What makes you think that it would? Who does that in film outside of things that are their 'baby' crelatively, pretty much from story idea conception? Jackson and Hobbit are a different kind of thing.i think it will always be an option in the minds of WB. Nolans? Who knows. Nobody can say "oh i doubt he'll be in that state of mind come 20 years.." Twenty years is a hell of a long time. And we don't know if the Batman franchise will go down the tubes in a decade or two down the road. What if a director screws it up again and people just aren't happy with the direction they've taken? I'm sure the first few movies of the reboot will do just fine, but 10 years after that? Many things can happen.
And you never know, the next filmmaker and version could end up being even better, and people will want that to do a 'Beyond' or something, and so on. Basically, it may be a pleasant surprise or what have you if chosen, but don't put it out there like a privilege or something that'd be a disappointment if not done.
Nolan can do what he wants after this (he can now, for that matter). He's absolutely proud of what he's done with the character, but he's not fanatic about it like people here are. Years fro now, he;'ll have spent more time directing non-batman films than Batman films. I think he's had his turn on the Batman world and is basically (and respectfully) washing his hands of it creatively as a filmmaker. It needs him more than he needs it.Don't get me wrong, i agree that leaving it with The Dark Knight Rises as the final movie in this continuity is an amazing way to go out. I'm usually the one who is completely behind this trilogy existing by itself with nobody adding onto it. But for fun, im just thinking of ways it CAN be done.
There is 8 years of a gap between the last 2 movies. Im sure they wont mess with it, i dont want them to, but you know its going through some of their minds over at WB. There's also the huge possibility that Bruce survives this flick and lives the rest of his life happy. A 'Beyond' or 'Returns' has to be going through their minds too.
