The talk of the new female role began in early September. Earlier in the summer an executive was asked about Wonder Woman. Which is where this begins: (Trade reporting websites > general movie websites > fanboy websites)

WB on Wonder Woman:

I think one of the biggest challenges at the company is getting that right on any size screen. Why is it that people think the female lead is Batman's love interest or Wonder Woman, never both?

IMO, its quite clear that Princess Diana a.k.a. Wonder Woman, as her 'Diana Prince' alter ego, will appear in this film as the love interest to Bruce.

I thing that get me is that latino review was the first to say that they were/are looking for a female lead and that was a love interest, has anyone actually asked him if he got that from a source or just presumed that was the case. I can see Diana looking like a love interest to the public when Bruce is Bruce and not Batman, but it being a friendship. If they are the same character, Diana will not be a love interest, thats for sure.

I wish people would let these characters be characters instead of coming up with a laundry list of "Batman can't be this" or "Superman has to be like this"

Just like Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye had no place in the Avengers films and just like Han and Leia's kids have no place in the next Star Wars films right?

Some of us are more interested in seeing a focused movie that nails clark, lois, lex than in seeing an avengers-style fanfiction orgy with a ton of characters.

i don't know. if this nightwing rumor pans out i think it's a waste to bring him in to this movie. save him for the affleck starring/directed batman movies. bring in the bat family then. or maybe nightwing is just a quick cameo.

I think this film has disaster written all over it. I'm sorry but the I don't think the time was right to have Batman and Superman together. I think adding more characters to the mix will only weight the film down even more then it all ready has. This film is starting to feel like a Batman film more then a Superman film.

They are rushing to get to a Justice League movie. They need to establish other characters origins first. There is plenty of time to team Batman and Superman. Give Superman time to spread his wings and develop other DC characters first then team the two up and lead in to a Justice League. They need to stop trying to compete with Marvel and do there own thing and take there time. Marvel is all ready head of them in the game and there is nothing they can do about that. They need to focus on individual characters for the time being and then move in to Justice League movie. I would say do a Batman Superman film right before Justice League.

So you want them to do their own thing and not copy Marvel…but you want them to establish everyone in solo films before JL…just like Marvel???

You think they should do one thing, and the people in the movie business are going to do something that probably isnt that (even though so far we have no idea what it is going to be so I dont know how you know they are rushing or not planning on developing other characters or whatever). Let the movie people do their jobs.
