn't funnier than a huge death star :)
