The Star Wars scene is very different. It is a revered classic moment.

It isn't a slowed down kick into a pit that begs to be laughed at. I mean come on. Huge pit in the middle of the town, and he kicks him into it yelling "This is Sparta". :funny:

"This is Sparta" has more in common with "They say you killed younglings" or "NOOOOOOOOOO", then Vader's classic line. Unintentional comedy.

I didn't realize how funny that line was until now.

i know it isn't but i dont see 300 as some film to laugh at it has a serious story of love, war, fight for your country and 300 men standing to fight against thousands with solid performances

it is quite an enjoyable stylish rated r action film
My friend worked on the sound mixing for Meet the Spartans (meaning he had to watch it hundreds of times), before he ever saw 300. We sat down to watch 300 one day and he could not stop laughing. It was Meet the Spartans' fault. :oldrazz:

But yes, it was pretty enjoyable for someone who hasn't seen Meet the Spartans. :cwink: And the violence was stylized enough that it actually didn't bother me much.

All over the net, I see many people writing excuses not to go and see MOS like --

* Why are they making another Superman movie ? I would rather see them make some other DC superhero movie, Superman is a boyscout and he is boring, as he is just too powerful, not relateable.

* I don't trust trailers, they have fooled me in past, I would rather wait for DVD.

* I don't think that MOS will be great as the writer of Ghost Rider and Blade 3 has written it, I don't like Snyder as Director either, his last three movies have bombed and I hate Nolan, he is pretentious filmmaker who makes dark movies, not right for Superman.

* I am a Marvel fan, always have been, nothing WB/DC does is interesting to me as they don't know how to make a good comic book movie.

* Superman Returns was so bad that I have decided not to watch another Superman movie in theater, not giving away my money this time.

* I saw Smallville and hated it, Superman is not my fav. hero.

How to convince such people ?

What's even funnier is I don't remember laughing during Meet the Spartans.

I am trying to stay away from seeing too much. I think I saw trailer 3 which shows a little bit of emotion, but I've been fooled by trailers before.

It has substance, they have shown Clark as a kid dealing with his powers and alienation, his relationship with his parents, Clark trying to find his place in the world (fisherman, etc). David Goyer wrote Batman Begins too with Nolan, there's no reason to worry. The thing is, will people care enough? The last Star Trek, despite being a good movie, is underperforming, there are no guarantees.

I think marketing was also a big reason why STID is underperforming. MOS seems to be getting great marketing so far. That, and I think Superman has way more reach than Star Trek.

Ignore them.

You don't even know how many people they actually are, especially if they're over "the net." For one, I actually haven't come across ANYONE (besides on SHH and IMDB and Youtube) who hates Nolan. He actually commands quite a bit of respect in the general public. That's why they're putting his name in everywhere. :oldrazz:

They're probably the same 5 people who have nothing better to do than troll on the internet spouting off about their hate. :oldrazz:

The sane folks who are ambivalent, will be easily swayed if one of their friends mentions MOS was excellent. That's how WOM works.

After seeing it a few hundred times, my friend probably would have rather gouged out his eyes with a rusty spoon. :o

But all he could think of while watching 300 was how Meet the Spartans had turned into whatever line/plot point as a joke.

You can't convince zealots or morons, but normal, reasonable people are liking the trailers and tv spots, the buzz is very positive so far:

Man of Steel has been capturing serious attention from more than just die-hard comic fans. The buzz around the Internet--including our own forums--suggests that the seemingly balanced approach of character and epic action are turning this into an event film.

The proof is in the numbers:

One month out from the film's June 14 debut, Man of Steel totaled 10,910 tweets during our five-day tracking period. That activity was 78 percent stronger than The Amazing Spider-Man at the same point last year. It's even 51 percent ahead of The Dark Knight Rises and, impressively, just 18 percent behind that of Iron Man 3. The first wave of ticket sales beginning on Tuesday is a contributing factor to the increasing buzz right now. Even better news: the day following our tracking period saw 18,392 tweets alone thanks to the online release of the film's latest trailer.

