I think it's also a lot to ask of one guy to helm a film like BATMAN and star at the same time. These are huge undertakings. Just directing would be enough to almost kill a lesser man. Starring in one and directing? Seems like we fans are asking too much. Batman may not have any limits but flesh and blood Ben Afleck probably does.

Well Argo had about 150 speaking parts and Ben managed to direct all that brilliantly while also acting in it, so I think he has the full ability to pull that off. In an interview, he actually admitted that he does most of his work as a director before he starts shooting, he's really into the research and preparation process and provides the actors with as much material as possible so that he won't have to give too much direction while filming and treat them more as fellow actors, to also make them feel more relaxed. He does a lot of takes, almost Fincher-level, especially of himself if he is in the lead, so he really makes most of the decisions in the editing room. So I don't think that the fact that it is a superhero movie would make it more energy consuming for him than the movies he's already directed but it would certainly take more time and in that same time he could probably direct 2 movies of the magnitude of The Town or act in other movies. He also has admitted that one of his shortcomings (or strengths, depends how you see it) as a director is that he favors script and acting over style and aesthetic, that's why his movies often give a 70s vibe, and that goes a bit against the general rule of making superhero movies I think, but maybe that's just me. On the flip side, as it has been said, he's really great at maintaining tension throughout the movie, which would be perfect for a Batman solo. However, his recent quotes make him sound like he would really like to direct a Batman movie in the future though, but feels a bit insecure or in a dilemma, or maybe just doesn't want to openly express his desire out of respect for Snyder. Who knows? Either way, I would be all for it. I really love Ben as a director. Well, I love Ben period, but especially him as a director.:oldrazz:

What's "respect for Snyder" got yo do with anything. Snyder hasn't talked about directing the Bat solo or anything like that. We mostly expect him to do JL 1 and 2 and then give us an MOS2/Supes solo.

A David Fincher Batman movie is too good to happen

It would be quite the challenge for Ben to direct his own solo. But even while knowing there are other directors out there that I'd like to see tackle the Batman, I would not be disappointed if Ben got the gig but it's a lot. Haha.

My feeling has always been that Ben directing Batman would be a massive challenge because he would be starring in the film as well. Argo and The Town ain't Batman.

you got that right.

No one knows what its like to be (and simultaneously direct) the Batman.

I'd prefer a 90's Fincher Batmovie to one from modern Fincher.
This. I find he's been playing it a bit safe these days. I liked Gone Girl but didn't love it. Wasn't big on the beginning or end. The remakes are a bit lazy (Dragon Tattoo was average and now he's doing a Hitchcock). Old Fincher would have been a dream come true, but i just don't care anymore. Now, i'd rather see Denis Villeneuve direct Batman.

Damn these people. Why can't they leave them alone? And what's that on Affleck's arm? And I thought Affleck quit smoking.

My ONLY concern with Batfleck, Ayer, or even a David Fincher directing Batman, is the look of gotham. I feel like they will approach it more ''real world'' and after Nolan, I long for a more fantastical take on Gotham and Batman. Arkham games nail the look for me. Eh, Batfleck can still and hopefully surprise us.

Good point, I agree.

I am not fond of Gotham from "Arkham Knight" though.

Let's see how Snyder approaches it. The director of the solo Batfilm will likely have to keep the aesthetic consistent with Snyder's vision.

I think he could handle it, especially if it's more of an ensemble film (which I hope it is).

At the very least, I expect him to be a producer. If that ends up being the case, he'll probably handpick the director.

A Batman film like THE TOWN or GONE BABY? I would be down. I would like one by Fincher or Bigelow before that though. That's just me.

More GBG than TT. I like both, but I think the latter is Affleck's weakest film.

And if he's going to do Batman, I'd like to see Affleck adopt a more stylish aesthetic. His usual style would be too reminiscent of Nolan (IMO).

While on the subject of Fincher and directors and all that, here are some Fincher comments on Ben pertaining to his role in Gone Girl. Some comments don't look very good for him amid his divorce Haha. Still interesting though.

Arkham Gotham looks okay, but it's almost Schumacher levels of busy going on.

As long as they know how to shoot a real fight scene. That's all I ask for.

He seems to have a very likable dry humor. :funny:

I'm not sure that I've ever seen a Gotham that I thought was 100% perfect. It's always either too reminiscent of a real city (which is probably a weird thing to say) or too stylized for my tastes.

You need a combination of both. New York and Chicago both have modern looking buildings spliced with a lot of art deco and turn of the century gothic stuff mixed with a little futuristic neon ****. Hell, the building I work in has these 1930s Atlas Shrugged looking elevators and ****.

I was never partial to the idea that Gotham should have a futuristic neon ****. I always found it odd when people bring this up. This description reads more like city from "Bladerunner" to me.
