The way they have Curtis be so physically incompetent makes me sad. That they've taken so long for him to actually go "Gadgeteering, here I come" makes me more sad. If they don't want him to actually become a decent fighter, they should at least have advanced the gadgeteering sooner.
I just think they're going with a slow burn with Curtis. He had literally zero experience with fighting when he started, despite being an Olympic athlete.

They took a lot of heat for how quickly Laurel became competent in the field, and when you think about it Laurel should have progressed more quickly than Curtis. She was raised by a cop, she was trained by a world class boxer, she was trained by a member of the League of Assassins, and she was seen as early as season 1 being okay in a fight with random goons.

We need to see Curtis get some sort of specific training, either from Oliver or Diggle, and watch him slowly get better for a few episodes before it starts to show in the field.

You've avoided the show since Laurel died and you aren't watching after this. Ok! Wait, what?

I do avoid watching it, but every now and then I see something that tells me what's going on, because a part of me wants to know if things have improved. So when I saw Laurel might be coming back, I watched the episode. What I meant was, I'm going BACK to avoiding it. Sorry if I mis-wrote that.

Laurel was never a very good adaptation of Black Canary to me. She never had the attitude and badass fighting skills Dinah has in the comics. I like Dinah Drake so far and she feels much more like comics BC. I'm hoping Arrow does right by the character this time.

Sinking suspicion this is Arrow's GCS.

Yeah pretty much. It might be a fun episode tho.

You know, I think it's very interesting (and telling) that every season, the flashbacks have shown Oliver learn something that he uses in S1, except S4. Now, Oliver uses his S4 flashback stuff in S4, but every other season, everything he learns in the flashbacks relates directly to S1.

S1 flashbacks: Survival skills from Yao Fei/basic fighting from Slade/shooting from Shado
S2 flashbacks: Better fighting from Slade/shooting from Shado (see the montage where he runs through his training course and significantly improves), minimal Russian from Anatoly
S3 flashbacks: Computer skills, espionage, and possibly some extra martial arts stuff from Tatsu and Maseo
S4: ??? from Taiana
S5: The rest of his combat skills from Talia (presumably)

So what, really, did he learn from Taiana? I think that's part of why I didn't like S4's flashbacks; they related more to his current S4 story than what he was actually learning in those flashbacks. He learned about the occult, sure, but that didn't help him in S4. Did Taiana teach him any Russian he didn't already know? That would be something, at least.

Wasn't his whole journey with Tiana about not letting the darkness in? Or to learn about a magic totem.

Right, but like I said, these things didn't help him right off the bat when he became the Hood. Everything he learned in the S1-3 and S5 flashbacks seems to be leading up to who he was as the Hood. Whereas what he learned in S4 flashbacks seems to be something that would apply to him as the Arrow or even Green Arrow, but definitely not as the Hood.

Has anyone seen the video of the Collider TV Talk people interviewing Marc Guggenheim. Not entirely Arrow related, but there's quite a few nuggets, including some allusions to some stuff in the future:

Does this mean they will finally address and take a stand on the whole lethal force being used by lawless vigilantes and their flaky rules about kill/no kill?? I surely hope so, not a big deal but certainly something I need to constantly remind myself to overlook when it comes to the show's internal logic.

On the other hand, this season keep being quite enjoyable and I really liked the interactions and dynamics in the last episode. I like how Dinah doesn't put up with Oliver's brooding and the way they interact, I think they're building to classic Green Arrow/Black Canary dynamics where her not buying his brooding actually allows him to relax a little; with all the Laurel drama we've had through the seasons, I think it's best to move on and look to the future.

I think they moved awfully quickly from Dinah being a bloodthirsty revenge queen to telling Oliver to chill about his past.

I also think that Quentin needing "press conference lessons" seemed ridiculous. He's been at PCs in past eps more than once.

This season has more of a meandering feel than its predecessors.

This last episode was a lot better in character interactions/comedy than it's been in a long time... This show has been way better than 3/4 but it's still behind Flash in character concerning little moments and comedy between actors/characters.

I see it. I'm hoping it leads to a classic Green Arrow/Black Canary situation like we have in the comics now.

I'd be fine with that, though I will ruthlessly and mercilessly mock all the people who were complaining about it before it happened who are thus doing so. Especially if they continue to vigorously rewrite history.

She had the skills in the beginning (or at least a really good base to jump off of) but sadly the writers decided to ignore that.

Laurel had the attitude, we saw it pop up time from time and the skills werent bad but they could've totally improved on that between seasons. Have DD torture Q and LL, kill Q, Laurel goes off at the end of the season to find herself and she comes back the 2nd half of the season more badass then ever. Have Flashpoint turn her into a meta just like it did Caitlin.

So Willa's contract got reduced for some weird reason for Season 5. She is only contracted for 14 episodes.
“Everyone’s, like, ‘where’s Thea?’ Well, Willa’s [in] 14 out of 23 episodes this year. She’s not in all 23. That’s not her contract. So we’ve had to write around that,” Arrow Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim addressed during a Q&A at the CW headquarters in Burbank this morning. [Editor’s note: Marc didn’t clarify if the crossover episodes were part of that 14]

And they have an inkling of what they want to do with KC next
“We have an idea for how to see her again, but we haven’t made a deal with her yet,” he revealed. “She’s not a series regular anymore, so we have to make a contract with her and she’s got to be available, and we haven’t had those conversations [yet]. But we do have an idea. We know exactly what we do want to do,” he said.

Most likely having her appear in the finale as a flashback to wrap up the 5 year flashback.

Just got back from WalMart.....they have season four ARROW DVDs on sale for $14.96.

That is fantastic news. But I prefer to pretend season three and four never happened.

That's a good deal. I just bought Arrow, The Flash, DC's LoT and Supergirl on Blu ray for 17.99 each at Best Buy recently.
