Or maybe people saw the extended promo and decided not to watch it because it wasn't the Laurel from Earth-1 they THOUGHT they were going to bring back. That's another possibility.

Maybe, but that would be a bad way for them to have gone about it. The ratings did not go any lower than the lowest rated episode this season, and it would not have made it clear to the higher-ups that people were not watching because they did not get the Laurel they wanted. The Flash ratings went down to their 2nd lowest of the season too, so such a drop was expected, and there was also the Trump interview. The best way for them to have made it clear they wanted Laurel back was for the ratings to shoot up for the episode KC appears in, and then drop down when she leaves. Based on the Flash ratings dropping to their 2nd lowest of the season, just like Arrow, there is more evidence that the drop was not because of Laurel, but other factors.

Great... you know, I just want Guggenheim off the show, Laurel's character back on (even Siren), and Felicity to stop being a Sue. Although the latter two won't happen without the first. I want to be able to watch Arrow again with all the other shows.

So HOW do we make it clear that something needs to go?! How?! Because for goodness sake the show's rating are still plummeting and the one time they seemed to be giving the fans what they were asking for, meaning they understood what people wanted to see, and they do the exact OPPOSITE and expect people to keep watching.

If people want to make it clear they want a character back, the best way to go about it is for the ratings to go up when the character or actress associated with the character is on the show, and for them to drop when she leaves. The ratings going down to their 2nd lowest of the season a day after the Flash rating go down to their 2nd lowest of the season is not the best way.

They have been giving fans what they have been asking for, for the most part, this season, hence why comments on forums and social media have been mostly positive for the first 9 episodes, as well as articles reviewing the show.

And what exactly have they been giving them? I've avoided the show completely since Laurel died.

In any event, I'm not watching the show after this. I'd rather avoid the migraine and depression.

Just read episode threads for the first 9 episodes on here, other forums and articles reviewing the first 9 episodes.

Unfortunately the promo spoiling that it was Black Siren did no favors. I lost interest after that promo. And after hearing Felicity's role in last night's episode I'm glad i didn't see it.

Yeah, it was the worst episode of the season IMO. Hopefully it is not the start of a downward spiral.

We'll just have to to see how 5x11 does with a new Canary. While I want it to drop even further since im a bitter betty, i think they will tick up a bit.

This has been an absolute awesome season. I'm not sure there has been one bad episode. With that said, this last episode was pretty average at best following a mid-season finale. I agree with it being the worst of the season. Aside from this one though, it's been a highly entertaining season comparable to season 1 and 2.

MG on Black Siren:
Took Black Siren back from The Flash, put her back in Arrow which opened up more storylines for them to use her. They wanted to keep Black Siren close (thus sending her off to Argus instead of back to Central City). Yesterday in the writers room they were talking about all the potential Black Siren stories they could tell if Katie is up to do it. They don't try to play with peoples emotions, they break stories based on how interesting it is. He was recently driving and a scene popped into his head with Quentin and Siren meeting which he really wants to do. This isnt the last we have seen of Black Siren, again, if Katie is up to return.

On Tina Boland:
Greg Berlanti wanted a new Black Canary. Since they've had Sara Lance and Laurel Lance both take the Canary mantle, they wanted to do something different so they made her into a metahuman to switch things up.

I mean ... Laurel could have been a meta-human too if they had planned things out better.

Regarding the ratings, maybe more ppl are doing like some ppl I saw on the internet (and myself included) are doing. I'm not watching season 5, I've waited to see how Laurel's return would be but, since the episode got spoilered last month, I didn't bother to watch, and looking at the comments of what happened, I'm glad I didn't.

Common sense isn't their strong. Why treat a character whose been there since day 1 properly when you can bring in your own creation and not have fans expect anything of you in how you treat them? Especially when it's the characters 70th anniversary.

Also trying to get rid of Sara in the lame way that they did and then "replace" her with Laurel as BC backfired on them spectacularly. To the point that they had to bring Sara back from the dead and make her a big deal on another one of their shows.

So why, given that Laurel was finally being generally accepted in the role, they'd think that getting rid of her in order to try and do the same thing this new character, is beyond me? It didn't work before guys, so why would it work now?

I must've been the only guy on the planet who wasn't spoiled about Black Siren. While I'm not wild about this strategy for bringing Laurel back, I do kind of like how the crazy stuff from Legends and Flash is spilling over onto this show's usually pretty grounded world. It's a tic of the long-running comics that live-action TV has never been able to capture until we got flooded with supers.

I would argue that they didn't bring back Sara because they felt they screwed up on Arrow or were concerned about fan backlash (which, generally speaking, they don't appear to be). I think they brought back Sara because they needed a hook to get people to watch Legends. She's a bigger draw than Atom, Firestorm, Heatwave, or Captain Cold. It's basically Phil Coulson in Agents of SHIELD.

Anyway, I thought this story with Black Siren was a logical story to do. It isn't about toying with the fans so much as Oliver seeing redemption for himself in other people. So my complaint isn't so much that it isn't Laurel. However, the bigger problem I have is it's been done to death. I feel like this story happens once a year. Having Laurel's face doesn't really change the story.

And they keep killing off cool character in order to rehash the same story, and it's gotten really old.

Also they haven't exactly treated their females characters all that great this season either unfortunately.

They should get rid of Curtis, Mr Terrific is anything but Terrific

Disagree. I think Mr. Terrific is terrific. Certainly a much more interesting character than Ragman or Wild Dog. Or Thea for that matter.

The way they have Curtis be so physically incompetent makes me sad. That they've taken so long for him to actually go "Gadgeteering, here I come" makes me more sad. If they don't want him to actually become a decent fighter, they should at least have advanced the gadgeteering sooner.

You've avoided the show since Laurel died and you aren't watching after this. Ok! Wait, what?

Wild Dog is my favourite of the new characters this season. At first, I found him to be annoying as hell, but now he's grown throughout the season. Ragman's cool, but he's been pretty underused for the last few episodes.

I can't exactly keep track of all the episodes that's happened, although it certainly feels like a running theme this season. This latest ep's intent was unfortunately already outdone by that Dominator special, so I sort of wished Oliver would've really lost his mind this time after Black Siren revealed her true self. Maybe that rejection of his fabricated better life brought him back to his emotional center.

I feel like out of all of the Arrowverse shows that takes place on the same Earth, "Arrow" is the only show (thus far) that hasn't been given a new focus for the second half of its current season.

With Season 3 of "The Flash", they went from spending the first half of dealing with the Flashpoint arc and its repercussions to now trying to change the events that lead to Iris's death at the hands of Savitar.

With Season 2 of "Legends", they went with trying to figure out on who killed Rex Tyler and trying to take over the duties of Rip Hunter to now dealing with the Legion of Doom, preventing them from acquiring the Spear of Destiny, and rescuing Rip Hunter.

I have yet to see "Arrow" take that stance; unless them trying to get a new Black Canary is their supposed new focus for Season 5's second half.

I think Arrow had its pivot earlier - going from Tobias Church to Prometheus.
