He talks like he's never even SEEN the show (or at least anything other than brief clips), which is odd. You'd think a guy with his history with the character would've at least done so out of curiosity. I think there's more going on there than he's willing to say out loud for whatever reason. I wonder if he made a critical comment about the show early on or something (since there was controversy over Oliver being Batman-ized in that first season) that ruffled someone's feathers.

Oh well, he did a fantastic job on Supergirl last week. He's a great fit for that and The Flash, imo.

He has beef with MG and his wife. I think MGs wife may have worked with Kevin once and it didnt go over so well.

And for anyone interested in the beef, from Kevin himself 4 years ago
Jay is watching and current. He totally digs it. I also had BRAVE & BOLD legend Denny O'Neil on FAT MAN ON BATMAN recently and he also gave the show props.

But I don't think I'd be welcome in the world of ARROW. Someone Tweeted one of the producers of the show in Season 1 asking if I'd ever be involved in ARROW. Since @ThatKevinSmith was included in the question, I saw the very direct, no-bull**** response of "No." Could be because they think I suck (which lots of folks do). Could be more personal than that...

One of the producers of ARROW is married to one of the creators of REAPER. I directed the pilot for REAPER year ago, and while it went well enough to get picked up, the creators of the show didn't want me back for the series. At all. They did NOT like me, it turned out - even though they were always nice to my face. I was never told why they didn't like me, but years later I learned it was because I kept adding lines to the pilot script.

Now this whole situation bummed me out to no end because I was a huge REAPER-booster. After ducking the DGA for years, I finally joined JUST so I could direct REAPER. I offered to direct every episode if it went to series. I even turned my annual San Diego Comic Con panel in Hall H into an all-REAPER panel that year, putting the REAPER creators front and center. But apparently, it was adding lines to try to make a funnier show that ****ed me. So when REAPER went to series, the closest I was allowed to the show I helped create and get picked up was a "consulting" credit (and the checks that came with it, to be fair). It was all so weird and high school.

The P.S. to that story? The creators fought for and chose an actress for the lead in the pilot that the network then wanted to swap out for Missy Peregrym. So rather than re-shoot the whole pilot, the network wanted to re-shot only the scenes featuring Missy's character. And since I was a DGA member, the production had to offer me the re-shoots first - while they were in pre-production on Episode 2.

This was akin to going to see your girlfriend with another guy, but rather than be a little dick about it, I went up and re-shot the scenes. It was mostly to say g'bye to the cast - the majority of whom had taken the job because of me, they'd said. During the shoot, we'd all talk about how much fun it was gonna be when if went to series. So now that the parade was moving on without me, I at least wanted the cast to know that it wasn't my (or even the network's) decision.

I remember asking Tyler if he'd be free later that year to shoot on ZACK & MIRI MAKE A PORNO just as I saw the creators for the first time since San Diego CC. And instead of asking them why I wasn't invited back to the party, I gave them nothing but super-pleasant. I haven't seen either of them since.

It was just another typical Hollywood lesson: people can smile to your face while using you and your connections for all your worth. Then, when you no longer suit their agenda, f you, Fatty! Hit the bricks! It's my fault for assuming we were all in it together. I suffer from true-believerism: I honestly think that people are fundamentally honest and honorable. And every once in awhile, you run into some cats who are climbers and users, who'll say anything to your face to get what they want, then abandon you the moment they're in charge. I invested heavily in two people because I was happy they were getting their big break - particularly with a genre show. I thought we were a team, but I was just a means to an end. Not even my impression: I've not had it confirmed.

So no ARROW for me, it would seem. It's cool: when people don't invite you to their parties, it eventually forces you to start throwing parties of your own.

From a Reddit AMA.

He was miffed when it may have been Guggenheim who shot down the idea of Smith directing an episode of Arrow early on. He has a connection from the comics with Arrow so getting him involved early on was a no brainer imo but there’s clearly some personal beef as to why he hasn’t.

Edit: didn’t realise you’d posted directly that above lol but yeah that’s it.

So Batwoman is probably ep 2. That's a whole lot for the first ep.

It’s been confirmed that she’s in episode 2 only. Lois is in eps 1 & 3 and Superman/Clark is in all 3 episodes. I get the feeling Jon Wesley Shipp may only be in the final episode.

I was hoping Batwoman would be in a little more than that, but you can't have everything!

It seems like Ep2 is very focused on her so I think she’ll get plenty to do.

That's a good thing, especially with them wanting to kick off a series for her.

I hope they dont call him Connor Hawke because that was the dumbest thing they did in that episode.

...But his name is Connor Hawke?

No it's not. His name John Diggle Jr./JJ. He only went by Connor Hawke because he was ashamed that he couldn't live up to Diggles legacy so he created an alias out of shame.

The character is Connor Hawke though, and is, as such, the name he's known by. Why change that?

A. The original timeline was erased in LoT.
B. It's stupid imo as to why he changed his name just so they could have their cake and eat it to.

They should've just had Diggle name him Connor after flashpoint happened.

Then he'd just be Connor Diggle?

The show has changed character names before to serve a purpose (Dinah for starters). I'm perfectly find with Connor being Connor Hawke instead of Connor Diggle. Heck, maybe Hawke could be his hooded alias, whereas his actual name is Connor Diggle?

He's already born and has a given name. Dinah was an undercover cop, JJ is just being emo in the future

He did say he saw at least a couple episodes of Arrow. Yes, there was a beef over Reaper. Really, I'd take Kevin's side over Guggenheim. Just kind of hope Kevin gets to direct Green Arrow in one of the others crossover episodes.

I think I’m in the minority that actually likes the flash forwards. Does anybody else like them?

They're intriguing.... the only issue i have is how they connect to the present.

The Flash forwards have been boring and they often ruin the pacing of the episodes.

So pretty much the same complaints about the flashbacks lol.

Unless they can somehow have them effect the modern parts of the eps then I don't see what worth they have in the current story line. I think it would be cool if they could have a time-travel aspect to them, that somehow what they find out in the flash-forwards can be sent back to the present in order to change the future.

But otherwise, they are just giving us teases to a side story, unlike the flashbacks, which teased events and actually added to the main plot. Those actually served a purpose.

Well episode 16 is an all flash forward episode so I think that’s when we’ll see how they connect to the present.
