All Things Superman: An Open Discussion

I think my point was not the article that is very old, but his Superman choice. Anyways, all his interviews show how much misguided he was regarding Superman and assures he should never touch Superman again. EVER!

It could also be how they introduce Kryptonite. Superman is hurt by the collision and remants of it fall to earth, and Lex realizes the connection and sets out to find the meteorites.

How about NO LEX for the next 2 movies?? :awesome:

So here's a question for anyone interested in answering this:

Should Zod and Superman be presented as the only kryptonians on Earth? Or should they actually go down the route that SV had taken, and have Zod arrive on Earth with a legion of Kryptonians for a kryptonian invasion?

Personally, I would just prefer Zod to be the only kryptonian menace on Earth since, if you really do add two more members to his group, then there would be more complaints that it’s a rip off of Superman II.

Furthermore, if you gave Zod an army of kryptonians, then one must wonder on how the heck will Clark be able to defeat them all without the usage of something special from the FOS?
.

How about they have Zod "die" in this movie, never to be re-hashed again??

Well technically, Zod did die in the theatrical cut that was presented in SII, and yet here we find him again gracing our big screens once more.lol

I've only seen Superman Returns three times.

I was prowliing the Comicbook movie website and i found this article http://**************.com/fansites/CaveOfSolitude/news/?a=35472.Its a very interesting piece on how Kryptonians could be introduced into the story and it goes seamlessly with Birthright.
I also had an idea on how the clark kent disguise could be used in movies. They could say that Clark has never had a hair cut in his life due to havin invulnerable hair-as a result he has extremely long hair.He also has been wearing thick lense glases to hide his alien blue eyes from the public since childhood. However when changing into superman,he uses superspeed to brush and compress his long hair until it turns into the trademark superman hairstyle. He also reveals his alien eyes to the world as Superman.

Yeah, it annoys me when people bring up SR and BB made the same amount of money, but then people go "Well SR cost 250 Million and BB cost 180 Million, so that doesn't count"

The people who went to see it didn't know that.

That's the reason why WB didn't make a sequel, but it isn't a reason to discount how the public rated it during it's original theatrical run, which was that it was just as good as Begins (Although DVD sales are a different matter)

Absoluetly right.

People don't go to see a movie more because it cost more. They go and see what they want, period. More people went to see SR than BB regardless of their budgets.

True, but similarly, the box office isn't an accurate representation of whether a movie is loved or hated.
People are alllllways gonna go see Batman and Superman with their kids or whatever.
BB was definitely received better than SR overall and that's what counts.

I just said that more people went to see one more than the other.

Yes, so they could have gone more to BB than SR the same way. But wasn't the case.

BB was definitely received better than SR overall and that's what counts.

I think its budget being smaller count too. More profit, you see.

Oh definitely. That's always a huge factor in the continuation of the franchise, but I just meant that in terms of the audiences perspective, Batman Begins is regarded as the better film, generally.

And SR is regarded as better than Transformers 2 but we all know which one is getting a sequel and why.

Batman Begins didn't get universally better review than Superman Returns, for example Rotten Tomatoes lists Batman Begins as better, whereas Metacritic lists Superman Reeturns as better.

It really is because it didn't earn enough money, considering a sequel was immediately commissioned and would have almost definitely happened had Singer not gone on to other projects.

romantic = flirting somebody wife / mother??? singer sets a new standard!

Agreed. I remember reading in some interview prior towards the film being released that Superman earning back his title as the world's greatest hero would be shown in the film, and yet when the film finally came out; I didn't see any of it.

In fact, based on what I saw of the public presented in Superman's world, it was as if Superman never really left to begin with.

Singer said that he wanted Superman's absence to really be felt and that he wanted to present something that would be a constant reminder on how things would never go back to the way they once were. Instead of choosing to focus on the more realistic and better suited material of showing on how Superman's departure left a terrible mark on the world, he chose instead to hurt both Superman's and Lois's character even more, by having it focused on a scenario that sounded like something 'Melrose Place' would have done.

There was no keen difference in Lex's personality from the way he was supposedly in the first donner film, so really, I couldn't buy into him wanting revenge or whatnot.

And from what I had heard, Singer had spent so much money on things that he ended up not using, and spent more money on covering up those mistakes.
ya. it's a wasted opportunity. the concept was great. but the execution sucks. nothing super at all. n fact, it is pain to rewatch it :(

Pretty weird that websites are picking this up now. That news was on VoicesOfKrypton almost a month ago?

Actually, that is not the story that was on VoicesOfKrypton that suddenly has made its way to many websites; this is different; it concerns an upcoming interview in Total Film magazine,
in which Bryan Singer states that if he were able to do a sequel, he would cast Nicholas Hoult as Clark Kent/Superman!
The interview itself is not provided there nor at Total Films website, so I'm assuming Steve Younis read an advance copy of it.
It looks like Singer is blaming Routh for SR not doing so well.
What a total jerk?
He should stop talking about SR; every time he opens his mouth, some new regret spouts out.
At the rate he is going, talking **** about those who worked with him in the past, he will soon become the Megan Fox of directors.
Poor Brandon, he doesn't deserve this slight; Routh has stood behind his work and SR in general since day one, and Singer should kiss his feet for that.
Bryan Singer is a total *******.
I hope the new X-men movie flops and Singer is forced to TV productions.

Parsing his comments down to the level of meticulous analysis probably isn’t worth the effort. :cwink:

Assuming Singer was quoted accurately…. To the hypothetical question, he offered a hypothetical answer – expressing interest in an origin/reboot. And in that context, he said he would cast someone like Nicholas Hoult (i.e., a younger actor).

I am so glas Singer was taken away after Superman Returns. I also think him saying he'd cast Nicholas Hoult shows how much he rates Brandon Routh.

I defended it only because it was Superman. But Singer really did a semi-disaster.

What disaster? It underpoerformed but it made good money and critically it got a healthy 76% of approval.

Now, Singer pissed off some fans. Big deal.

That's true. It was merely what SR did vs what was expected after all those years of expensive attempts.

I agree that Singer should have modernized the Donner universe more than he did and should have introduced the audience more into the Donnerverse. I doin't think many people remembered the crystals being able to buld the FoS for example or Luthor knowing the FoS itself, which is vital to get why Lex went there to start with.

What wife? Lois was not married. In fact she had refused to marry Richard, remember? And that's why Superman thought he had a chance with her. After all Lois WAS in love with him and not Richard. They both deserved a chance.

Could you provide us a link where Singer says he wanted someone else for Superman? All I read was that he would have used someone else if he had directed a reboot. Let's not forget that big part of choosing Routh was his resemblance to Christopher Reeve.

Look around the Man of Steel threads, it's been posted in a few places, he mentioned he'd pick someone like Nicholas Hoult.
