Battlefield 3 - Part 1

Maybe they are trying to rush the game out to snatch maximum sales. Something like two weeks before Call of Duty isn't it?
Can't say i'v had much problems with Frostbite, loads up in about 5 seconds and runs 50-60fps, prefer it over the unreal engine for fps.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that EA rushed this game out the door to get it in front of MW3.

I still think this game will be great, but I don't think I'm gonna pick it up day-one anymore. I want to read some reviews first to decide whether or not I wanna wait for a price drop.

Why's everyone leaving the BF3 hype train again?

Because the idiots on consoles are just now realizing the game doesn't look like it does on PC. They also think the beta means demo. Obviously there's some bugs in the beta, as there should be.

I read on Joystiq that they think the Beta was a complete failure in several aspects, most importantly: not being even a remotely accurate representation of the game we will be playing in a few days. They say a lot of things will change making the feel and handling drastically different in concern with combat. And I think they are chiming in on the rumors about the Beta not being an older build, and that DICE/EA are lying about all that as the Beta was released so close to final release. Also the fact that pc beta testers don't require certification like consolers, and yet they have the same bug/glitches. So, EA's excuses of why consolers are getting this older build with bugs and glitches is because of certification is bogus.

Yeah, I read that. I thought it was a really good article.

And yeah, it sounds like releasing this Beta was a mistake. I think there was a laundry list of differences that was listed by the writer between what it is now, and what most people are playing now. Not even glitches, per se. But differences in handling, and approaches and style of play that are being cutdown in the current Beta.

And hearing on the Giant Bombcast last week, that the game hadn't gone gold yet...sounded like something to worry about. I'm not sure what's the "good" time to go gold in relation to release date, though.

I dunno. I'm still hoping BF3 will turn out good. And it sounds like the multiplayer will be great, despite what people are saying about the Beta.

Not leaving the hype train, just waiting for the reviews. Like I said, I still think it'll be great. But, it's a busy ass season for games, and it might end up being a good idea to wait and see if there's any big glitches that need ironing out first. Might change my mind though, we'll see.

Can't wait to try this out:

Damavand Peak:
Damavand Peak, internally known as Base Jump, is built on the idea that we want players to be able to base jump, and features our most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent. The further the attackers progress in the map, the more vehicle warfare will be present. There is also a large tunnel section dug into the mountain side at the bottom of the map, and the view when you look up at the starting location is spectacular.

I half expected fan rage, I'm a big BF fan myself, but most people agree that the Beta was a mistake, and that going gold this late is a major concern. Sounds like they needed at least another month, from the closing of the Beta, to make this all sound plausible. Gotta remember though that consolers (myself included) are not used to being a part of Alpha or Beta stages of development and will confuse it with a demo. Bad on us, and bad on EA/Dice.

And you're judging this of what? The beta? The beta that was up to a month old when it was released? Yeeea.:o

While it is true it's a beta, alot of the stuff in the gaming industry is bleed you dry PR bullcrap.
EA also use this first access, buy Medal Of Honor crap as incentive to get people to buy it which makes it appear less as a testing product and more as an early demo.

I have a bad feeling about this..

If Star Wars has given us anything, its the phrase I am using for title of this post. Nothing sums up my geek worry better than 'I have a bad feeling about this' in the voice of Obi Wan. So anyway, I have a bad feeling about Battlefield 3.

This morning, I got sent a link to this article. by one of my Twitter followers (Thanks Mac11m)
The article states that EA Norway sent out a form for the media to fill in before they got BF3. Mac11m also wrote a follow up for Gamers-Daily.com. Read it here.

The gist is that EA have decided to only send pre-launch review code to a very, very small section of the media in each territory. I have been informed by a trusted source that only a few outlets in the US will get the game this week & I myself have been told that I will not get a review copy till 'early next week'. Given that the game launches at midnight Monday night here, that makes it impossible for me or ANY journalist not on the 'special' list to be able to formulate decent opinions on the title before it hits the hard drives of consumers.

Now some of you might say that I am just throwing a hissy fit because I have to wait for my review code, well that is definitely not the case. Not getting the game till launch day does not impact me much as my next NBC segment is not till the 30th, giving me enough time to evaluate the title. In the grand scheme of things I am small potatoes, but there are dozens of journalists and outlets out there who people depend on for games buying advice, and those folks are getting hosed.

If a journalist gets the game on Monday, he/she has to play through SP and put some serious time into MP before they can write a review that's any use before BF3 goes on sale at midnight. If they get the game at 9.am Monday (which never happens), 6-8 hours are taken on SP (at least) then another 6-8 hours on exploring every aspect of MP (which for a game like this is vital) Then spend a few hours writing the review etc and suddenly you are posting in the wee small hours of Tues morning while the most hardcore fans are already playing the game! That's the BEST CASE scenario by the way. Worst case? Reviews hitting 3 or 4 days post launch when a lot of people have spent their hard earned cash.

For this to happen with such a huge release stinks like a 3 week old dead tuna. Add to that the outcry over the much maligned 'beta' that came out a few weeks ago and the only conclusion I can come to is that the game is poor. I have spoken to a few people that I trust in the industry and the general buzz on the game revolves around two words.... 'buggy' and 'bad'.

If this is the case, then I for one am gutted. Battlefield 3 was my great hope to end the domination of Call of Duty and bring a smarter, more varied experience to the military shooter genre. If the game is a turkey, then EA knew there were issues months ago and should have pushed the game to next spring, but instead they were too busy getting mouthy with Activision.

I really hope I am wrong about this, but my PR experience is kicking in like a spidey sense and just won't quit. I so want this game to be brilliant, if I am wrong then I will dance a happy jig and praise it to the world.

If I am right, then it could well be that EA's ego and desire to smack talk Activison may have just killed one of the best gaming franchises out there.

The game industry's review politics are so weird, companies vs. the media always seems like one big hot mess. It is weird that EA wouldn't want every outlet to review the game ASAP, though, and generally not the greatest sign.

We'll find out in a week.

Based on the Beta, the game had everything i wanted BC2 to have(albeit minus the bugs). Its also highly likely there will be a day one patch that squashes a lot of the bugs that people saw in the beta.

Besides the map, the only thing i didn't like about the beta was the fact it wasn't the hardcore mode.

Yeah, I don't really know what could be "bad" about it that we wouldn't already be aware of from the beta. I think that other than the bugs/glitches, it's pretty safe to say we have a solid feel on how the game is going to play.

Well, EA Norway is sending it out to everyone on their usual list.

Check out the qeastions they ask, reviewing the reviewer.

Those who play ball probably get fiest access. Gaming industry is a joke imo. Always disregard first reviews.

I wouldn't want someone who is CoD crazy reviewing BF3 either. Most of the people who dont like BF can be seen playing cod. That is not a coincidence.
