Arrow Arrow General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 28

Good news... Stephen Amell has confirmed on his recent FB live video that he’s not planning on leaving Arrow. He has reached a new agreement with WB and the CW to return as Oliver Queen if the show gets renewed for another season. This pretty much confirms that there will be a season 8 for Arrow and that Amell is happy with the direction the show is going for Season 7.

ARROW
What excites new showrunner Beth Schwartz most about having Oliver behind bars, shoulder-to-shoulder with many of the baddies he bested in the past, is “they’re all on the same playing field.” But wanting to be a model inmate and not make waves, Oliver will need to “make different moral choices because of the position he’s in.” Of course, since Oliver is the one who brokered the deal that traded his freedom for the feds’ help against Diaz — keeping wife Felicity in the dark — “He’s going to learn that might not have been the best idea!” says Schwartz. On the villain front, Diaz will resurface as “more of the Dragon” comic book character he’s based on, while the Longbow Hunters — an almost mythical band of assassins — will prove they are “in fact quite real.” As for Colton Haynes’ return as a series regular, Schwartz will only affirm that he is “definitely” playing the Earth-One Roy Harper that we know and Thea loves (loved?).

BONUS SPOILER!: Know how we previously reported that Felicity is coping the worst in the wake of Oliver’s imprisonment? Well, guess who is faring the best? “I would say Laurel,” Schwartz shares, confirming that the team’s Earth-Two frenemy is now Star City’s DA.

RETURN DATE: Monday, Oct. 15 at 8/7c (The CW)

As I said in the JL lounge I wonder if they're pulling a role reversal and Nora Fries becomes Mrs Freeze with Victor Fries the one comatose. If that's the case this could mean either Batman doesn't exist in Batwoman's world or she will be like Supergirl and certain villains/storylines will be transferred to Batwoman.

If they really are just gonna make Batwoman a gender-swapped Batman, and change his traditionally male villains to female, then I think they're missing the boat entirely about female heroes - they are more than gender-swapped male heroes and do in fact have their own identities. When Supergirl first started on CBS, it was obvious they were just interested in making a female Superman show. Which is why they changed her origin to where she ~somewhat~ grew up on Earth, gave her the dorky "Clark Kent" persona and all that. But thankfully, it took them a while, but they eventually figured out that they needed to embrace what makes Kara KARA instead (her attachment to her Kryptonian heritage, her trauma of watching her entire world explode, abandonment issues, refugee issues, etc), and the show is much better for it, imo. I'd hoped Berlanti & Co. had learned from that, but maybe not.

I agree but could they just be taking a few inspirations to bump up the rogues gallery?

True, it's a bit early to be jumping to conclusions. Suffice it to say I really hope that's all they're doing, lol.

With Nora Fries being here, going off of that photo that Amell posted, combined with his mouth being covered and the bald cap, it almost makes me wonder if he was playing some version of Victor Fries, even though that's not the case and since Mr. Freeze is still a current face on Gotham.

It's interesting how these Arrowverse shows and Gotham alternate on villain usage. Like by the time we got Solomon Grundy and Ra's on Gotham, they'd already been used on Arrow.

It wouldn't surprise me if Victor Fries doesn't become Mr Freeze but is just a scientist and nothing more because Gotham is using the Mr Freeze character. I would like to be proven wrong though.

I actually can't wait for season 7 and how everyone knowing Oliver is the GA will change the whole dynamic of the show. It makes me wonder how the people of Star City will view Oliver since he exposed himself.

Considering the crossover is on a new Earth, maybe Ollie will vacate to a different Earth (as the Green Arrow) where nobody will know him?

I hope they don't do that and that Oliver actually faces the consequences of his actions... also it makes for better drama.

I doubt this'll be the case, don't worry, though the issue we have is that if Ollie is now running around as the Green Arrow stopping crime, every villain (and citizen alike) knows who he is, so why bother with the hood at all? Why not just go street style and fight with some form of combat gear? There's literally no purpose to having a hood.

You can argue the likes of Barry (in the future his identity is known - at least in the comics); perhaps his suit somehow helps him contain his speed or something, but (as far as I know) there's no hero that's known to the public and has the need to cover up at the same time. Could be wrong (my comic book knowledge isn't all that) but there'd be no point him having a hood, or even a costume if he's known to the world.

I guess the hood will be treated as some sort of symbolism.

what's the budget on all of these CW shows? I imagine a show like Arrow must have high cast salaries due to being on air for 6 years while The Flash is heavy special effects.