Man of Steel: 10,910 tweets
Iron Man 3: 13,315 tweets
The Dark Knight Rises: 7,236 tweets
The Amazing Spider-Man: 6,123 tweets
Marvel's The Avengers: 23,203 tweets

Lastly, Man of Steel really shines on Flixster. Through May 22, the film carries a 97 percent "want to see" score from 79,419 users. That's only 16 percent behind Iron Man 3's number of anticipated voters at the same point in its release cycle, and nearly 11 percent ahead of Star Trek Into Darkness. The newest Superman flick is also pacing far ahead of Captain America: The First Avenger, which had 22 percent fewer voters on the day before its actual release in 2011.

The BoxOffice team is currently forecasting $108 million for the film's opening weekend and $325 million for its domestic run. We'll continue to analyze and update our expectations for Man of Steel as its global debut approaches.

Every big film will have certain groups shout against it for all sorts of unreasonable reasons, this happened since films and filmmakers fans reached the state of "brand loyalty", and will continue to happen as long as some film goers treat different films as a competitive sporting teams.

I could see how that would be hilarious. Your friend is a strong man. :funny:

Hope they actually see few of these recent spots. The trailers my not have sold them.

Hard to argue against that.

God, I love this thread. Most of the time when you think you have something interesting to say or speculate about Man of Steel, you'll be lucky if you get a handful of responses on a good day. Make one off the cuff remark about people you know thinking 300 is a joke of a frat boy movie that you don't think twice about and it gets 3 pages of discussion. :word:

i always laugh when people say i dont care for superman the character what i have come to notice is they dont even know the character as much as they think

and when people say this film looks great and makes him interesting and relatable i always say this is how superman is in the comics if you actually read

That's because we have been discussing MOS on this thread over 66,000 times.. hehehe...

Also, just goes to prove how many people actually liked 300!!

Precisely. I have a friend who is still a skeptic regarding Man of Steel because he "never cared for" Superman, more of a Batman guy. I can't wait for him to see this because it always baffled me why he didn't like Superman. If there is any superhero my friend should relate to, it's Superman. He's straight as an arrow, always trying to do the right thing, grew up in a rural area and was invested with a strong moral compass, and is currently adrift in life trying to find a career helping people (wants to join the police). Also, he's even 6'2", fair skinned with jet black hair, blue eyes, and a muscular build. :oldrazz: I have a funny feeling, his opinion will change greatly come June 14.

I know it shouldn't be this way (being in a superman thread) but I think it's normal.

We have a lot to say about topics we don't discuss everyday in this thread :)

I re-watched Sucker-punch recently...god it was even worst. Now Snyder has a flair for the visual there i'll give him that and that should prove valuable for MOS but the story was a confused mess not sure what it wanted to be.

I'm hoping Nolan, the writers and others maybe reigned in snyder somewhat with regards to the film. I think he has some good stuff but left to his own design entirely might not be the best thing.

Go and watch the Owl movie(again if you haven't already). You will also see what happens when Zack is left to "his own devices".

I think people are sometimes losing sight of just what directors often set out to do. I'm not going to say Snyder set out to make a confusing meandering film, but I'm 100% certain he didn't finish the script and say, "this is my best attempt at a coherent story."

For christ sakes there is a raging debate to this day, on weather the lead character is a figment of a supporting characters imagination. It's not a straight forward clear story. It could have been better but anyone concered that this is Snyder's crutch and thus his trademark should take solace in the simple fact that this next film will aim to be clear and straight forward from the outset.

I see this same thing when people say the original spiderman is about 3x more clear and focused than Watchmen....um if watchmen was clear and straight forward, that would be just as big a fail.
Given the audience and the source material, Spiderman is probably more clear and concise than that Baraka movie too.

Long story short, go watch that owl movie, it's painfully "well told". If at that point you still think Zack has an issue getting a clear story out, more power to you. Till then rest assured, this won't be another Sucker Punch(even the title implies the film isn't for everyone).

I do hope that the colors of this film look better on the big screen since I'm still not really digging the desaturated dark colors that they've applied onto the footage for some of the shots.

I really liked Sucker Punch, and I like it more with every view.

It didn't succeed in delivering its ambitious premise, but it was really good.

How the heck has Iron Man 3 became the 5th highest grossing film of all time?

Don't ask me. I'm still puzzled why and how Avatar and Titanic made it to the top of the list.
