Here's some speculation on my part of a story for Batman v Superman which would allow it to naturally explore all the elements it needs to and to give a proper introduction for each character...

1. The world has a deep mistrust of Superman over the sheer devastation caused in Man of Steel;
2. Lex Luthor is sewing public paranoia about Superman's power;
3. Batman shares Luthor's dislike of Superman. The two may even come to some tentative agreement to take Superman out;
4. As the world heads towards a humanity vs Superman war, lead in daylight by Lex Luthor and at night time by Batman, Diana Prince attempts to find a diplomatic solution to the problem;
5. Aquaman exposes himself to mankind, denounces what occurred in the Indian Ocean in Man of Steel and calls for Superman to be brought to account. People are terrified that there are two people out there who have these abilities. Aquaman asks for Superman and promises to go back to the ocean quietly once he is delivered. If Superman is not delivered, Aquaman will hunt him himself;
6. Batman and Lex Luthor step up their efforts on Superman as the world becomes paranoid of a God v God war on Earth;
7. Batman uncovers the Clark Kent identity and begins targeting him in that persona;
8. Diana helps Superman evade the people hunting him and takes him to her homeland for protection (allowing Wonder Woman lore to be introduced);
9. Frustrated that they cannot find Superman, Lex Luthor unleashes some kind of secret weapon (Metallo, Doomsday, etc.) which creates a path of destruction;
10. The league "begins" when the heroes all team up to fight this threat;
11. Diana reveals her God-like powers. Known for her compassion and humanity, she brings faith in people for these "gods" and vouches for Superman;
12. Superman, with the aid of the League, defeats the weapon unleashed by Luthor;
13. Batman makes the choice to put some trust in Superman, while Luthor heads down a different path;
14. The League vows to protect humanity and to co-exist peacefully.
15. Darkseid tease.
