Who cares about the ethnicity of the characters. This is a fictional show about fictional characters in a fictional city.

This is the CW so of most of the cast is very good looking people. If you want a show about gritty inner city real life crime you won't find it on arrow.

I think, both what you just said and the previous poster complaining about the thugs not being non-white have said some borderline racist ish right here.

His was a longing for showing "reality" that "most" criminals aren't white... to which I would say, most street crime is committed by poor people and there are specific social justice issues that have placed non-white people in the unfortunate and unjust position of being generally more impoverished.

You have practically said non-white people aren't "good looking." Which is problematic in a whole 'nother way.

I think you misinterpreted what I wrote

I'm not sure where you got the idea from what I posted that non-white people aren't "good looking" which is pretty funny because I'm black :oldrazz:

What I meant is that this show isn't realistic so should not represent real life which is proven partly by the fact the show and many other CW shows have super attractive actors (which includes non-caucasians) in most roles.

I agree with you about the previous posters comments sounding borderline racist though.

yeah i am sure there has never been good looking poor people like ever....

there are plenty of ugly rich people

I'm always leery when people start complaining about 'political correctness'. I don't think the complaint holds much water generally and in this case either.

The CW has long has a melanin deficit throughout most of its programming so it stands to reason that that would be the same here. Though I credit Arrow for bucking that trend to some extent, with people of color in prominent and supporting roles.

I don't care for the assumption that inner city crime will necessarily be committed by blacks and Latinos. There are urban whites who commit crime, check movies like The Departed and The Town. I think the image of crime and poverty in this country has been so skewered over the decades that it leads to unfortunate assumptions.

Bingo.

From what we've seen of the Glades, it looks like it's probably a largely poor and working class white neighborhood and as such... most of the street crime would be committed by poor and working class white youth. Being as they use panning shots of downtown Philadelphia, the Glades reminds me to some extent of parts of Kensington and Fishtown. I've met and known plenty of thugs from that part of town.

Between Diggle and Walter, the show has two prominent (Well, Walter was prominent and could be prominent again), well-written black characters in it's cast. Plus with Yao Fei, Shado, McKenna, and Dig's Sister-In-Law providing positive minority supporting characters, people start complaining that the thugs aren't black enough?

I'm pretty sure I voiced similar concerns elsewhere. They really need some inspiration with her character.

Cue: Enter Ted "Wildcat" Grant?

No enter a Recast thats the inspiration the writers need. A good and strong actress to inspire the writers do give the character Dinah/Laurel more to do.

Why does it feel like Dinah is the least developed character this season? I wouldnt really even miss her if she got bumped down to guest character next season since thus far she is the weakest link.

Because the actress Katie Cassidy sucks, and she has sucked the life out of the writers and the character, with her terrible acting and chemistry. :cmad:. Her character has become an unofficial recurring guest star, coz of of the her.

They should do a real representation of the ethnicitys of people who commit inner city crime. Inner city crime is not commited by white male fitness models. if the show was based out of small town or suburban setting it would make since.

White people commit crimes too, all ethnicities do. Thea was attacked by some other POCs in the gang , so dont know what u are on about.

Digg isn't white is he? As a straight male, I'd say he's probably the most attractive guy on the show! Walter is one of the richest, most high profile characters too.

I don't think race is really an issue in Arrow/Starling City because they haven't mentioned it yet. You are just to assume it's the same split as any other major American city I guess.

We saw an african American speaker at the important awards ceremony for Mr. Merlyn, a very rich successful Asian man and we've also seen black thugs and Chinese criminals. Just like in real life on all counts. Same with the white guys, rich ones, poor ones and criminal ones. Starling City is reflective of modern society as far as I can tell, I never even thought about it until now.

The writers are completely PC focused. They intend for a gay character to join the Arrowcave, and have just put a female character there to join the non-white member so I doubt they'd go out of their way to make a race look bad or anything.

Ryder, just give it up.

I've watched this series for a few episodes, but I lost interest along the way.

I suggest giving it another try. The series does get better and better as it progresses, trust me.

That was just a spambot putting hidden spam messages in their post......

Nice finds Riot

http://gladesbetrayed.com/ not much there but it's cool they do things like this. Hopefully they'll do something big online before the finale or second season launch, i love stuff like that.

Argus looks interesting too, although I don't have a clue what they are :)

Kudos to the WB marketing dept. for that viral site tying in with tonight's episode!

Thanks Justin!

We saw this week's new episode of Arrow – plus more things to come!

This weekend at Wondercon, we got to see the next episode of the superhero show Arrow, in which everything changes for one character. And we also saw a sizzle reel of scenes from some other upcoming episodes. Not only that, but the cast and producer Marc Guggenheim hinted that we'll be seeing a lot of a character you probably never expected to see again. Spoilers ahead...

We won't tell you much about this week's new episode, except that Oliver is put in one of the hairiest situations he's faced thus far, and he gets some badass moments. Diggle gets to be a major hero, and one of the supporting cast makes a major life-changing decision that we're all going to regret. It's a fun episode that packs some pretty fun twists and revelations.

Meanwhile, the sizzle reel we saw included a lot more badass moments of Ollie ass-kickery, Oliver kissing Yao Fei's daughter Shado, and Oliver obsessing about the Undertaking and the Dark Archer. "Not everybody deserves mercy," says Oliver. Also, someone asks a suited-up Oliver "What happened to you on that island?" To which he responds, "You're about to find out," before unleashing some whup-ass.

And Tommy tells Ollie that if Laurel knew who Ollie really was, "she would choose you."

But also, there was our first glimpse of the big "flashback" episode 21, in which we see Robert Queen before his tragic boating trip -- and Malcolm Merlyn is talking to him about the rising crime rate in the Glades and the need to do something to stop the cancer spreading. Robert Queen is not convinced that they need to go as far as Malcolm wants to -- but Malcolm will not be swayed.

In the show's panel, Willa TK expressed her hope that Oliver's kid sister Thea finally gets to pick up a bow and arrow and kick some butt, to which producer Marc Guggenheim responded that she'd like one scene Thea gets in the season finale. Also, Tommy Merlyn gets a cool moment with a gun in the season finale.

Added Guggenheim, episode 22 is a huge episode that would serve as a season finale for almost any show -- but then episode 23 is "our season finale."

According to Guggenheim, there's a lot of stuff between Oliver and his late father, which we find out about towards the end of the season -- and it casts a huge shadow over the final three episodes of the year. Meanwhile, Tommy is going to get a lot closer to his father, and this creates a bigger rift between Tommy and Oliver. "All fo these things are grist for the mill," said Guggenheim.

He added that they had a five-year plan for the flashbacks to Oliver's time on the island -- but they're burning through story much faster than they expected. They never expected to introduce Shado in season one, although they always intended to have her show up eventually, hence the tattoo on Oliver's shoulder in the pilot which is connected to hers.

Stay tuned for more Arrow revelations -- we did some interviews connected to Arrow today, and we'll be posting those in a few days.

Katie just cant get a break. Finally on a hit show and is the most boring character on the show.

The sizzle reel shows some good stuff coming up, Roy is on his way to sidekickville which I know will please many here. I'm looking forward to seeing the scenes with Shado teaching Ollie to become an archer and Digg vs Deadshot.

Who was the guy Ollie was fighting in his home?
